I feel like in my purging this week, I have accepted some things about myself.
Ex....I used to always do tons of fun accessories. Cheap and changing with the trends. Now I almost always wear diamond or pearl studs, and a diamond necklace from my DH. I have a couple of long necklaces for the styles that need it. The only accessory I change up daily is bracelets. So well I want to be fun and trendy, the truth is, classic is where I am at right now with my accessories game. So I said goodbye to EVERYTHING i don't wear at least 1x per month.
I am also realizing that my 20 something self valued quantity and variety and my 30 something self values quality.
You guys. Tonight is the night. These are MH'S downstairs books. MAYBE 5% of these are mine. There are probably an equal number upstairs. Sweet baby Jesus grant me the serenity to get through this. And sweet Lord help me if MH is not as ready as I think he is to get rid of these dustcatchers. I want to burn them all.

I have had a donation bag half full for months. This thread inspired me to fill it up and get it out of the house. I'm not Kon Mari'ing just yet, but every little bit helps!
This thread is the best. I've been decluttering the shit out of my house all week. I'm not going full on Kon Mari but making good progress! Today I cleaned out my glove box and found receipts from 2013. Oops.
This is it. All the books that are left. Well except a few coffee table books. And (unfortunately) my current school books. I can't even believe it. I don't know what to do with all our shelves.
Last time I counted DS's books, he had around 900. Now I think it's probably over 1000. They are literally in every room in our house. I'm so looking forward to KonMaring that and getting it to where he can keep them all in his room.
Also, if you struggle with throwing books away and can't find anywhere to donate them, I've brought a lot of my books to these: littlefreelibrary.org/
I've been trying to get DH on board with building one and we could supply it with DS's books for a very long time.

Digitizing my CD and DVD collection is more time and money than I want to spend right now so a storage case is coming from Amazon. All those cases definitely do not bring me joy and having a binder that just takes up a few inches on a shelf will help so much.
Operation clothing today. So many people have dropped off clothing for the kids that we don't need, plus the seasons have officially changed so rain gear can go away.
I bought DD an outfit for Christmas months ago and I can't find that sucker anywhere. I'm going it's just buried somewhere.
I've been keeping up with this thread and itching to get to work myself but I don't have the time to commit right now to do it right. I will hopefully be starting soon though when schedules settle down!
I just took before pictures of my bedroom closets. Here is a sneak peak so I feel obligated to tackle this or be embarrassed to show my face around here anymore, lol. I can't wait to Kon mari this shit!
I need you guys to hold me accountable for my basement over the next two weeks. H is off and my goal is to have all the toys in the basement so I can fit the crib in the kids room.
We got rid of a bunch of wine glasses (among other shit) when we moved. But I mean we still have a healthy amount. Like 5 red and 5 white maybe. My parents are visiting and BOTH have offered to buy us more wine glasses. They need to become acquainted with Kon Mari in the worst way. I was like "we aren't too poor for wine glasses we like it this way!!"
What does she think about a bunch of random craft stuff? Like a closet full?
one of my main reasons for doing kon Mari is to make a home for my art and craft supplies. As long as you consider each item and give every item a home there's no reason you can't keep the things that bring you joy. Really the whole point is that so there's space in your home and your life for what you really care about.

I have 12 place settings and a lot of towels, but they all have a place and it brings me joy not to have to do laundry more than once/twice a week.
We have a dishwasher and I grew up in a house where you never left a dirty dish in the sink and I still can't do it. No one is ever left washing a ton of dishes.
DH called me and asked if I wanted a t-rex salt & pepper shaker for a Christmas present. I told him no more stuff in the misc category before I start the Kon Mari cleaning.
But I know what the hardest thing is going to be for me. So a lot of things happened this year where I donated to specific things (a mental health unit, pediatric unit, and mostly flood victims). I have this mentality that I need to hang onto things in case something happens like a natural disaster. But I'm storing a lot of stuff just for donations.
Is this addressed in the book? How do I stop thinking like this?

Yeah, it's addressed. Happy to discuss it in depth but I don't know if you want to wait until you reach that part of the book?
Oh good, I'm glad it's discussed. That's been a big source of anxiety. I'll wait. I'm hoping to finish by Sunday.
The Komono part has me daunted but it's time for me to start somewhere. I'm going to go through stationary supplies tomorrow.
This kind of stuff is killer for me. H has little stashes of stuff all over the house and I can never find anything that I need. I'm sure we own four hammers, but I couldn't find one if my life depended on it.
I will say that our gift wrap is very organized. We have one box of ribbon, tape, tissue, balloons and gift bags and two rolls of paper. We try and buy neutral paper that can be used for different occasions. I also keep smaller gift items on hand like new playmobile figurines and a few children's books since birthday parties happen. It's so nice to just open the box and everything I need is in there.

GD wine glasses. We still have several unopened boxes from my bridal shower in my basement and my parents' basement.

I was banished to the bedroom earlier while H wrapped presents so I did a quick and dirty kon Mari of my clothes. I didn't follow all the rules since I clean out my clothes so often and I'm pretty light on clothes. I did get rid of stuff that I'd been hanging onto that wasn't bringing me joy, though.

So smart, gonna copy all of it!
Pro Tip- use a bankers box and wrap the lid and box in sturdy festive paper. During the Christmas season keep the box under the Christmas tree so it is easily accessible and you can wrap gifts as you buy them.
If you trade on the stock market you must keep the notices of purchases and sales. I know this because h had ten years worth of papers in a box and we had to sort through every danged one to find those suckers before we could shred the rest.
