emmagk just wait till you get here.... I thought Ottawa had an intense recycling and composting system. We are so far in over our heads here. There is a phone app for recycling/compost/garbage questions and reminders.
We stayed in an airbnb in yaletown on the 34th floor and I was so confused and annoyed that there wasn't a garbage shoot. When I got down to the trash room I realized why, zomg to all the recycling categories!

Oh and I can't wait to come sort recycling. We got 79cm of snow yesterday! And it's snowing gentle again now
Marie Kondo says we are to hang the longest, heaviest items on the left because as our eye travels right towards lighter, shorter things, we feel like we're moving upwards.
Or something.
It's hilarious. Now you can choose to really drink the koolaid or not. WHAT WILL IT BE? 🍹
I tried her method in my closet and I have to say... I really like it! Mayhe I hit the koolaid too hard, I do feel it makes a difference for whatever reason.

Depending on which municipality you're moving to, you might not even need to sort recycling. Everything (paper, plastic, metal)...all in one bin! And we have curbside pick up for stuff that can be composted.
KM would be so disappointed in me because I'm not sure I'm doing anything the way she said to.
She only wants for you to have joy and peace in your life. She shared her method because it worked for her, and she thought it might be helpful to you. I trust that if her method doesn't offer you joy, she would want you to thank it for what it did bring you, and then release it.💕
I have a cabinet of random stuff I want to go through. I know there is a box of sentimental high school stuff in there. It may be quite cringe-worthy to go through.
I did paper earlier this week and have a plan for incoming paper which has felt so good. I cheated and didnt really go through the stuff I already have filed in our cabinet, bUT I may return to it.
I should probably finish the book too. I was over 20th place for a hold from the public library, but my school librarian just got it for staff so I snagged it a few weeks ago.
I am on komono but am seeing paper/mail starting to make a come back. I am going to clear up my mail bin and brainstorm a better system for tackling. Or maybe I just need to make this a weekly to do thing. I am good with throwing ads I don't need right in the recycling bin, just the other stuff that needs help.

Jumping in! I've been trying to read this thread for a couple days now but am only on tapatalk page 18 of 42. We've been building a new house for 18 months (thanks Canada) and we are living in a furnished rental. We are moving in 2 weeks! And I'm determined to purge before I pack. And I figure it's easier to do now than after we move.
I downloaded the app and did the kitchen this morning because I could do it while the kids played. DVDs are next then cleaning supplies because they are all on the main floor. I can't wait to do my clothes!

Thanks for the inspiration!
We are at the very beginning of a rebuild process. Were you dealing with a developer?
I'm trying to decide if we want to rent furnished or not. Furnished sound good since we'll only need to move the stuff in and out of storage once instead of in and out of houses.

We have a private builder building for us. We ended up 8 months late on our possession date. If I could do it again, I would have liked to have an unfurnished place because I have no idea how all of my furniture is going to have held up in storage for so long. But it is going to make moving easier as most things are packed already.
