Target in Canada is closing and liquidation prices are starting. A number of expensive items are getting some decent discounts. Today I was shopping with a friend who knows I'm TTC. She has a 6 month old, so we were in the baby section. We walked past the breast pumps which were 20% off. And she said pointed out that they rarely if ever go on sale. I didn't buy one, but the thought is definitely on my mind. My thoughts are if I save a bunch of money and get pregnant without too much difficulty I'll be very happy to have the extra money. I'd be saving close to $100. Possibly more when liquidation prices get better. Alternatively if I don't get pregnant easily I know I'll be annoyed by the breast pump hanging around my house I don't need. Thoughts? Opinions? Superstitions about buying baby stuff pre pregnancy? TIA

No.
PS: Are you going to GBGBCB over this? Just let us know in advance. I just see the generic avi now and think it's inevitable.

Like wicked said, you never know how long you're going to have to wait or if you're going to have a reminder of losses with baby stuff. Consider how you will feel if you see these things if it takes you a year, two years, five years, or maybe even NEVER getting pregnant. How would those things make you feel if you do get pregnant, but lose the baby? What if that happens several times?
I don't want to scare you or play with your head -- TTC is a mindfuck on its own -- but they're things to think about. If you can handle having them around and/or having to give them away, then do what you want. If you're the type of person that could be haunted by those things, I wouldn't risk it. Ultimately, it's your choice.
I guess I just really don't know that much about Canada. But don't you get a years maternity leave too? I wouldn't have ever needed a pump if I didn't work.
It took me over 2 years to get pregnant. I wouldn't have wanted baby stuff sitting around my house while dealing with IF. Hopefully it doesn't take you that long but I still wouldn't buy baby stuff before you're KU.
I wouldn't. It may take a long time. Plus 20% off is $100? They are $500?! Whoa. I anticipated renting through my insurance.
I assume they're less in the US, most things are. But yeah they're just over $400, and my insurance doesn't cover it.
My inclination is to not buy. I get anxious about the costs of some things. I make more money than MH, and I know not having my income will be a HUGE adjustment for us. Its good to get some reinforcements for the less crazy parts of me. Thanks ladies.
Is this the one area that the US beats Canada? Insurance doesn't cover a pump?
Ya this. Isn't there a new federal mandate regarding breast feeding supplies and support coverage? Everyone I've known who has recently been pregnant had a pump paid for by insurance.

I just had this conversation with DH, a coworker was giving away baby clothes and he was going to take him. I told him thank you but no thank you. We just don't know how long it'll take us so I suggest no. There will always be other good deals

I think maybe she was asking if it's not covered in Canada because it is in the US.

Some plans have been "grandfathered in" where they don't have to cover anything. I actually have in writing from my insurance company that they will not cover or reimburse for a pump.
