Thanks! It sure is a lot harder than I anticipated. I haven't done a weighted feed, but I may reach out to a LC here soon and ask about that. The pedi asked me to pump when they're due for a feed to see about what I'm producing. I only got an oz total this evening. That was discouraging. She's having us up their supplement amount for now until I can get my supply figured out. Sigh.
Some people just don't respond the same to the pump as they do to a baby. Don't get too discouraged.
Yes this. I still only get about an ounce when I pump but we've now stopped supplementing and are back to birth weight (took 3 weeks). The pump just may not do it.

Ladies with supply issues. I ate/eat oatmeal every morning with DD/DS. Whenever I ran into supply issues with DD, I took Motherlove More Milk Plus. It contains fenugreek. I did not take it as often as suggested because it was not cheap but my supply always seemed to bounce back after a few doses. I nursed/pumped for DD until she was 15 months...3 months into my pregnancy with DS. Good luck. You are all doing very well even if it does not feel like it.
Glad L is super close to birth weight! Hopefully G gets there soon. Have you tried doing a weighed feed to see how much they're getting? And after the 1 oz of supplementation do they still seem hungry? You're doing a great job! This momming is hard work

My LO wasn't gaining like he should, and the LC had me pump for 15 minutes after every feed, even though I only produced milk for a few of those minutes. It skyrocketed my supply. Although it did also suck (literally, har har). Maybe try it just for daytime feedings?

Also, we still have to supplement with a bottle about twice a day because my inefficient eater just doesn't seem to get what he needs from breastfeeding alone.
The hospital pump and million other things I'm doing to get my supply back up from mastitis seem to be working. Still not making enough and having to use some of my stash, but making more than the nothing I was yesterday!

MOTN pumping session because I woke up with a clogged duct. First one ever. Boo. And it's on my low producing side too -what gives?! Pump doesn't seem to be fixing it and I only got 1oz. I guess I'll try the baby next...
How do you know when you get a clogged duct? Pain?
Big hard lump in one of your breasts that persists after nursing or pumping. Imagine your engorged breast draining everywhere except one spot. It can get painful.
I finally got some relief by taking a hot shower, massaging and then nursing the baby. NOT how I wanted to spend two hours of my precious overnight! It's going to be annoying if I can't efficiently express milk from that breast with a pump. I've been pumping twice a day and only getting 1oz from that side (compared to 4-5oz from the other). I suspect that's why it clogged. Anyone have advice on how I can improve my pumping for this problem?
frecklesnbrains Sorry about the duct, that sounds like a pain! I have a side, the left, that doesn't pump well. I usually let DS nurse from the left twice in a row because he doesn't have any trouble getting what he needs from it. Then after the second nursing I'll just pump the right and get a good amount just from that side.

This is pretty much my strategy, though I worry about it when I become more dependent on pumping (when I go back to work) so I was wondering if there were any pumping tricks that would help. I'm still 6 weeks away from going back to work though, so hopefully the problem will just correct itself in that time.

Does anyone else's kid almost seem to be too excited to latch properly?
Her latch is great at night when she's barely awake but sometimes during the day she clearly wants the boob but is so wiggly and basically shakes her head back and forth over my nip, mouth wide open.

We do this too. I can't quite figure out why, but maybe when she's really hungry. It's never a good feeding session, lots of on and off...which for us means gassy. I think I need to anticipate and keep track of time better and start feeding her before she asks.

That makes a lot of sense. It seems to happen most in the afternoon when my boobs feel least full. Maybe it's possible I'm not giving her enough this time of day..?

I bet you have enough milk for her, she may just prefer it to come out faster.

Yes. I can't tell if he's starving or just messing around so I give him a minute to figure it out and then stop and try again in 5-10 minutes of he doesn't latch properly. Usually the second try he latches immediately.

I was just going to ask this. He will latch and start eating, then comes off, cries, moves his mouth around like crazy and won't latch. It happens at different times of day so I'm not sure if it's my milk or flow or he is just being crazy.

Mine does this. It completely cracks me up because he always has this super determined look on his face like I'm the one flailing around and he is on the hunt. If he is really struggling, I'll sit him up for a minute and play with him. Then when I lie him back down I make sure I hold his head and my breast and aim him right where I want him.

I call this the shark attack! It makes me laugh every time too.
And I do the same thing - sit him up, calm him down a bit, and then try again by putting his head exactly where it needs to be.

Lol that's a perfect name for it - shark attack. LO does the same thing during MOTN feedings because he goes longer and is hangry.
My LO has this blister type thing on the center of his top lip. Doesn't look painful or red. Just like there is a little fluid and the skin comes off sometimes. Does anyone know if this could it be a sign of a latch problem or some other type of problem? He seems to latch ok to me.

Sometimes it can be a sign of an upper lip tie because he's not keeping his upper lip flanged, or just moves it a lot while nursing. My LC told me the upper lip didn't *need* to be flanged, but at least neutral and not curled inward.
If you're not experiencing discomfort and he's getting enough it might be okay and will go away as a callous forms.

DS1 had a tongue tie so I made sure the Pedi looked into that with DS2 at the hospital but maybe she didn't look for lip tie too? I'll check his upper lip position next feed. Feeding isn't painful for me and he is getting what he needs so I'm just going to wait and see if his lip will toughen up. Thanks for the info!
