Anyone else already thinking about first birthday ideas? I ran into a mom while shopping a few weeks ago and she was grabbing stuff for her 10 month olds first birthday. She started planning around 6 months and we got to talking about themes and now I have found myself putting together ideas in my head!
Are you planning on a party for LO? If so will you have a theme or just normal birthday decorations??
I have been thinking about this for awhile! H works every other weekend and they do shift picks twice a year and he could potentially switch shifts/off weekends March 1st and then again on September 1st; DS's birthday is the 29th of August.
It looks like he will be working on that day so I don't know when we will have the party. H's nephew turns 3 on the 23rd and FFIL's birthday is the 24th and they usually do a combined party. Call me a brat but I do NOT want to celebrate them all together. I want DS to have his own party. Not that we are doing anything crazy, but I want to be able to do whatever we want and invite who we want. :insert foot stomping here:
Yes I started planning DD's party when she was 6 months old and have already been pinning ideas for DS's party. For DD, we did a strawberry theme. It was an open-house in the morning so we served brunch food and mimosas. For DS, I'm going to a milk and cookies theme. I made all the food and most of the decorations for DD's party and will do the same for DS.
Nope, you're not the only one. I'm pretty pumped about it actually lol. We're throwing a big BBQ. For decorations we'll probably just do pink chevron for colors, so not really a theme. I've already been looking at cakes and trying to find a little party dress for her. I'm way too excited about it, but I believe we're OAD, so this may be the only 1st birthday I ever throw.
Ok this is the second time today I've read that you are OAD. I'm totally being nosey, but how and when did you decide this? I'm so indecisive about everything in life. I couldn't imagine making this decision.
RE bday party. Yes and no. We want to do something. DH wants a huge bbq, but I'm worried it will be 100 degrees out. I'd be ok with immediate family, which would be about 15 people. I'm hoping LO likes something by then, so we can pick up decorations at the party store. (Mickey, etc.). DH will probably win with the big bbq because he works so much and rarely sees DS. I don't want to deny him this experience.
I haven't started planning anything yet but we will probably do it at my parent's house because they live on a lake and it will be perfect for a summer birthday. Then we can have a big BBQ and not be cooped up in our tiny house.
I can't decide if I want to have a big party or just invite the grandparents to visit. Pre-baby I went to a few one year old birthday parties and the baby just ended up overwhelmed and crying. I think I will probably wait until the summer to see what her temperament is around big groups of adults. We've only had one experience (Thanksgiving) and it was not good.

Same here. We will definitely do family but I can't decide about friends. Our best friends little girl had a huge party and she loved it. I think I will also have to see how her personality develops. We went to a family birthday last weekend and she was okay for an hour but then was too over stimulated.

Last year zulily had some Hello Kitty party stuff really cheap, so I bought it. I was going to use it for DD1, but I think I'll let DD1 choose her birthday theme and use them for DD2.
I have defintiely been thinking about it...I am thinking maybe a superhero theme so DS can have a birthday cape or a nautical theme. His nursery is nautical though so that maybe over played. Decisions, decisions...defintely going to do a BBQ. I am also most likely OAD like @addysmama22 so I will probably go a little over the top for my little guy.

I am beyond excited haha! We are going to have it at the neighborhood park(: just family so there will be like 30 or so people. Of course it'll be a BBQ! We don't have a theme yet but I'm not really a big theme person so we'll probably decide that closer to the day if DS finds something he takes a liking to.

My mom just told me the other day that the birthday party will be at her house and it will be a cookout. While that sounds great, my in laws are going to be thrilled that I decided to have the party an hour away from them. My parents house is great for entertaining though so I have a hard time not taking my mom up on the offer!

It actually occurred to me as I went past my due date that the baby's birthday weekend will always be Labor Day Weekend, which is cool. That thought popped into my head the other day. I think it's because I'm over winter and would really dig a late summer BBQ though.
I know I don't want to do a little kid theme like star wars, hello kitty, or whatever. She'll be too young to remember this birthday anyway, so I might just pick a color scheme or something easy and save the character themed parties for when she's old enough for interests.
We might invite a lot of people to her first birthday, and just close family after that. The first one is a big deal though. It's like "Hey! I had a kid and I survived the first year without committing homicide". (Is that a party theme?)

I just decided on the theme but have no clue as far as where and how many ppl yet.
It can get super hot here so we'll see, also my mom wants it in her city so her friends can come... Yeah we had this problem for the baby shower and I ended up with two... I hope drama doesn't come from this, DS is not having two bday parties! Anyway I was thinking an Eric carle animal theme! The colors are great and it will be like a "zoo" theme. I just got super excited!

I was just thinking an Eric Carle theme would be cute! We'll probably try to have the party in our backyard or at the park/beach down the road from our house.
I am totally anti-social so birthdays here are usually just immediate family and maybe grandparents. We have our own little traditions from DD1 and I think we'll continue them with LO even though she won't know or care this year. But I have to say, planning a hypothetical first birthday with the decorations and food and everything sounds like fun now that I'm reading all these cute ideas. Still not fun enough to get me to invite over a ton of people but I'm having fun picking out a theme in my head for her hypothetical party.

Not really. I don't like theme parties and I don't like big parties for kids. Sooooo...it will probably be simple and cute - just a few family members.
My husband gave me grief the other day because I was pinning ideas for Z's first birthday. Of course I was also coming up with ideas for C's 3rd. So there's that. LP doesn't want a birthday party, so he's taking away my fun. Darn kid.
I've thought about it but just get stressed. I work in education and don't get year round salary. Needless to say trying to plan a big party at the end of the summer is already making me nervous!

That stressed me out when teaching too. I started taking chunks out of my tax return each year and setting them aside for those summer expenses because otherwise it gave me panic attacks. I missed working in a district with year-round salary!

When I was about 7 years old my parents said to me "When we throw you a birthday party it costs us $100. Would you like to have a birthday party, or would you like to have $100?"
