That's awesome tootsie! With DD1 I found small goals were super important. My first goal this time around is 3 months EBF and then making it to 6 months EBF since I'll be back at work and pumping 4 days a week. After that I would be happy to make it to a year but I'm not going to stress about it. With DD1 my supply dropped at 7 months and we had to start supplementing despite my best efforts to get my supply back up. This time around I'm going to be more relaxed if that happens. She can get what BM she can get and formula will be fine if needed too. By then she'll be on solids anyway so it's just like another food at that point.

I go back to work November 7th. I'm trying to give a bottle 3x a week to gear up for that. Irene doesn't refuse it or gag (yay!) but she doesn't really go to town on it either and just kind of plays with it. Is that good for now? I'm assuming if she's at daycare all day she'll eventually want to eat more and be more organized feeding. Plus daycare teachers are wizards right?
Congrats tootsie! I hope you reach your goal. Did you nurse your older daughter? If so, did you struggle or are things different this time around?
Thank so! Yes, I did nurse DD1 as well, I think EBF until around 6 months then combo fed til I weaned at 8 months. I have been lucky with both girls that breastfeeding comes easy physically. I really struggled with PPD with DD1 though and a big contributor was the fact that I felt like nursing was a big ball and chain. I put a lot of pressure on myself and felt like I had to breastfeed. Things got a lot better when I quit. This time, I was prepared to give formula at the first struggle but thought I'd give bf a try to see how it goes. I told myself not to quit on a bad day, and so far it's been a pretty smooth road. Oh, and I'm properly medicated now and have so far avoided PPD, yay!

Hazel definitely takes s bottle better for everyone else than she does for me, she plays with it and takes for-freaking-ever to finish it. Problem free at daycare so far! These babies seem to know when the bottle is the only option, she'll do great at daycare.
I would like to make it to 6 months of EBF with S. I only got to 4 months with L and I really want to pass that. My ultimate goal is a year though but I know pumping is hard and I will be doing it 5x a week.

Yay for goals met! Seriously those first couple months are so hard and by far the hardest part. Boo that I typed in a way that sounds like I'm a child predator. How did I miss that? Baby brain is strong.
My goal is that he self weans when he is ready and I was lucky enough to do that with my first and everything is going well so far. It's overwhelming to think of nursing for months and years to come but it's also my last biological child and I'll cry when it ends. Breastfeeding is a total mind game.

I just posted this in the other thread -- my goal at this point is 6 months. From there, I'll take it day by day. I don't see myself going past a year.
Number One: Born 06.16.2009 BFP: 01.17.2014 / MC 02.05.2014 BFP: 03.08.2014 / MMC: 05.07.2014 Dx: Partial Molar/GTD. Benched until 01.2015 Number Two: Born 07.22.2016
My goal is to keep at it until I can't anymore. With J, I had been shooting for 6 months and had to quit at 5.5 because of stress and supply issues. This time, I am leaving it wide open, and will go until it is not working. Whether I quit next, next month or next year, I am making sure to not put any pressure on myself.
I never really thought of having goals. I naively just assumed breast feeding would work.
I guess I am really hoping to make it to at least 6mo when he's starting solids and then I figured there'd be a natural scaling back.
However, I realize with possible impending supply issues with my return to work and need to be sleeping to function at work, I may have to supplement.
(Side note - I've seen in a few places starting solids at 4months - thoughts on this?)
I'm waiting until 6 months minimum. I started purees at 5 months with DD & it was basically just a huge mess, with not much going into her belly. With E, I plan to skip the purees & go with baby led weaning. www.babyledweaning.com/

From what I've heard that is an older recommendation. The AAP now recommends starting solids around 6 months.SaveSave
This.
Also, when you're nursing and starting solids you always want to nurse first, solids after that. There's more nutrition in BM and half the time they don't get any actual food in their mouths.

I'm not going to judge people who choose 4 months but since many think 6 months is better and babies are completely healthy on only breast milk and/or formula, I wait. No harm in waiting. I also do baby led weaning and skip baby cereal. It seems right to me.

I'm in camp 6 months for solids. It's just a big mess with little food actually going in the baby's mouth at the beginning anyway so I'm in no big rush for solids. I'll probably do a combo of BLW and purées. I really want E to be a better eater than my older one so I'll be looking for all the tips in a few months.
I will most likely wean E between 14-15 months. I stay home so I won't have pumping/supply issues. I weaned DS1 on his 14 month birthday so I want to go at least 1 day more just to let this baby win something :-)

FTM and hoping my boobs are willing to BF for at least 6 months, but I'd like to nurse until 1 year. Planning on BLW around 6 months but will take cues from A for when he's ready.
My DD1 would barely take any food at 6 mo. I had this big plan to make my own baby food starting with sweet potato and avocado and she'd have none of it. The ony thing she'd eat were the super thin, watery Step 1 purees, and never more than 1 or 2 bites. I could never get any fresh food thin enough for her, so I said F it and just did jarred baby food. She became more interested at 7-8 months.
I stressed about it way too much. Not doing that again. Now she's a rockstar eater who likes thinks like smoked salmon with capers, kale, anchovies, olives, etc.

We started cereal at 4 months with L because his pediatrician recommended it. At that point he was going through 10-11 small cans of the special formula a month and he was still very colicky/fussy. The pedi thought cereal may help... spoiler... it didn't because even the expensive formula has trace milk protein in it that was bothering him and he was still drinking that.
This time I plan on introducing solids after 6 months when S indicates he is ready. We will try BLW.

Question for pumpers: what is your favorite storage bag for milk? I got the Medela pump and save bags and hate them. They don't seal well and leak if I don't keep them upright. I'd like to be able to freeze them flat.

I have a mixture of the lansinoh and target brand. I like both, the target brand does seem a bit more durable just by the feel. I haven't thawed any yet.

I just use walmart's parents choice brand. Wayyyyy cheaper. I haven't thawed any yet but I like the double zip closure and I lay them flat to freeze.
I had a horrible experience pumping at work. I basically had to use a supply closet in the gym and kids were constantly trying to open the door. Once the custodian unlocked it despite multiple signs on the door saying do not open, occupied.
I also had a terrible time letting down for the pump. I would pump 3 times at work and only got about 6 oz. he ate 8-9 at DC so I had to pump extra at home and on weekends to make it up.
I'm hoping the Medela will be better. I had an Ameda last time.
I know this was posted awhile ago but I just wanted to say I had the Ameda last time and it sucked for me. I had the same issues as you. I have a Medela this time and when I have pumped it has done so much better. My supply is also better this time so I think various factors, but still.
