I did the workshop today and the garage is too cold to do. I still have lots more to get rid of like old lighting maybe 5 of them but we have no idea if they are antiques and valuable and no clue where to take them for consignment..So they will stay.
.I also still have my baby gates and some old logs from the gas fireplace. It's more my H's stuff- his workshop and Konmari says I can't just get rid of his stuff so I guess I'm as good as I am going to get. It still feels like too much though and not all organized. The problem is that ultimately H is a slob.
I just have a few loose ends to tie up and then I am about as done as I will get. Except paper.
I tried folding my clothes in kon mari style. I love it but I'm finding it so hard to mantain! I feel like I need a table in my closet to fold on. I don't wash everytime I wear stuff (jeans, etc) and the folding seems to require something flat and two hands so I feel like I'm constantly folding stuff on the floor. How do others maintain? Any tricks?
Get one of those fold-out ironing boards that hang from the door or mount to the wall.
I found the Canadian equivalent of ThredUp. I got $66 in credit which is way more than I anticipated. I have three more boxes of stuff that I'll be sending them this week. I figure I can buy DD's wardrobe by selling her brothers' used clothing this way.

Oooh! What is it? I have a few things I'd like to sell.

May I jump in having not read the thread or the book? I do understand the gist of decluttering and getting rid of things that don't give you joy which is what I did yesterday in my bedroom.
I first went through my closet and got rid of things that I haven't worn in years or thought I could fit back into one day. I got rid of two trash bags full of clothes. I also went through my jewelry which I've owned since high school. I probably got rid of 50 pairs of earrings and 20 necklaces. That part was the hardest because it meant I had to grow up. I had to take some moments to thank some of them for the joy they brought me because I really have loved them for so long.
Next weekend I'm moving on to our spare bedroom and the bathroom.
@cacophony, jump in! Going by category (or even subcategory) is the biggest difference in KM vs regular purging to me. So far, so good in having it "stick" in the categories I've finished too.

I've been slowly weeding out things to give to good will/consign and when my family came over this weekend they went through my piles and "shopped" before H dropped them off. It was a really nice feeling to see how happy they were with their "new" things. New gym shoes that didn't fit me (whyyy did I hang on to them for so long??) a picture frame, a tote, and holiday placemats all found new homes!
emmagk how are things going for you? If there is anything at all I can do to help on this end LMK.
I was just reading your update! I'm so glad you all got there ok but i'm sorry you are all sick.
MH leaves in 3 weeks, DS and I will not be going with him at this point, we still don't have an offer on the house. I was freaking out last night because once he's gone i don't know who to put on DS daycare sheet as backup contact, so yeah little things are causing major anxiety. But on the plus side H found an airbnb for a month that we can afford, and we may have an option on the cars that doesn't involve driving or transporting them. Oh and our family doctor here has a doctor cousin out there who is going to take us on! I hate that everything is so up in the air.
Oh and all the daycares i've contacted have said come talk to them when we are there! Not helpful when i need full time childcare from day 1.

Ok well that's amazing that you have a doctor to take you on, it's going to be years before we get in with one apparently!
I wish I could help with the emergency contact situation, could you make it someone from YH's old work that he knows? Idk, just grasping. I'll happily be one for you here if you need someone outside the family on the list. I am looking into childcare right now and I'm not really impressed with how things are organized but maybe I need to get used to it, it's just different I guess. I'm used to a very streamlined, city wide system.
So glad YH has a place to stay! I'll keep everything crossed you get a solid bite on your house soon.
The family doctor situation is so bad. I can't believe how lucky we got with that one.
I have 1 friend here who i'll have to put down. I wasn't sure if i should ask since she has a 3yo and 8mo already and i'm sure she wouldn't want my sick kid in her house if i couldn't pick him but but i have no other options.
If you find any decent daycare places in Coquitlam that can take on an almost 3yo let me know! I'm used to a disorganized chaotic system, that's NBs standard operating format.
And hark to your cat situation! Interistingly i asked my vet last week about flying with the cat and she said she won't sedate.
tLex, how wonderful that your family did so much for you. You guys really deserve it and I hope you can get settled soon. Maybe you could host a dinner to thank everyone, when you're up to it.
Good luck with the rest of the details and enjoy your new adventure in your new home!
Love tit in agreement. I hope you are well soon. How special to have so much love thrown your way. People are good!

Sporadic poster/lurker here, but my husband was raised in Coquitlam!
I am happy to report that my cupboards have remained neat and tidy. My kids are now in charge of unloading most of the dishwasher and having things neater has really helped them be successful.
I finished listening to the book Tuesday. I've already done a basic sweep of my wardrobe and changed my system of folding. Now I want to do all the things! It might take me a few months but I have goals. I want a joyful house.
emmagk and tLex I moved to the Fraser Valley from out East a bit over a year ago. The time change was brutal on the 18month old, the 4 year old was fine. Fraser Health had centralized numbers for family doctors and daycare places. It still took me over 9 months to find a family doctor though. Feel free to PM me. I live south but am in the city for work.
For everyone else I just cleaned out my vanity cupboard in my bathroom. So much misplaced junk seemed to collect under there.
I went after my desk and am almost done. I pulled out some binders I hadn't touched in 8 years, recycled the paper and salvaged all of the sheet protectors. I'm taking Monday off and will start on paper at home

Organized my bookshelves by color this week. They bring me joy everytime I see them! I konmaried them last Fall but needed my husband to get on board and do his. Now book and marital bliss.
@leatherpants, did you see the article I posted in the WLC thread about how KMing is a form of mindfulness/ meditation? I thought that was really neat.
Anyway, I'm not devoted but I work on stuff when I can. I did my big kid's closet last week. Makes me wish I knew how to post pics.
I find I have to take the extra time to fold but I am inspecting the clothes better when I do and getting rid of worn socks and holey stuff MH holds onto.
I have been SAH for four years and kept all my work clothes for when my youngest is in school with plans to go back to work. Well, I just got rid of all of it. The clothes are dated and probably don't fit right anymore anyways. I'll just find a wardrobe when I get a job. No sense in holding onto that.
