Started Wednesday with a fever... Seemed like a 24 hour flu bug... Except yesterday evening my hands started to hurt, now it's my feet too, and I can tell I have little welts on the sides of my fingers. I have questions... Any adults gone through this? Is it possible J could have had this and I didn't know? She did have a slight fever, crankiness, and didn't want to eat solid foods for a while last week, but I didn't notice any thing on her hands and feet... She did have an eczema flare up, though. How long does this usually last? How contagious? By which I mean how screwed is my poor DH? I'm feeling pretty down about this... It hurts, and I'm worried if J hasn't had it yet (I could have got it from work) that I will have made her sick, and I'm worried about going to work on Monday.
My understanding is that it's rare for adults to contract, but can happen. Definitely sanitize and increase hand washing to help YH avoid it. Do you have the blister/sores in your mouth?
I think a lot of our babies are cutting new teeth or generally feeling unwell. Did you notice a breakout on your DD at all? It might be coincidence, or at least I would hope. I have no personal experiences with HFM. I hope you feel better soon though.
I have a sore throat and trouble swallowing, but no sores around the mouth... Just on the hands and feet. I suppose what I'm calling an eczema flare up could have been it, the timing is right... But it doesn't look the same and hers was mostly on her legs.

My BFF got it from her daughter. It is rare for adults to get it, but it can happen. From what I gather, it is worse in adults than children. As in, adults have more discomfort. Sorry about that I believe you are considered no longer contagious when all the sores you have crust over. I would go to a dr though to be sure. So sorry!

That sort of fits with my theory that J may have had a mild case last week. I talked to my doctor, he confirmed my symptoms and says it's been going around right now. And yes... I'm clear once stuff starts scabbing (lovely!).
I am 99.9 % sure DH has it right now. He came home with fever/sore throat on Thursday and yesterday started complaining about his hands and feet. I made the connection, and talked to the pharmacist while we were out at the grocery store. She confirmed (and so did DH's PA cousin.) I know you can't do much, so we've just been treating with Tylenol. I am paranoid about B though. He hasn't been showing any symptoms but woke up this morning with a low grade fever. I gave him some Tylenol, but haven't called out ped yet bc the fever is only 99. Any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and call the nurses line anyway?! DNW B to have to deal with this, but I am fearful he may have already contracted it. budders, what helped V?
budders- Thanks for the info. I'm thinking this might be day one- as DH had his fever on Thursday, and I think I've read it takes a few days to incubate. Ugh. My biggest concern right now is that he hasn't had a wet diaper since 7pm last night. He's down for a nap right now, but if he hasn't wet again, I am definitely calling our ped because I'm worried he is dehydrated. He's been drinking/eating normally, but it's freaking me out. Ugh. This sucks.
madymoiselle, it's going to get worse before it gets better. S had a TON of blisters all the way up the leg and on her bottom. Lots of Tylenol/Motrin. ((((HUGS))))
madymoiselle, sorry to hear LO hasn't ever had it but DS had it once last year (so around 3 years old) and I never noticed a fever. He didn't even really have blisters, it was just like his hands were peeling and raw looking. What ultimately made me take him to the doctor was he started limping around. The doc told some viruses attack hip joints and that's what was happening to DS. He said this was the "tail end" of the virus and to just give him motrin for the hip pain. So basically DS had it and I didn't even know until it was almost over.
Just wanted to let you know my experience because hopefully your LO's will be quick and mild too!
