I didn't want to put this in the complaint/venting thread because it's definitely NOT a complaint... I heard the baby's heartbeat on my Doppler for the first time a few minutes ago! That little thump thump makes me so happy.
I've been working up the nerve to tell my boss about the pregnancy next Friday after my appointment and realized today that he's leaving for three weeks of business trips/vacation this Friday. So that buys me an extra two weeks, but now I'm nervous about others catching on before he gets back.

Yay! I keep trying to convince DH I need a Doppler. He hasn't gone for it so far.

Everyone that knows (or random people I tell like the hair stylist I went to this weekend, because she don't know me) thinks it's a boy. "Intuition" they say.
Then my coworker just said - I think I can see your little bump. She means well and I love her... she's one of only 2 people that knows at work, but I was like... "no it's just bloat and constipation!"

I bought mine during my last pregnancy without telling DH first. Easier to ask forgiveness than for permission. And it was only $40 so not a huge expense.

Remind me - at what point is it pretty fool proof to find the hb via Doppler? I might get one after my next appointment, but I want to see how they use it first.
You're probably good now, lemoncupcake. I bought mine at 14 weeks last pregnancy and found it right away. I'm 10w4d today and just found it without too much searching.

I tried mine last night and couldn't find it (10w). I've been advised to wait until you hear it with the doctor first, otherwise you'll drive yourself crazy.
I clearly don't follow my own advice (but it hasn't bothered me, either).
I think DH thought mine was a sex toy. His curiosity quickly waned when he learned.
I found the heartbeat with my doppler a week ago. I tried again the other day and caught it right away for a few seconds and couldn't find it after that. And couldn't find it today for the life of me. Gah! I'm 10w4d. It is sort of driving me nuts, it's hard not to let it, but I'm trying to be patient. With DS once I found it I basically could always find it.

I can't seem to calm my PgAL brain this morning... I was literally in tears when I read virginiaorjohn's loss announcement yesterday. My doppler can't get here soon enough. It looks like it will be delivered tomorrow, which is nice since my appointment isn't until Thursday afternoon.
Also, I had a dream last night that the deuce is a boy and he was born with a crazy amount of hair (think 80s glam rock) and we had to immediately give him a haircut.

Sorry you are having a hard time today. Sending you calm and confident vibes! Hope the Doppler brings you reassurance.
+1 for loving my Doppler I found the heartbeat at 9wks 2 days. It took a little trying the first time. You have to push harder than you would think at first. After a couple times I can find it pretty fast now! Although actually this morning it took 5 minutes...
SubtleGrandeur big ((hugs)). Some days suck. Also, I had that same dream when I was pregnant with DS! It was so vivid that I half expected him to be born that way.... He wasn't. Bald as could be
I pulled out my maternity shorts the other day to wash. I only have a few pairs of shorts and while I don't have a bump I also don't want to buy shorts that aren't maternity since it's already mid July.
After dd was born I had to buy several new pairs of jeans because my hips were still so big, and then had to buy more when they eventually shrunk.
And then I got to thinking I'm going to need a maternity winter coat. Mine was snug after just a few months, but thankfully it was getting warmer out and I didn't need it. I have to have a coat. It's Michigan.

kelle017 I feel you on the winter coat. Canadian winters are no joke. I cant make it to February without one. I am seeing a friend who gave birth last January and I'm sort of hoping I can steal hers for a few months.
I just ate one of those awful egg/bacon/cheese/bagel breakfast things. OMG. I feel extremely guilty, but holy shit did that hit the spot.

I was thinking about this the other day. I'm in Wisconsin.. Winter coat is needed well before February. I guess I don't know because I've never had to look before, but do they make actual maternity winter coats, or do you just buy a bigger size to accommodate the belly? (This sounds like a really stupid question, I'm aware..)

There are actual maternity coats out there, it depends on your budget I guess too. There has also been a new thing coming out (here anyways) its a zip insert for your coat to expand it.

I briefly looked yesterday and couldn't find a maternity winter coat. All Motherhood had was lightweight fall jackets that would be a joke here in Michigan it might just be too early and they're not carrying them yet though.

Honestly I have a really good coat, and for the extra $60 I'm probably going to buy the extender. But I know some people who just use their husbands coats. its sort of impossible for me when we have 10 inches difference, and I need to look quasi-professional at work and not look like a little kid in a parents coat.

Last pregnancy I was due in November so I wore a maternity coat for a couple of months. I got mine from motherhood, pea coat style, for around $50. I'm guessing if you wait a couple of months they will start coming out with their winter stock.
Those of you who have a Doppler, would you recommend a certain brand? I have a five week wait between my first and second appointment and I would really like some reassurance before then.
I have the Sonoline B. And just an update from my post last night, I checked again today and did find the heartbeat again! I found it a week ago and when I tried the other day I haven't been able to find it. This little baby is either really nestled in there, a super mover, or just plain old difficult and stubborn. Even though I found it today, it was for about 5 seconds and gone.
The other thing that I'm surprised by, is that I've found it rather high. It's been at least halfway up to my belly button between my belly button and my pubic hair line. With DS I found him so low by my hair line this early, and this one is way up there. No wonder I feel like my belly is ginormous already.

Red wine is the only thing I really truly miss so far. I'm excited for 2nd tri when I won't feel too guilty indulging in the smallest of glasses on rare occasions.
