Hey, y'all. I thought this might be a nice ongoing thread as we get more outside babies. Post your comments, questions, vents, etc. here for all things breastfeeding.

Thanks for starting this. I'll be in here soon enough too. I was one week shy of 3 years with DD. I had 3 glorious months of my own body before this pregnancy! But each kid is different so I'll probably have new questions and concerns.
Thanks! I was thinking it was somewhere around 2 oz.
Chunky Evie is just shy of 4 weeks eating 4 oz lol
she is FF though right? It is normal for FF babies to eat more oz and BF babies to eat fewer. BM is more calorically dense than formula. A lot of BF babies' bottle intake will max out at 4-5 oz when FF babies the same age are eating 8-9 oz.

Makes sense. And I think that I read somewhere that FF tend to eat more because moms push more for them to finish the bottles when you don't do the same on the breast because you can't see exactly how much they've eaten. Like there are plenty of times she just eats 3 oz but some people assume that they need to eat it all.

Dangle feeding and positioning baby's chin at the the clog helps as does a hot shower and raking it with a wide toothed comb. As much nursing as possible on that side.
PP gave good suggestions- if it's still Clogged a wide tooth comb or something that vibrates (I used a toothbrush!!) and rub towards the nipple. Don't be freaked out if strange stuff comes out, it's normal
My nipples hurt, my kid is clusterfeeding... But we are getting better at this show
Awesome! It took a good 2-3 months for me to really feel like I got the hang of nursing, but it ended up being a really enjoyable experience for both DS and me. But man, those first few weeks were miserable for me so I'm glad to hear things are improving! Keep it up!

We are still getting the handle of things here. My nipples feel like they are going to fall off lol. Anyone else using an app to keep track of things?
In the very beginning with DS I wrote it down in a notepad, but I am very much not with it when it comes to technology. Once he regained birth weight (around two weeks old) I stopped keeping track.

+1 I kept track of wet and dirty diapers too, to make sure A was in the typical range, but only for the first week or so.

I have noticed the past couple days A is quite fussy and his tummy is distended/hard. I tried gently massaging it, bicycling his legs, tummy time, etc. He doesn't burp easily, and spits up frequently when he does burp. He has been attached to my boob almost hourly the last couple days, too. He is pooping "normally" so I don't think he is constipated. Am I doing something wrong? When do I bring this to his pedi's attention?

It might just be gas. I wouldn't call specifically for this but I would mention it at the next visit unless it gets worse.
DS had a ton of belly issues. Including not pooping for 9 straight days.
I would try gas drops or gripe water to help with the hard belly. That seems like gas. These were awesome. They say anti colic...but that's just for marketing. They are probiotics.
Eta- they aren't $85 LOL! I just googled for the image

LOL they better be magical drops for $85! Thank you! I will give them a try!
madamewaffles another thing you can do to help encourage burping is to keep him upright more, especially after feelings. Carriers or slings are good for that. I hope it goes away- you're not doing anything wrong! These tiny people are so hard to figure out.
also madamewaffles, ... he is 3 weeks right? It is very very common for newborn fussiness to intensify at 3 weeks, peak at 6 weeks, and then slowly taper off. Cluster nursing and 'witching hours' (where they want to nurse, latch for a short time, pull off, cry, then want to nurse again, repeat 100x) can be totally normal, although sanity-killing for moms. Kellymom has some good advice on characteristics of normal fussiness: kellymom.com/parenting/parenting-faq/fussybaby/ and this page on normal afternoon/evening fussiness: kellymom.com/parenting/parenting-faq/fussy-evening/
I had a baby SuperFuss and those weeks nearly pushed me to the edge. Hang in there.
f is 2.5 days old and has been wanting to nurse All. morning. No milk yet. Is there even enough colostrum to fill him up? I feel bad because he seems so hungry.
