I still use my Brest friend every time at home. He does kick off of stuff, but like PPs said, I get a much better latch and position, and can sometimes even take my hand off his head (always have to have a hand on the boob though). I bring it in the car when we go out and use it if I nurse in the car, or at other peoples houses, but not in restaurants and stuff. Although I have done that. Haha.
Yes we will us our Brestfriend, teraiin. I can get a better latch and position with it still. I don't need it if we go out but I use it at home all the time.
+1. Also when we are out I can really only nurse on left be its a bit bigger and always fuller. He only nurses the right side with proper positioning with the pillow
DD is not nursing great during the day the last few days. She latches on then immediately pops off and looks around. Nights are normal. Is this a normal, developmental thing? What do you do? DH gave her a bottle yesterday but she won't take them from me and I'm home alone during the day. Plus, I'd rather not give bottles because then I have to pump! I'm freaking that she's weaning or something!

Yup! Super normal! Nurse her in a dark room with zero distractions like screens or lights and sounds. NIP is a whole new game now too:(

I feel like NIP is just not going to happen right now. That doesn't bode well for next weekend....

I nursed in my car a lot because of this. It was a little easier to keep DD focused on nursing in the car. Having the AC running on high helped too since it's white noise.
I would love this if it'll work with the Symphony I just rented - I think it will. Apparently I have small nipples, who knew. I'm pumping 7x per day for the little one.
Physio on her jaw has been the only thing helping us breastfeed so far. Did the LC thing, the tongue tie thing. She came out a feisty and strong girl... no one told her that feeding isn't like heart surgery and she doesn't need to work so hard. I have my eye on the 6 month mark when I can slow down this holstein ritual. I've got to say though... the Symphony is awesome, I feel like I should give it a name.
It should work with your symphony! I also have found that "duckbill" valved work way better than the yellow plastic with white membranes.
I finally remembered to bring "duckbills" in for my pump that I use at work instead of the yellow with white membrane combo and I could kiss you right now! Sooo much more milk - thank you for making this comment!

You are so welcome!! Duckbills work so much better!
Add me to the list of people regressing a little with nursing. I mean, in comparison this is NBD, but curious. We had gotten to a beautiful place of being able to latch using cross cradle then keep nursing while switching to a laid back regular cradle. Love it! But we had a rough latch or two on the right so we are back to football hold over there. I am guilty of underutilizing that side. I mean, I still alternate, but if we start right, I almost always cut him off and switch to left. If we start left we almost always just stay left. Is there anything inherently wrong with that?

Do you think that spit up means the baby is full? Or are they unrelated?
I think /sometimes/ babies spit up when their tummies are over-full. But so many other things can cause spit up that it doesn't mean they're over-full just because they spit.
mrssqueegy, Just as I was reading your question above, I was nursing...But I don't think he was actually hungry....and then he spit up AT LEAST 20ml back. And then some more. I think he was overfull. But I think it's more related to the lower esophageal sphincter gaining strength and developing it's full function in addition to overfull tummy.

I just don't know if he spits up but keeps routing around, if he is still hungry or not. Sometimes I put him back on and he spits up again. But sometimes not.

This is me exactly.
Also given DSs slow weight gain I sort of doubt my ability to know if he's full or not. :/

DD spits up a lot so I offer until she is totally finished and just deal with the spit up just in case. Now she cries hysterically when she is done and I offer again like my boob might kill her. 😳

Omg DD does this last part, too! It caught me off guard the few couple times because DS was a huge comfort nurser. DD nurses until she's done and then I better not offer it again.

In the beginning my LC said not to worry about over feeding breastmilk since they will just spit up the extra, but IDK if that still applies. Sometimes baby I seems to just want to comfort nurse then gets mad when milk comes out. That's when we get the on and off fussy nursing. I try and switch sides frequently so we don't initiate letdown and eventually he calms down or remembers how to do the lazy suck.

So I have a question about supply and sleeping through the night.
Since going back to work, I find that I'm only getting to pump every 4-5 hours, but then pumping enough for 2 bottles at that time. At home, H nurses every 3-4 hours while awake, then sleeps from 9-5:30 ish. I'll pump at 11 at night just to keep from being uncomfortable though. I also do not have a stash, I pump for the next work day.
So it seems like towards the end of the evening I just have nothing left, and end up giving H a bottle of 2-4 oz formula after nursing him until he's too fussy. Am I messing up my supply by going this long without pumping/feeding through the night and at work?! I only work 3 days a week, but it just seems like before I went to work I didn't have this problem.
