NICU like sucks! I hope Max's stay is short! Stay positive and as hard as it might be leaving and getting some fresh air was the best thing I could do for myself. Congrats to you and your family!

@krsthegirl the NICU is hard. There are plenty of us that lived through that before. One of the best times to go (if you're allowed) is late in the evening. It is quiet and almost peaceful in there. I loved to go after the evening shift change and just sit next to dd1 or rock with her when I could. The nurses would leave me alone. I hope you find some rest and peace tonight.
You can always vent here or privately to one of us who knows what it is like. So many hugs and prayers.
He's all tubed up with the oxygen stuff and has to be on his right side, so holding him is...I don't know if we're allowed. I'll definitely ask.
We did do skin to skin for an hour right after birth.
Ask, the worst they can say is not right now. If you cannot hold him just go and sit with him. Talk to him, sing to him, journal, cry, pump... Spend time with him like you would if he were not in the NICU. Let your presence be known to him. It helps.
So many hugs kristhegirl! Definitely ask to hold him and if not now, when? I guarantee those nurses want you to hold him as much as you do. Please be gentle with yourself, you've had quite the day. Even though it's not a surprise to you that it sucks having a baby in the NICU and having to pump, you're allowed to feel what you feel about it.
Wonders, Kris!! This was unexpected. Welcome to little Maxwell. Sending love to you both, and to your husband and E. I hope his NICU stay is short and uneventful. I can't imagine how hard it is but I'm sure he's in great hands until he can be in yours.

Congratulations on Max the boy! I hope he continues to improve and you are able to hold him as much as you want soon. Keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Love that you got to hold him again!!! Can't wait to see pictures of your little man. Sending lots of warm thoughts and prayers for a quick NICU stay. Have they said how long they anticipate him being there. Big hugs mama. You are doing great!

360blessings it depends on how well his lung expands and if his labs show any kind of infection. He's looking much less stressed, he was squeezing his eyes shut constantly which they said can be a sign that they don't feel well.
If his blood oxygen continues to be high as they wean him off the pump and no sign of infection, then he needs to get his breathing slower.
Basically could be today, or could be a couple of days.
