Did my books tonight. I now have a large box of donations, and all that's on my bookshelf are my yearbooks (which will probably find a new home) and exactly 7 other books.
I sell children's books though...so those 5 boxes worth are still here. Now they can fit on the shelves instead of in boxes!
Kitchen is done!!! And with my surge of energy I dove into the storage room to purge the boxes my kitchen things came in. Best/wtf finds; extra magic bullet gaskets and an accessory for my food processor, both of which I'd replaced because I thought we were out, and three boxes for things we no longer own.

I'm joining the bandwagon. I feel like our "keeper" tendencies are contributing to my depression. So it's time to say farewell to SO MUCH SHIT.
I hope I can be forgiven for not thanking the shirts from my former employer. I screamed fuck you at them as I threw them into the box.
We sorted our clothes for donation by dressy and casual. The casual clothes are going to the goodwill near the college campus.
The dressy clothes, we are intentionally taking to the inner-city goodwill. My husband had 10 CK suits (among other work clothes) that he won't fit into in this lifetime. I know that goodwill location almost never gets really nice clothing donated, and I hope it makes a difference in someone's life.

The number of times I had to ask MH does it bring you enough joy to move it across the country is ridiculous. He wanted to keep local brewery growlers because they are useful.....
I feel like I have hit the wall, to steal a metaphor from people who exercise. I know I need to push through. It's going to be tough to SAHP in this house with so much in disarray. Tuesday the company that is hosting our sale will come through. Wednesday is MH's last day of work. We will send items for mailing (things we'll need pretty immediately upon arrival) on that day, and Thursday we'll pack up everyone's clothes. Friday we will do our final prep of the stuff left in our house for the sale and pack our carry on bags. I think the sale people will come once again. I might get us a hotel room that night. Undecided.
Get the hotel room. The day will be stressful enough without feeling like the walls are collapsing in on you. What time is your flight the next day? I'm a big fan of staying by the airport for early flights

It's very early! And check in with our traveling circus (including a cat) will be... mayhem. Double stroller, 2 car seats, 2 kids, a cat, 3 carry ons, and 4 pieces of checked luggage. 😅😅😅
ETA but the cat is a significant hotel room challenge.
So much stuff and people! I don't know how far you are from the airport but I like removing the stress of unknown traffic and potentially missing the flight.

Google says Canada has the Days Inn chain. When I moved across country with my cat, that's where we stayed every night.
Tackled the toddler's clothes. My storage method has been "toss in box" so there was A LOT. I kept a small box of sentimental stuff, a box for my sister (TTC), and got rid of the rest. I have a ThredUp bag on my porch and still donated 5 boxes to Goodwill.
I started going through my closet today. I had done some serious purging about a year ago so I didn't think I'd get rid of much. But I found things. Why is it so hard to get rid of clothes. Even ones I really liked but either don't fit, or are just worn out so they are not as nice as they once were. I have a hard time remembering that each clothing item is not going to last a lifetime.
But I have a bags worth ready to go now. Also getting rid of a bunch of those dang wire hangers.
I have 4 trash bags full of donations that H is going to drop off, and threw away about half a trash bag worth. I'm down to 2 heaping laundry baskets, at least 3/4 of one of those is just work uniforms.
Is it weird that I want to get rid of all my hangers and buy new ones? H thinks it is.
Not weird! I did this three years ago and it still makes me happy. I bought the black velvet hangers on amazon.
I have to take a break from kon Mari to organize everything. We literally have piles of junk in the basement because we have no storage. I spent tonight sorting and trashing stuff so that I can go back through the categories again from the beginning.
Cleaned the freezer today. Got some clear bins from Marshalls for organizing. I need to make labels for the designated bins, but everything is in it's place. I found frozen cherries in my freezer!! I've been looking for them and there they are.
After and before shot (my phone wouldn't do it the right order)
Omg our freezer... MH and I had a (only semi-serious) CTJ today over his freezer use. He sees things he likes on sale, buys them, puts them in the freezer, and then nothing. I was like "where did all this sausage come from? And pork tenderloin?" And here I am trying to find recipes to use all of it... Enough with the pork already!
MH used to buy a bunch of meat, then only use half. Freeze the rest with no label. No idea what it was or how old. I'm in charge now, so at least I can manage the chaos.
I love the neat freezer and refrigerator pics. I'm thinking I need to do this soon.
I finally got the laundry room finished and actually enjoyed doing laundry today. I tried to take a picture of it, but the space is so narrow, I couldn't get a good one. I put up new shelves and organized them, and then I got hampers that can hang on the wall to get our old crappy hamper off the floor. The way it's set up, we'd have to move the hamper back and forth to go from the garage into the house or vice versa. No more!
I did my laundry last year and had someone come out and clean the vent. It was amazing how much lint was in there. Apparently, I am supposed to be doing this yearly? It had been five years.

I never thought about the freezer. I do know once something makes it to the bottom of the freezer drawer it never gets cooked and just ends up being thrown out. Usually with us both trying to remember what it was.
We also have the problem of nothing having a label. We do have a nice upright freezer out in the garage, but again, things often just go there to hang out until we end up having to throw them away.
This thread is so inspiring! I did work for a little while yesterday on my freezer/fridge and the pantry cabinet. I have a loooong way to go, but this thread is very motivating! I love seeing all of the before and after pics.
I could look at before & after pics of pantry & fridge/freezers all day.
I keep forgetting to take pics. We finally finished papers (took a week). Filled a big blue recycling bag, and a brown paper grocery bag (to be shredded), and separated out a big stack of stuff that will get sorted when we do mementos. I got a hanging vertical file thing that's now hanging on the back of our office door, and I love it so much. Maybe I'll come back with pics. Then over the weekend we did CDs/DVDs and stationary/supplies. Electronics and cords up next... I came across 4 or 5 old iPhones (and countless related chargers & headphones) and a Droid that's probably 10 years old in the stationary drawer. Oops.
I still have old computers to tackle. Next weekend we will be taking them down to the concrete basement and they will meet their fate with the sledge hammer. When we did the study we threw out 2 old digital cameras, i was really sad to see my old sony go but it was from 2004 and mu cell phone has a better camera on it now. It was my first digital camera and i bought it especially for my year study abroad.

So much money wasted.
That's what happens anytime we put something in the freezer other than chicken nuggets or ice cream.
I was going through DS's artwork and crafts. Unless it's him drawing people, I don't really pay too much attention to the scribbles.
Until I gathered them all together and realized he's been writing his name at the bottom of everything he draws. Messy, but some of them are pretty close to looking right. I know they work on it in therapy and at school, but just by hand over hand. I probably wouldn't have noticed it without putting them all together to go through.
