Lmao I think pigeons in Home Depot is decidedly a NYC problem? Maybe Toronto too. Pigeons ride the subway in Toronto.
We've definitely had them here. There's a mall near us too where there are always sparrows in the food court! laur I'm terrified of birds and would've done the same thing (and once had a total screaming meltdown in a parking lot when a moth flew into my hair). mamosey even in a cage I wouldn't want it too close! *shiver*
Also one time in the chapel at college there was a bat flying around. Someone managed to get it on video for posterity. youtu.be/CMDEMS4aQk0
And B is just fine! I'm so happy! And I'm really hopeful for what this means for the future of his dairy allergy.
That is awesome! It gives me more hope for DD even though that's ridiculous and it shouldn't. Have you been slowly introducing dairy since he turned one or what? Sorry, I don't know any other background about his allergy, just that you mentioned in another thread that he has one.
When he was about six months old I gave him cereal that had some milk content in it. We previously had no idea that he had an allergy, he just seemed to be barfier than A. Our pedi wasn't super concerned but we were going to run a few tests to see if there was an issue that was causing it. And then I gave him the cereal and within a minute his face swelled, his eyes got red and puffy and he couldn't stop rubbing them, and he broke out in hives all over his face and chest. And then he started vomiting like crazy. I got him all cleaned up while calling telehealth and watching closely and he recovered pretty quickly once it was all out of his system. I'm on WW so we had all of my foods already written down for months back, and we were able to track down pretty quickly that he was throwing up more often when I had something with more dairy (pizza, froyo, etc.). My pedi had me cut out dairy from my diet and while it took a few weeks to get all the protein out of my system, the change in him was instant. And if I accidentally had something with dairy (a cookie, for example, or even one of my favourite teas that has some milk product in it) he'd be sick for days. We had the allergy confirmed and a major allergen panel run when he was 8 months. (It should have happened sooner but they lose my referral. :/ )
The plan was to nurse to a year and then transition to soy or almond milk. Since we were sneaking up to it we thought it was worth seeing if he could handle breast milk if I ate dairy (his allergist was on board with this plan). We worked in small bits every day and waited for a reaction. Nothing! So I've been slowly increasing for the last week and a half or so and yesterday we decided to go for it - with a ton of pumped milk and soy formula on hand as a backup.
I'm really relieved. His reaction was so serious that we were concerned it would be one he wouldn't grow out of. My cousin's son presented the same way and is still incredibly allergic to dairy. I'm really excited for B right now, and glad that the pressure's off to stop nursing before we feel ready.
You know how there are always random pigeons in Home Depot?
You know how I hate birds?
One time in Home Depot I was carrying around a decorative planter of tulips browsing while H looked at something else. A pigeon swooped down and it's wing clipped my ear. I threw the tulips in the air, the planter exploded on the ground and then I started screaming. When H found me I was on my knees in shattered pottery pieces crying hysterically.
So... If I was on your flight they would have to call the air marshall and sedate me.
You live on LI right? DH family has a house in Breezy Point (close-ish to LI) and they have a massive problem in that area with Piping Plovers - now those birds are fucking bitches!
Really? Piping plovers are endangered, at least in MA. The big problem here is that every yer parts of the beach are closed because they have nests there and you're not allowed to go near them. And at least they're cute!
My BFF4eva went through a bird phase. We would go out for drinks and she would leave me at 30 min intervals to go check on her birds that she left in her car. She never went anywhere without them. It was strange.
That's... Not normal.
I know, it was especially fun for me to have to explain to the waiter why I was alone for half the evening. In her defense, she was in her early 20s and thought her calling was to be a bird whisper.

Morning ladies. Sorry about the teething woes everyone's going through. I would say we're in a lull for the moment, but every time I say something like that, whatever I have cautiously ruled out happens. So I shan't. (Beetlejuice!)
Can I work vent for a second? In my last four work hours, I have spent three hours in dumb meetings. Right now, our graphic designer is out for mat leave, and because I have a similar skill set, I'm doing her job in addition to mine for the next three months (minus one week). I don't have time to sit in meetings where everyone recounts their effing to-do list and rehashes a project that ended six effing months ago. CAN WE NOT?

My sister once had a bird fly in her open car window while she was driving down the road. It flew around and around and around her head and then crashed into the windshield until she pulled over and it flew out.

We got a pair of these on our beach last summer and they had to close off a huge section. Stupid birds.

A bird whisperer who leaves them in the car?
Lol
Does she have birds now?
Right?! No, thankfully she has moved on from birds.
carissalynp I know where you went to school, and I almost went there, and now I'm so glad I did not.
Sophomore & junior year I lived in the basement of one of the dorms because they had a "townhouse" floor there- bigger rooms, private bathrooms. But... they attracted wildlife. chipmunks, squirrels, bats... omg.
laur they're attracted to me too. I think they can smell the fear and sense our weakness.
Does anyone have any experience with buying a plot of land and building a house on it?
We didn't do this but I worked in land development/residential building for several years. Feel free to PM me if you have questions that I may be able to assist with.
Well now I feel like a bad mom. DH said that since I was home anyway, I might as well take LO to the doc and get a note saying she was ok to go back to daycare tomorrow. So I went, and the kid has an ear infection The pedi did say that she understood why I didn't take her in until now. She said that most kids' temperatures will range from 97-99.9 on any given day. And she wasn't showing any signs of an infection. Most days she is clingy for at least half the day, so it seemed normal to me. If daycare hadn't said she couldn't come in today, I would have never taken her. Ugh. Now I really need sushi. And wine. And froyo.
1. Sewing is very doable! (This is so four hours ago...) I second diaryofaquilter.com that's how I learned to quilt. I'm so excited that so many are getting into sewing. #nerd 2. DH makes amazing crepes. It's one of the reasons I married him. 3. I need to stop acting like I have the time to read and catch up on here when I'm still in my pajamas and need to leave in ten minutes.

If they have no symptoms, you can't beat yourself up. I bet she'd have popped a real fever soon and you'd have known.
I'd still talk to daycare because that's a really unclear fever and it's reachable on a perfectly healthy day.

You're not a bad mom! This could have happened to anyone! Ear infections are hard to pinpoint. ((hugs))
--I love sewing. It's really not too hard and pretty easy to teach yourself. I only assisted DH making something for the Renaissance Faire and he did a pretty good job on it. --I want delicious food now. --My daycare is has a pretty detailed policy about sickness and are good about taking temps if necessary and calling. The cutoff is 101.something. DS2 randomly runs a 100 degree temp (either that, or their thermometer is messed up) and they just tell me at the end of the day.
utpony you're not a bad mom, I'm sorry she has an EI. Were they able to give meds?
Yeah, she got a prescription for something that begins with a c. Standard is amoxicillin, but she had it recently so that was a no go. And whatever they prescribed her, I was told it would give her red poop. Disturbing...

shellbell the public districts in my state still offer it in middle and high school. Except now it's called family and consumer sciences. A friend of ours in college actually got a teaching degree in it, and now she's a FACS teacher in her home district.
