I don't get why Nationwide would think that commercial would earn them customers. Like do they really care about preventable deaths so much that they just had to put that disturbing commercial out there to wake people up, no. So what was the goal?

Good point. They could've directed people to a website that had a list of accident prevention tips. Some sort of call to action/education.
