I'm not superstitious about it even with our troubles. I bought an awesome coach diaper bag a while ago that was so damn cheap i couldn't pass it up. It's in a closet but it doesn't bothor me. I guess you jus t yave to think about that. Will it hurt to know it's there if things don't go as planned? Or are you ok?
We've just had a lot of freak out GBGBCB's lately.
I know. Because even though I don't post much, and use my iPhone so don't have a picture, I came from TB pre meltdown and have been registered on this board longer than you have.
Some plans have been "grandfathered in" where they don't have to cover anything. I actually have in writing from my insurance company that they will not cover or reimburse for a pump.
Messed UP.
Yea it pissed me off. Went into the conversation ready to quote the law and all that and they shut me down. Still made them put it in writing because I couldn't believe it.
My insurance is thru Blue Cross Blue Shield and they won't cover any breast pump. They suck.
That's because you have a grandfathered plan.
All plans are required to cover them unless they are grandfathered (and many grandfathered ones still do).
Yep. My company has been under contract with BCBS for forever. So even though I've only been with them and on the plan since 2013, I'm not covered. Still ticks me off but it is what it is.
I guess I just really don't know that much about Canada. But don't you get a years maternity leave too? I wouldn't have ever needed a pump if I didn't work.
I could see it being useful even as a SAHM mom for the first year. If you want to go out for an evening or go away for the weekend you could pump. Or if your supply is higher than the baby's need you could pump and freeze.
I wouldn't do it. I'm a bargain shopper too and have a hard time passing up good deals, but I refuse to buy any big expensive items like that until I'm actually pregnant.
I do have a handful of baby clothes and maternity clothes that I've gotten on clearance for like 80% off, but I have no problem giving those to a friend or sister if things don't go as planned...

Or hell just sleeping thru a whole night and letting DH feed the kid. You need a supply of breast milk in your freezer for this.

I'm sorry, but what the hell does that have to do with anything? Are we competing at being GBCB hipsters now? Really?

It doesn't matter when individuals are added, it matters when the plan was put in place by your employer. That would be a paperwork nightmare if they had to base things on when each individual employee was added.

I've been trying over a year with two losses and I have two totes of baby stuff.. It's all gifts. When a friend is pregnant I pull stuff from the totes that I think they'd like.. It only bothered me in the very beginning of my loss. I think that because I don't label the stuff as for MY baby, it doesn't bother me but I also didn't pay for it either.... I think it just depends on how you process things.

I read that (bolded) in a "I know you are but what am I?" tone. Not getting the point, we all came here around the same time for the most part. And that's not exactly a direct indication of worth or status

Not to mention bullshit. Sister's been on GBCB two days longer than Erin.

Yea that's what I was implying in my post. That the company has had it's contract for years so it is grandfathered in and my start time is irrelevant. I guess I was just stating the obvious to you.
Is this the one area that the US beats Canada? Insurance doesn't cover a pump?
Ya this. Isn't there a new federal mandate regarding breast feeding supplies and support coverage? Everyone I've known who has recently been pregnant had a pump paid for by insurance.
Agencies with a religious affliations are still exempt. I found out recently that there have quite a few non-profit agencies that have been caught trying to use this exemption to cut down on health care costs.

Well, now I can't remember any of Erin's other screen names all of the sudden. If it's Erin, then she means on TTGP longer than me. But I don't even claim to know all the Erin drama.

Also, not all babies figure out how to latch right away. Even the lactation consultants that came by multiple times a day couldn't get DS to latch.

I bought maternity jeans at 6 weeks pregnant and then miscarried. I all but threw them away because the thought of them hurts and reminds me of my mc. I wouldn't buy anything at this point except the thermometer and OPK's and a box of wine in case AF shows again.
I would not buy one until I was at least pregnant. It can take a while to get pregnant and you never know which you will want by then.
I am in Canada too and they do go on sale from time to time. (almost certainly would over the 9 months you would be pregnant) I was watching for the best price and I have seen them go on sale at a few places from 15%-25% off. (a few times at Babies R Us) They are really expensive here, I know the Medela Freestyle is $450 plus tax.
They aren't covered by our health care but some people have them covered by a plan at work. My cousin's employer covered hers.

Or ever. I threw in the towel while I was still at home because BFing was going so horribly.

Don't do it; there are too many variables that make it not worth the potential savings. Don't buy anything for a potential baby before you're pregnant that you can't/won't be willing to throw out or return if things don't go according to plan. Instead use this opportunity to stock up on things you can only buy at Target before it leaves us forever, like Beaver Canoe sweatpants and Threshold furniture. Damn I am going to miss Target.

Interrupting the OP's question to suggest we take a moment of silence to mourn the loss of Target for our beautiful Canadian friends. I can't imagine life without Target.
Target in Canada is closing and liquidation prices are starting. A number of expensive items are getting some decent discounts. Today I was shopping with a friend who knows I'm TTC. She has a 6 month old, so we were in the baby section. We walked past the breast pumps which were 20% off. And she said pointed out that they rarely if ever go on sale. I didn't buy one, but the thought is definitely on my mind. My thoughts are if I save a bunch of money and get pregnant without too much difficulty I'll be very happy to have the extra money. I'd be saving close to $100. Possibly more when liquidation prices get better. Alternatively if I don't get pregnant easily I know I'll be annoyed by the breast pump hanging around my house I don't need. Thoughts? Opinions? Superstitions about buying baby stuff pre pregnancy? TIA
No.
PS: Are you going to GBGBCB over this? Just let us know in advance. I just see the generic avi now and think it's inevitable.
I wouldn't buy it. There's a onesie in my closet that I will randomly think about and it makes me angry.
This. I wouldn't buy either. I bought 2 onesies to announce to DH with and they've been hiding in a gift box in my closet, behind my wedding dress for over almost 3 years. I bought them with unicorns and rainbows in my heart and now I think about them sitting unused, the box collecting dust.
Those were just cheap onesies. I wouldn't go buying big stuff at all, ever, until I got ktfu.
