My mom wanted to call me Joy, or Joy Ann. This was cause for much hilarity as I was growing up, because I thought they were such awful names. But now I think they are just fine. Still prefer my own name though.
I don't think they had a boy's name lined up. They had already named my brother, so they were fresh out of boy names.
My parents always say they stopped having children after two because they struggled so much with names. It's exactly the same here!
Girl's name: mine. Mom won out and they used a very uncommon spelling. I like its coincidental cultural nod to Dad's heritage, but seeing as she picked it because it 'looked pretty', I would have preferred an easier spelling

My mom wanted to name me Christina Marie, which I like so much more than my own name— but she found out then that was my grandmother's full name, so it was vetoed. She had no idea. Everyone just called grandma Tina so mom thought her actual name was Tina.

I wasn't named for a week! I was Lily for a few days of that week but she decided to name me after my deceased grandmother instead. Mom claims she always knew I was a girl so no boy names.

I was almost Verity. My mom also was in love with the name Angharad (An-har-ed), a Welsh name that she picked up from the movie "How Green Was My Valley".... Another one on the short list was Robin, after my mom's eldest brother, which I really love and in first grade actually insisted was my real name, and signed it on all my art and homework and everything.
If I had been a boy I could have been St. John (pronounced Syn-jin). I can't remember the others on the boy short list, that one is bad enough.
In the end I came out and they didn't think I looked like any of their short list of names, so they cast about for a name and settled on the first name of the author of the book my mom had brought to the hospital with her. I hated it growing up and I still don't particularly like it or think it's pretty at all, but I guess I've made my peace with it.
Alternate name for me would have been Sarah Grace, until grandma declared it to be old fashioned. If I was a boy, it would have been Sean Paul. Dodged a bullet there! If DH had been a girl, he would have been named my name.

My parents decided that my father was going to name the first child and my mother would name the second and they'd each get a name for any other children. I was the second child, so I got my mother's name choices.
Had I been a boy, I would have been Byron Ashley.
Had my Dad been able to name me as a girl, I would have been Jane Ellen.
I really dislike the boy name choice, but I dislike Jane Ellen even more. I don't particularly care for my name, but it's marginally better than the other options.
My name (first and middle) was the name my dad had decided he would use as a pseudonym if he published a book (at least that's what they told me) so I don't think there was anything else on the list for a girl the first time around. My younger sister is Julia, so I assume that was runner up? I like Julia slightly more than my name, but I like my name. I assume, based on my younger brother, that I would have been Noel if I had been a boy, but I know that my mom also really liked the name Calder.

My parents didn't have a third girl name so they got mine while reading movie credits. They knew I was a girl so I don't think they had any boy names picked out. I should ask though if they had a boy name for my sisters.
My sister, however, wanted to name me Emily. She threw a huge fit so it's my middle name. I love my first name a lot more.

My mom wanted to name me either Carly or Jill and my dad vetoed both. So she bought me 2 cabbage patch dolls and named them that. I like both names about the same as my own.
I think they said Jesse was the name if I were a boy.

Alternate name was Nicole. They did not have a boy name picked out for me because my mom insists she knew I was going to be a girl and didn't bother picking one.

My parents didn't have a boy name for me I don't think. My dad wanted to name me Norma Jean after Marilyn Monroe. My mom said no way. I don't love my name but it's better than Norma Jean.
If I had been a boy I would have been Christopher. I don't know if my parents were considering other girl names. My younger sister is Rachel, so that may have been their backup.
My dad wanted Genevieve for a girl and Buck for a boy. (Yes, he's a hunter.) I can't remember if my mom had any other names in mind. I'd have to ask her.
Thank God my grandma suggested what became my name.
