Okay lucanjo14, regarding fussiness at the breast, she may be squirmy because the letdown is slower on that side or because the supply is lower and she prefers to nurser on the easier side.
Paging hurricanerek or other experienced breastfeeders- DD nurses way better on my right side; and lately on my left side she's gotten really squirmy and I don't hear her gulping as much. I'm pretty sure my supply dropped some on that side but I know there is still milk there because when I squeeze I can still get milk and when i nurse her on the right I still had milk drip from the left when I left my top off. So I'm thinking she's squirming because it's not coming fast enough? Is there anything I can do about this or will she always be squirmy on the "dud side"? (Sorry so long)
It could be that it is coming out too fast. I had a fast letdown with Hannah on one side and she never wanted to feed on that side. You can try lay back breastfeeding just to rule it out

My left side is my dumb side too. My letdown is very forceful, he'll choke and spit almost every time. I had that with C too and it evened itself out after a couple months. If it's not coming fast enough maybe do warm compresses on that side before you start a session to see if they will increase the flow.
My left side is lame, too. Takes longer to let down, and makes less milk. I would try starting on your left side for all feeds for a couple days to see if you can get it evened out.

I think my left side was my good side. I can't remember, now. But, I would seriously pump like twice as much from that side as the right. DD liked my right side when she was tiny bc it was a more normal flow, where my left side was crazy fast until she drank a ton from it. I always block fed and did one side at a time, bc I had a bit of an oversupply issue. Eventually they evened out a bit even though lefty was always ahead.
I think I remember if you don't block feed and feed on each side each time that you can start with the fast flow one and then once they get past the letdown it should be a more normal flow which you can then switch to the more normal flow of the other side? But you have to be REALLY careful bc if they don't drink enough from the 2nd side you'll just keep making less milk.
Just make sure you nurse a good amount with the dud side so it signals your body to make more on that side.
Man, what is it with left sides!? It's always been my lame side as well. Do we think there is correlation between right-hand and right-boob dominance? Can any lefties among us disprove the theory?

I was thinking this. I'm right handed and the right one is the good one.
Lefty was good for the first 6 months. She was a sprayer. Then righty came back to life after our first STTN, no nursing night. They were pretty much even after that until he weaned at 18 months.

Little man. Why do you choose tonight to be loud and not go back to sleep right after your feeding? Now we are on the couch because your dad starts his new job in the morning and needs rest.
I had a whole long post typed about how abysmal the pumping at work situation was for me today but realized it's just a lot to explain/read. So basically, it's pretty much impossible to take a break and pump when I actually need to timing-wise. I have to pump in a gross shower room, but today it was locked so I pumped in the charge nurse office. I think I pumping at work is going to be a serious challenge and so stressful. Ugh. Sorry for venting.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Is going to your car to pump feasible? I know your employer has to provide you a place, but if you'd be more comfortable, it may be worth a shot.
lucanjo14 can you arrange it at the beginning of your shifts? Is there anyone else pumping that you can agree to take their patients while they pump and vise versa? I know in the ER things are crazy so I'm not sure if that's even possible. Also- does post partum or peds have a lactation room??

I think little dude is officially sttn now. I was scared to get excited last week but he did it again last night. His normal time is between 12-12:30 through 7:30-8 or 1-1:30 to 8:15-8:50. He has done it pretty much everyday for a full 7 days now. I just hope it continues!

that's awesome!!
Yes! Now if only I can get my ass to bed close to when we get him down I'll be golden :-D
Can we talk birth control? Does anyone use Paragard? Mirena?
I used Mirena after DS. I liked that I didn't have to think about anything, but after I took it out, I realized that it was really killing my sex drive (thought it was just post baby not drug issue) and I was so dry all the time, sex was painful. I didn't have any issues with breastfeeding and didn't have issues getting pregnant after it came out. Not sure if we will use it after #2 or not though. If I knew we were done having kids, I'd rather DH go under the kinfe.
isolemnlyswear, I'm surprised to see you ask the question, but I've had mirena since about 2 months PP. It's been great, I haven't had any periods, but I have had lots of random spotting, so that can be frustrating.

I had this too. It wasn't exactly random...it usually happened about every two weeks and I barely needed a panty liner. I figured it was ovulation bleeding and period bleeding, but don't quote me.

DH has come ALONG way he sees how much work 2u2 is and does not want 3u3
We aren't 100% sure about having a 3rd so I want to leave the option open. I do not want to chart and boo on condoms. I had a bad reaction to pills (headaches, nausea, extreme exhaustion) so at my appointment today my dr recommended either IUD.
isolemnlyswear I've had 2 paraguards now and been happy with both. The first I had for 6-7 yrs and the second just under a year since we decided to try for a second a lot soon than we thought. It's a great option if you're looking for something with no hormones and that you don't have to think about.
Is the monthly string check as easy as the pamphlet says?

Any weight gain issues? I've seen that on a lot of forums with Mirena
