So the LC thinks the blister is being caused more by B clamping down to slow my forceful letdown than the tongue tie. B transferred 2.9oz in like 7 minutes from the "problem" side, then 1.6oz from the other. My chunk monster has been eating 4.5oz at each feeding...and sometimes more since I'm fuller at night. 😳 He also weighed in at 11lbs 2oz. That's 1 pound each week for 3 weeks straight.
We have orders to simulate letdown manually and then wait 2 minutes before nursing. Hopefully that will stop B from getting fire-hosed. And then with time he should be more comfortable with a deeper latch.
I'm still going to get the pediatric dentist to take a quick look at the lip tie, just to head off any dental issues down the road.
Oh my goodness, this makes so much sense! Maybe this is why W still has nursing blisters!
I also got impatient and weighed W on my bathroom scale while he slept so he didn't move and he weighs 11.1 lbs. No wonder he feels like a sack of bricks.

I'm having such mixed feelings about nursing. On one hand, I love it. I call it my "mute button" since it fixes every problem for DD. But, at 5 weeks she has really woken up from that sleepy newborn stage and she literally won't sleep unless she's on my boob/in my arms or in the carseat I'm sitting here wondering how people get bottlefed babies to sleep and feeling trapped under this baby! In theory, cuddling up with a napping baby all day sounds nice, but 1) my personality is not one to sit all day and 2) I've got a toddler and shit to do.
Guess I'll attempt to put her down again and I assume she'll wake up screaming 3 min later...again!
PSA: amazon has a lightning deal on the medela harmony manual pump at 1 est. I can't remember who it was that said they really liked it.
This reminds me that I have this pump in my cabinet somewhere. I should really use it more often to get an extra ounce here or there. It's a great pump!
I'm so not into building a freezer stash this time around. Maybe it's because I SAH? I guess I don't have to stress about having enough for when I return to work? I should build a little stash though.

If you don't have to pump I wouldn't. However it is nice to have a little stash. I'm sure you could build up a decent little get-away stash in no time.

I love mine! It's all I've been using this time around. I haven't even taken out my electric one yet.
+1! I love it.
ETA on building a stash - I never really needed mine for work with #1 except that first day, but it definitely came in handy when we had a few weddings away and couldn't bring him along.
+2 on the medela harmony. I'm currently using mine right now to pump/nurse at the same time due to the milk blister situation. It's a great little pump and I like the flexibility of not having to whip out the double electric.
Re:milk stash, I have five 4oz bottles in the freezer and was so proud of that...but now I've just heard hat work expects me to go on a 3 day trip out of town the 3rd week I'm back to work. That would mean a minimum is 27 bottles to cover 9x a day feedings while I'm gone. I don't know how I'm going to build up that much in the time I have left without possibly creating an oversupply. Waaaah. 😩

I'm only building a stash because I have to go back to work and last time I couldn't pump enough each day for the next. Though my supply is much better this time.

ellabee, do you have a Milkies Milk Saver? I have about thirty 3-oz bags of milk in the freezer. About half of them are from using a manual pump. The other half are from the milk caught in my Milk Saver while nursing.
Also, solidarity. I think I'm going to have to go out of town for a week my 5th or 6th week back.

Yep! The bags I have frozen are pretty much all from the milk saver. I'd only been using it for 1-2 sessions in the motn, so I'm going to up my usage.

DD had her one month visit today-she's 5.5 weeks and 12 lbs. What a chunker! So I guess nursing is going well! She's so different from DS-it's amazing how different siblings can be.
Now, I just need to monitor my supply since I'm dieting/doing weight watchers. I assume I just make sure she doesn't seem hungry more often and keeps making wet diapers?

MOTN is good, but I get my biggest catch from my first morning session (I know you know this, but your milk supply is highest in the morning!)
So it seems that I went from too little of a letdown to an overactive one. W has been gulping a lot when he first latches on. I think some of it is also that he is just taking in more milk because of the better latch.

I've had this issue with DD and DS. It definitely gets better as they get older and bigger. They say a laid back nursing position helps, but I've never noticed that. I try to just have a burp cloth handy because she will pull off and milk goes spraying everywhere!
Has anybody weaned off of the nipple shield? I'd like to get there at some point but I'm not sure what I'm waiting for or when is a good time to give it a shot.
I did with DD1, I think around 2 months I started trying. I would have her latch on with it then try to get her to latch without after a few minutes. I want to say around 3 months it clicked for whatever reason and she just started taking my nipple without it. It was really frustrating TBH but did eventually work. The BF board had tips for me at the time, you might want to start a thread over there.
Ventured out of the house without a bottle for the first time since W was about a week old. Of course he's hungry, so I'm sitting in a fitting room at Target letting him nurse. I'm not quite confident enough with the baby wearing to nurse him in the carrier.

I never did get the hang of nursing in the carrier. Instead, I just always nursed before we left the house. It became routine-nurse, diaper change and then into the car seat. This typically bought me enough time to get a quick errand done. If I was out running multiple errands, I'd nurse in the car.
Yesterday I took DD to the pedi for her one month. So I nursed her before we left, then in the car after (which was about 2 hours from start times) and then we were off to pick up DS from nursery school.
Anyway, by using this "system" I found I rarely had to stop in the middle of a store or whatever to nurse.
weeklyplanner that is me exactly. I always force feed before we leave and am *usually* good. I have never figured out how to nurse while wearing. My (small) boobs are pretty stationary, so I think that makes it difficult.
