Has anyone been working on naps? She goes down great and sleeps in her own bed, but can't make it past 1 sleep cycle. She always wakes at the 40ish minute mark. She sleeps graet at night now with only 1 wake up usually so i know she can do it. Anyone have any luck extending naps?
emmylo413 we've been having the same issue. If he manages to roll on his tummy he can sleep longer, but that's still not happening consistently. I just keep reminding myself that naps are harder, and keep putting him down for a nap every 2-3 hours.

Wanted to chime in, not sure if anyone else has seen a positive impact, but having her in the zipadee zip has helped Emma with her sleeping (at least this week). She is able to move (which would wake her up fighting it in the swaddle) but stops her from scratching her face (which would wake her up), keeps her some what restricted but not fully. So, knock on wood, we are finding it to be helpful. But she shows no interest in rolling while in bed so aren't having to deal with that (yet).
We attempted some sleep training last week for night time....it did not go very well. Our main goal was to get her to fall asleep on her own. Right now I nurse her to sleep. After the attempt at sleep training, I honestly don't feel comfortable yet and feel at peace with our current routine. She wakes up once per night mostly (sometimes can sleep through) and is usually able to sooth herself back to sleep without any intervention. Sometimes I'll nurse her if it's after 3am or so.
She appears to be an odd duck and has responded really well to being put down awake for naps instead. The first time we tried it took 10 minutes of crying for her to settle. Now she just chatters or whimpers for a few minutes and is out no problem. Naps are still short, but longer than they were in the swing weirdly enough.
Long story short: I'm horribly inconsistent but not quite sleep deprived to care yet. If her wakeups become more frequent, then I'll likely go back to trying some form of sleep training.

I'm glad zipadeezip has helped you guys! We tried it and the MMS and they were all a bust.

Yeah it didn't make her sleep long stretches but improved things a bit and didn't go backwards! And since she is congested so much she is rubbing her nose a lot so it stops her from scratching herself. That one is huge!

So to give you an idea of where we are in our sleep training process. We started last Friday night and really that was the only night we had a lot of crying. I say a lot but really in the end he slept from 9-3 so that isn't too bad. Since then, he has basically slept through the night and doesn't cry when being put into bed. He also wakes up in the morning and kind of plays in his crib. Today, he didn't cry 2 out of the 3 naps and even when he does it doesn't last long. It is amazing to me, to watch him roll over right away and go to sleep. We follow a rule for naps that is basically letting him fuss for 10-15 minutes. If he doesn't fall asleep we get him up and try again later. We have found that he will almost always fall asleep within 7 minutes at nap.
I realize sleep training isn't for everyone and babies will all respond differently but our lives, as a whole, have greatly improved.
Now if we can only get the little booger to nap more than 30 minutes.

I am currently working on extending naps as Cameron always wakes up after 30 minutes. According to the sleep training program we are following, naps are always the hardest to adjust. What I am doing now is letting him fuss for 5-10 minutes after he wakes up to see if he will fall back asleep. He has gone back to sleep a few times. I am hoping by this time next week we will see some improvement because he ends up being so tired because he wakes up so soon.
We've also made great progress in the month that we've been doing it. It was taking an hour for her to fall asleep. She was waking up after 1 sleep cycle and needing more rocking. I was having to hold her for every nap. By night 4 there was less than 5 min of fussing. She was starting to nap more in the crib. Currently, all naps in the crib (they are still less than an hour but she has fallen back asleep a few times, so I feel like they can only improve). She goes right to sleep and has quit waking up after 1 sleep cycle at night. She has also dropped 1 feeding.
We decided to start sleep training last night. Up until now, his sleep (both nighttime and naps) has improved greatly, but the nursing/rocking to sleep routine has drawn out longer and longer.
I thought we were doomed from the start because we were out late last night, and he fell asleep in the car. After a bottle and story, he was in bed around 8:45. DH checked on him every 20 minutes, and only had to do 2 checks until he was asleep. Up at 10:30, and again asleep after 2 checks. Up at 4:15, which is when I fed him. I was really worried about how easily he would fall asleep for me if I didn't let him nurse to sleep. I put him down in his crib awake, and he was asleep in 5 minutes!! I was floored. He's still asleep now at almost 9.
Hopefully naps aren't a complete disaster. They're fragile enough as it is now, so I'm not looking forward to putting him in his crib awake for those.

grinti Everything I've read says naps are the hardest part. We have made huge improvements in under 2 weeks. He doesn't cry anymore and he actually napped for 1.5hrs today. That never happens!! Good luck.

Well he fell asleep in less than 10 minutes and slept for 2 hours. He would have slept longer, but we have to head out soon. I'm amazed!!
We took a step back with teething and have nursed to sleep a couple days because she is screaming when I lay her down. But I get so freaked out that I'm taking a huge step backwards after she was doing so well putting herself to sleep last week. Hoping things go back to that after this tooth is through. Ugh, what to do...

Are you giving Tylenol or doing the stuff you put on their gums? (Can't remember what it's called.) I have always found that dosing Tylenol before bed has helped with teething.

Yup. We've tried Tylenol, Hylands teething tablets, an amber necklace, every teether under the sun... Heading into the ped now for an appt. to make sure it isn't ears.
Aaand...it's ears. Ear infection, not teething causing this ruckus. Starting antibiotics tonight and not feeling at all guilty about nursing her to sleep the next couple days.
Ugh this ear infection has really messed everything up. It's like she has totally forgotten everything about self soothing or putting herself to sleep. Crappy part is that she doesn't really want to be rocked either. So I nurse to sleep but the whole time I'm freaking that this is creating bad habits. But then I'm not sure if her ear still hurts so I can't blame her. This blows. Im so frustrated to have lost all that progress.

Oh no! At this point I would say trust your instincts. If you think she is hurting then do what you think is best. Once she is all better you can just start her over. Hopefully it won't take long to get her back on track. Hugs!
Those of you who have had success with sleep training: I'm wondering how long it took for your LO to go down quietly to sleep consistently? We're only on day 5, but so far she still cries pretty intensely for 15p lus minutes. I'm hoping we're about to turn a corner, but it's feeling like we're hitting a wall in terms of lessening the intensity of her cries from the get go. I guess I'm just hoping eventually we'll have a peaceful bedtime...tell me it gets better!
physiomeg Cam did take to going down without crying after 3-4 days. He will still fuss a little at nap times but nighttime he is completely quiet. You will be amazed when it does happen. I think Cam pretty much went from super fussy to zero and it surprised me, hopefully it will happen soon for you too.
We're back on track after the ear infection. It's not as easy as before, but I'm hoping after a couple more days we will get back ton falling asleep on her own. Anyone have trouble with LO waking after one sleep cycle when they first go down at night? Seems like every night I have to go back in about 40 minutes later and shush her back to sleep.
expatmama11 We have to do full extinction method. If she sees us at all the crying is so much more intense and it takes forever for her to go down. The first night took over an hour for her to fall asleep, so it's definitely improved. Last night she took 20min, and no wake-ups at all which is good.
She is able to fall asleep in about 5 minutes for naps, so I know she's capable. I'm worried nights are harder because she just wants to continue to nurse and she's angry that I'm stopping her. If it's not better in a few days I think I'll stop feeding her during our routine, but I'm nervous to throw her off even more.

We found leaving was also the best option for us, which is why I asked. I thought I was the only one with such a terrible first night. I had yet to hear from someone else that it took over an hour. I have a friend who it took 10 minutes. Ahhhh
Does she try to fall asleep while nursing?
It sounds like you are having success so probably will not be too much longer.

We always had that problem before we started sleep training. Once SL started I think it only took him a day or two to stop those early wake ups. He still does that for naps though, difficult to get him over a 30 minute nap.
When she wakes up do you give her some time to self soothe before going in?
