Yes! Go camping on Assateague. But, stay on the ocean side because the mosquitoes are evil by the bay. Also, don't go near the ponies. Those fuckers are evil.
I'm trying to visualize evil ponies...
Haha, I also just realized I described the mosquitoes as evil as well. But yeah, the ponies are just roaming around. They get into your coolers, walk into your tent. On a walk to the port a potty one night, I almost walked into one. They are mean! Signs everywhere say "the ponies do bite!" But, they are pretty to look at while you sit on the beach.

Now I totally want to take a family trip to see the evil ponies. When DD1 says she wants something she's totally not going to get (the new iphone, etc.) I always tell her "Yeah? Well I want a pony." So now it's a running family joke. A trip to the evil ponies would be perfect. And also terrifying.

There's plenty to do all over Colorado. I'd say the main thing would be to visit the mountains. Skiing, hiking, camping, or even just a day trip to walk around. Last year, H and I took the train up to summit of Pike's Peak and it was really pretty (at least before we got to the top since it was blizzarding up there lol) and really fun.
Beaches Liberty State Park Atlantic City (if you hurry before it goes bankrupt and becomes even more ghetto than it already is)
Honestly, I wouldn't come here unless it's a day trip attached to a NY or PA trip. Ha!
weeklyplanner pretty much summed up Jersey. In South Jersey we have some fun farms to go picking on in the summer, and we have a few good wineries. But if you want real fun just go to Philly.
CA is covered, but I feel it should be repeated that you should come to NorCal. We have redwoods, and wine, and beautiful drives along the coast, and lots of delicious food. And hippies. And better weather.
Everything PP said sbout Michigan is right on! I love it here, especially Lake MI. My top five places to visit in Mi: Ludington Traverse City(lots of wineries there!) Mackinac Island Petoskey South Haven

I'm in RI - most people love the beaches, or the newport cliff walks. I'm in the woods at the opposite side of the state.
This is a really good question though - I actually met a couple who traveled to a different state every year on their anniversary and they hope to visit all 50 states over 50 years
Do you think it's cheating if DH and I do this but immediately scratch off the states we've been to but probably didn't do anything fun in?
Hmmm... I live in Kansas City, Missouri. It depends on what you want to see. St. Louis of course had the arch among other things, and there are a lot of wineries just south of the STL metro. Kansas City has a lot of art and culture, BBQ, and jazz!
Missouri has wineries? Mind blown.
They are SO good too. Montelle and Sugar Creek are my two favorites.
Fort McHenry (Star Spangled Banner stuff) Deep Creek Lake (camping, hiking, canoeing, skiing) Assateague Island (wild ponies) Plus casinos, museums, gardens, etc.
When we drive through VA,the signs for Assateague and Manassas always make us laugh. Sorry I've got teenage boy humor.

There is also the town of Dumfries VA. Not quite on the level with Assateague and Manassas but still somewhat funny on a teen boy level.

I totally forgot about that book! It was a summer reading one year. Can't remember if it was any good 20 something years later!
Same here! I don't really remember the book much other than my crazy horse-loving kid self was hell bent on vacationing on a pony island. I worked and worked on my parents but it never happened.

How come there is a waste management facility right by I-95 minutes after entering the NJ from NY? Having the experience of entering your state and being immediately greeted with that stench multiple times has prompted me on more than one occasion to say things like "What smells like NJ in here?"

I'm in S.Jersey, which is a totally different state than N.Jersey. N. Jersey's stench is from Housewives, sewage treatment plants and industrial pollution. S. Jersey's stench is from in-breeding Piney's, cow manure and compost.

I'm at the beach. Nothing smells here. Well, except when it's low tide. Sometimes I can smell fishy salt water, but then I just close the windows!
Also, I've always thought it was so strange how such a small state like NJ has so many different regions. I've got family an hour away who are living in an urban ghetto (by the garbage scents!) and PP is talking about compost and farms.
