Don't like: trendeigh names from most all generations, especially early 80's. Cutesty names that are unable to grow with the child. Dr. Skylie Smith... nope, nope, nope. Sorry, don't take an adult "Skylie" seriously. And names with made up or ukneeque spellings are just ridiculously sad.
I still don't like the name I was given, which is why I don't use it, and will change it in the future (I'm a procrastinator). It's too girly-pretty, like little girl cute. Not a grown-up name. What were you thinking, mama!?
My kids' names pass the Supreme Court Justice test. This was/is very important. It has to look good on a business card or with credentials next to it.
If we have another and it's a boy he'll be Theodore Westley (or Walter) Corgiat (family name). I have been reserving Theodore for many years, and had LO been a boy he would have been named Theodore. Westley from The Princess Bride and Walter from Breaking Bad and Fringe (H and I are total geeks).
For a girl, I'm still stuck on Gwendolyn Yvette (mom's middle) ________. (my kids get two middle names) Running out of solid family names. lol
I will say I am totally down for funny middle names. Like my bff is naming her kid a very old beautiful name but with Darth as the middle name becAuse they are huge Star Wars geeks.
things, having a name Mini KJ would be taken seriously with was important to me too. I try to think about what would happen if my child applied to a job with some of these names at the top. People say "well their name shouldn't matter if they're the best fit!" and they're right, but that's not how the world works. If you're looking for your next marketing director or CEO, you're looking for someone with a name a bit more professional sounding than some of what's out there.
That's not important to everyone, and I get that. That's cool. I went with a name for LO which I thought was timeless and elegant (Eleanor) but could also have cuter nicknames (some people call her Ellie, we call her Elle).
I also wish people would stop using traditionally male names as female names only because it's SO HARD to find a good boy name already, stop making it harder!
I'm with you. I adore Eleanor. Ruby's first middle was Eleanor until I changed it to Matilda. But you just reminded me of the awesomeness that is Eleanor. I Gwendolyn Eleanor Yvette. I also love Genevieve. Ds1 would have been Genevieve.

Wilhelmina Mae is pretty independent of everything else out there, so the husbear and I are more concerned about names that work with our last name. Sounds like "Boot Pail" and is even two separate words, no hyphen. (His parents were 15 and 18. They clearly had no idea what they were doing, using BOTH of their names...)
Marion Diane is actually the front runner for a girl. Marion has been in my family as a girl's name several times wayyy back on two sides of the family tree, and Diane is my mom's middle name.
Garrett Wayne is our boy name. Hubby picked Garrett (he also picked Mina's entire name!) And Wayne is my late grandfather's middle name.
Clearly we are of the recycling variety. lol
I generally dislike trendy names, and that perfectly good names are ruined by the sheer masses. My cousin named her kids Izabella and Jackson. Charming names out of context, but the poor things have been beat into the ground. Noah is another family name, but it's sadly overused, too.
Our boy list is short because we can't come up with any we like: Felix or Sebastian.
Our girl list is also short: Genevieve or Beatrix. People hate Beatrix and that's cool, but we like it.
No idea on middle names. We aren't even TTC until the end of 2016 at the earliest, so we haven't even discussed names since we decided on DD1's.
I love Beatrix!! We're pretty sure we're one and done, but we still talk about baby names (is that weird?). I always tell DH that if we have a girl, we should name her Beatrix and call her Trixie and then we have a Tripp & a Trixie because how cute is that?! But DH says Trixie is a stripper name, and as I type this I realize he's not entirely wrong. Sigh.
If we ever have a girl she will be named Sadie after my great grandmother.
The plan for DS's middle name was originally Emerson, but we chose a family name instead. I am trying to convince DH to add Emerson to the first name list, but he isn't a fan.
ETA in general I love old fashioned names, which seem to be a new trend.

I love Emerson as a boys name ! I wish people would quit naming their girls that.

I have never encountered a girl Emerson, how strange.

I've known two girl Emerson's. It could be regional. I sort of feel that way about Peyton. I grew up knowing a few boy Peyton's, and so it has always struck me as strange that people give their girls that name.
@katylou91 i love Layla. Its to close sounding to my name (Mikayla) for us to use tho, it soubds pretty with grace.
nolanova85 Trixie is the name of the stripper/prostitute that gets around my town
im with things and Miss Killjoy that the names have to sound professional and look good on a resume. In saying that tho there were a few cutesy name i like but i doubt i would use them. Lacey for example.
We chose Scarlett for DD and everyone always says "oh like Scarlett Oheara?" To be honest i dont even know who that is. It was one of the only names SO and i agreed on. Gabriella was our 2nd option, i liked Brie and Briella as nicknames.
One of those names is my name And it's not Trixie lol.

LO is Thomas after his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. We call him Tommy which I just love for a little boy. We were team green but knew that was our boy name from the start. If we have another boy it will likely be John after my father. This time my pick for a girl was Cora and DH's was Molly. We were still debating this in the delivery room. I think I would be ok with either if we have a DD some day. I also like Irene after my grandmother or Sabina, a family name of my DH. My original girl name was Lillian for years and years but DH's cousin named her DD that when we were TTC.
I love a good, classic name. I also love when people have a little fun with the middle name and incorporate something with personal meaning like a family name (what we did with our kids), interest, favorite character or place. I agree with things in that it has to be a name that will transition well into adulthood and look good on a business card/graduation announcement/wedding invitation. I also don't care for unisex names at all.
Some fav boy names: Henry, Samuel, Luke, James, Eli, Nathaniel, William
Some Fav girl names: Charlotte (although way too popular now), Caroline, Elise/Elizabeth, Adelaide, Violet, Georgia, Lucy and Magnolia.

I've mentioned before that I wish sometimes that we would have had Evangeline as LO's first name instead of middle, because the more I say it and spell it out the more I'm in love with it. Yes, I realize Sunny (as a female name) does not pass the professionalism test, but I'm cool with that. If she wants to go by her middle name as an adult to sound more serious, I'm totally cool with that. And if she turns out to be an old hippie, her first name has got her covered!
I hate it when people go with a string of "unique" but actually super trendy names that rhyme for all of their kids. For example- Mason, Caysen, Grayson. Also, the first time I heard the name Neveah I thought it was so pretty and asked what it meant and the girl said "it's heaven spelled backwards teehee!" And I was like "Um, NO IT FUCKING ISN'T" so yeah, hate that one too chicorojo.
As of now DH and I say we're done, but that may change in like 5-10 years. If so, I really want a boy because there are a few boy names I absolutely love: 1. Phoenix 2. Elijah 3. Harrison (for George Harrison, my favorite Beatle) 4. Sawyer (@kelsz12 just reminded me, tbh I mostly love it because of Lost)
One of those names is my name And it's not Trixie lol.
Gabriella ? It's so pretty !
Thanks! I absolutely hated it when I was a kid, because people for some reason mispronounce it GABE-riella all the time. I've only started going by it for a few years now.

There are officially at least 3 Thomas D14 babies that I can think of. Mine, yours, and kookooma.
One of the D14 moms from TB named her daughter Emerson.
I remember I said it was a boys name and she said she was sick of hearing that that it was clearly a girls name lol. After the child has the name I won't say anything negative about it to the person though.

Hates - pretty much everything that has been said here. No unique spellings, no trendy names, no boy names on girls or trying to pawn them off as unisex, no made up names, no cutesy names that people won't take seriously (especially for girls).
Likes - Names that pass the professional test (President, Lawyer, Doctor, Scientist etc.) Classic but uncommon names, names that can be pronounced easily in English and Spanish. DH refused to pick a boy or girl name in the top 200. I also look into the meaning of names so it's important to me for them to have positive meanings.
We started with the middle name Edward (after my father), DH came up with Idris - Classic but very uncommon, sounds the same in English and Spanish. Idris means fiery leader, Edward means wealthy guardian. It took us forever to come up with a boy name so I have no idea what we would do if we had another boy. Runner up was Xavier (pronounced zay vee er not egg zay vee er) Edward.
If we have a girl her name will be Evangeline Felicity. Evangeline honors my grandmother, Eva, and also combines elements of DH's name and my name without being made up. I also love the meaning, "bringer of good news". Felicity was DH's grandmother who recently passed and it means "happiness." Meets all of our aforementioned criteria.
