pibblemom has me thinking: how quickly would dairy show up in your milk?
I've been unintentionally dairy free lately. I had about a third of a pint of ice cream yesterday and dd is a fussy mess today.
Paging ellabee because I think you did dairy free last time?
I limited my dairy last time, but never did a complete elimination. I think DD was sensitive to it, but not intolerant. For me, the effect was immediate - if I had a lot of dairy, DD would be super fussy and gassy that day.
When I was discussing it with my pedi and LC though they said if you need to completely eliminate dairy for an intolerance, it'll take up to a few weeks to completely get all the proteins out of your system.

Hmmmmmm interesting. Will have to keep an eye on it.

C has been nursing like crap lately, I have an LC appt on Thursday so I'm anxious to see what she says. Basically I know I'm producing enough milk bc I've been pumping at some feedings, so I don't think it's a supply issue. But she just won't stay latched sometimes and/or falls asleep at the breast and I can't get her back on. Motn feed was great on the first side, then when I switched her to the other side she nursed for a few mins then fell asleep, I kept trying but she wouldn't eat so I finally just put her down to sleep and she was fine. But I was paranoid about my supply so I pumped right after. I guess I'm worried too about her preferring the bottle over the breast but she does nurse great sometimes and like crap other times. And I'm so nervous about her eating enough that I'd rather give her a bottle than her be hungry and fighting to get her to nurse. I guess this is just kind of a rant, I'm just hoping she will just get better at nursing soon bc I really want to ebf for as long as I can. You get a cookie for reading my ramblings ;-)

Just survived the 3 week growth spurt. DD is 4 weeks, but was born at 39 weeks, so I'm assuming that's what her crazy amounts of nursing for the past 3 days can be attributed to. I'm really hoping she starts to sleep more than 2.5-3 hours at a stretch soon. We've been giving her a "bedtime" bottle around 9pm, so I at least get a nursing break from 7pmish until 11:30-midnight.
Question and I can make it a separate thread too. He long does everyone plan on nursing and/or pumping?
My initial goal was short, get to 3 months. If I get there successfully then I'd like to make it to 6 months. If I get there, then a year. I didn't make it past 5 months with DD1 so 6 months would be great.
Question and I can make it a separate thread too. He long does everyone plan on nursing and/or pumping?
My goal last time was a year. I made it to 14 months and had to wean due to the anti-nausea meds. I'd like to make it to a year again but always set small goals whenever the going gets tough or I'm so exhausted: 1 month, just one more day, etc. This time it's definitely more challenging with the toddler around.
I went back to work for a two month long term sub last time when ds was six months old. Pumping at work was not fun and towards the end I was definitely getting less. If I had to pump long term I think I would switch. I'm amazed that some of you pump for so long, great work!

Probably 15 months and will wean next early spring. I'd like for her to have BM over next winter. Of course, unless there are some major issues. She can't tolerate any dairy right now, but I'm hoping she's like DS and I can reintroduce around 9 or 10 mo. 15 mo of no traces of dairy and reading every label sounds boring food wise for me!
I made it a little longer than 14 months with DS and weaned because I knew I'd be starting IVF soon and the drs want you to have been weaned for 3 months.
I SAH and dh is gone at least 12 hours a day. He only sees the kids for about 30 min in the am. So, nursing is actually driven by laziness. I'll be doing all the feeds anyway, so why make and wash bottles? If I had to pump often or worked, I don't think I'd make it that long.

Does anyone else get nauseous while nursing? For me, it's worst during letdown. I remember this happening in the early months with DS. I really can't stand it. This morning it made me lightheaded too.

My goal is a year. I made it to 14 months with DD. We'll see how far I make it. In may peter out early this time around just because pumping 3x a day at work is disruptive and time consuming.

My first goal is a year. I nursed DS1 until 6 months before having to add some formula to supplement but then I nursed until I was over it at 18ish months. Since I'm having to work with this baby, I'm not sure if that will change my perspective about nursing foot that long.

I plan to take the same approach as I did with DD1.
I will EBF, with a few bottles of breastmilk fed by daddy until I go back to work at 12 weeks.
I will pump at work either until A is one. I will stop pumping early if I have enough breast milk stashed to send BM bottles to DC until her birthday.
At 1, we will transition to sippies of WCM at daycare. But I will.L continue to nurse on demand while at home.
I will say that pumping at work is easy for me because I can work while pumping, have a pump room at work, and a supportive manager and team. I can't imagine being a nurse, teacher, police officer, etc and trying to pump!
DD 1 nursed until 22/23 months, self-weaning very steadily. Though BFing got off to a rough start, when we got in our groove it was easy. Hopefully, A will be easy too.
I wouldn't mind if she weaned a tad earlier... But I'm leaving it up to her.
My goal is 6 months. I'm not sure how far well actually get because once work starts my schedule gets crazy and she will be with day care or grandmas a lot, but I really would like to make it work that long.

Me. I get a sick feeling right at letdown then it goes away. I could be starving right before nursing and then the thought of food is repulsive.
I don't feel sick while nursing but I have noticed that my toddler's crying can trigger a letdown...which is awesome given the increase in tantrums since the baby arrived.

My goal is one year and my stretch goal is two years.
I go back to work in May. With DS I could fit three pumping sessions in, but the workload has increased because they cut one of my staff a few months after I came back from his mat leave. I was still pumping 1x per day when he was 15 months.
I have a better freezer stash started but N is also drinking a lot more than DS did. I'm hoping I can keep up. I'm not opposed to adding some formula if she needs it but DS refused to take it at 9/10 months when my pump output dropped.
weeklyplanner I've been nauseated lately too, I remember this happening with DD too.
I'm not sure how long I plan on nursing. Last time I did 6 months, so I guess I hope at least that. I always thought I'd go longer but I just got to a point where I wasn't enjoying it as much anymore. So this time I'm taking it month by month.
W nursed to sleep for the first time since before we started EPing. He had already downed two bottles before bed and was rooting for more so I put him on the boob. His latch is definitely better oh my left side.
Anyone who had a TT/LT revision done, what did you do to help retrain LO to get a good latch. We've gotten a couple good ones, but then he reverts back. I'm calling the LC tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment next week but I'd like to try in my own in the meantime. I'd like to wean off bottles and start building a work stash as soon as I can.
When did you know that you have to have the revisions done? Did you see a pedi ent? I'm seeing a LC tomorrow and I think they're going to put a T/L tie revision on the table as a suggestion.

What was the procedure and recovery like?
The LC I saw when W was a little over 2 weeks old looked at him and said he had one. We had a consultation with a pediatric dentist, and got it done the next day. Procedure was quick, and recovery hasn't been bad. They did the laser cutting, so the scarring isn't as bad. W's tongue mobility is definitely improved, but we just have to reverse the bad habits he created before the procedure.

The pedi ENT was useless when we talked to them with DS. My LC thought she had one, there is a pedi dentist that specializes in them here. He uses scissors. He agreed that she had a tongue tie but didn't think the lip was tied even though she has a thick frenulum (her lips flange fine)
She was cranky that night and the next day but her tongue elevation is great now and her latch is better. We're still doing the stretches but it looked healed by two days later. Did not have to retrain with the LC but it took her some time to adjust

Oh, and I laid back in the dentist chair and laid N upright on my chest. I held her arms down. Dentist and assistant were ready to go. She helped position the head and he snipped. Use gauze to dab the blood after, then breastfeed right there to help calm down. It really only bleeds for five minutes or so. Don't wear your favorite outfits, they may drool blood while getting latched.

Oh, and she screamed and screamed afterward. It will break your heart and make you feel like a monster. But it's for their own good. And there are really no safe painkiller options They used to recommend OraGel but it's no longer suggested for tiny babies.
So the LC thinks the blister is being caused more by B clamping down to slow my forceful letdown than the tongue tie. B transferred 2.9oz in like 7 minutes from the "problem" side, then 1.6oz from the other. My chunk monster has been eating 4.5oz at each feeding...and sometimes more since I'm fuller at night. 😳 He also weighed in at 11lbs 2oz. That's 1 pound each week for 3 weeks straight.
We have orders to simulate letdown manually and then wait 2 minutes before nursing. Hopefully that will stop B from getting fire-hosed. And then with time he should be more comfortable with a deeper latch.
I'm still going to get the pediatric dentist to take a quick look at the lip tie, just to head off any dental issues down the road.
