Our sleep training has completely fallen off the rails with his 2 teeth coming in. He's waking up every 2 hours if that. He's in the swing in the nursery so I'm proud we're not bringing him to bed but man are we tired. We were going to try a stationary swing for naps this weekend but instead we'll be doing construction so who knows. I'm just really exhausted.
A quick Google shows that around 6 months it is normal to only have 2 naps.
I'm not happy about this.
That's interesting. I really don't think she is ready for two naps though. I struggle to even make it two hours of awake time before naps. If we push it to closer to three hours she gets verrrrry cranky. I can't imagine her going from 1- almost seven without sleeping. Right now she naps from about 8:30- 10 and noon to one. For her first two naps

That is roughly our nap schedule too. I try to make something happen around 3 but it almost never works, and she doesn't seem to be doing her late afternoon nap for daycare any more either. She is definitely cranky and miserable after about 2 hours awake, so I thought she needed a nap? Maybe I need to shift hey earlier naps later and further apart? I really don't know! Just sharing what the internet says are "normal" sleep schedules. For whatever that is worth!

I know I have read that the first two naps are the most important developmentally and that the third nap just functions to get the baby to bedtime without becoming overtired, so that helps me not stress as much if her third one is a mess.

That is good to know! That third nap is so important to my sanity, haha.

We're in an awkward still needs a third nap but it's a struggle logistically. DS naps 9:30-11, 1:30-3, and we usually try to have him sleep a 3rd nap starting at 4:30 otherwise he's cranky before bedtime at 6:45-7. He's not ready to go 3 until bedtime but with supper time and bed routine it makes it a struggle. I look forward to pushing the second nap later and only 2 naps.
We're in the same needs three naps but it's hard to make the third nap happen camp. She is truthfully crabby after being up 90 minutes sometimes. DD1 was on a 2-3-4 schedule (hours awake before the next sleep time) at 6 months and did really well. There is no way in hell T could manage that.
W cam only be up for about 90 minutes too. It makes running errands and dr appointments super interesting. Last night we put W in a stationary swing. He was able to put himself to sleep but woke up about 6 times throughout the night. I'm going to try it for naps today. As of right now he's yelling in the nursery. Not crying just practicing his velocoraptor call.

Ava does the screeching too. We had a rough morning of screaming...in my arms, on the bed with me, in her crib. When I finally gave up on the nap and brought her downstairs, I felt her cheeks for tears and they were completely dry. So she wasn't crying, just screaming. Which kind of made me feel better.

Oh yeah well watch w on the monitor and see him calm himself down and then just scream. It sounds awful but he does it in our arms too when we try to put him to sleep. It's his "you can't tell me what to do" yell.
It's been every 50 minutes now which sucks but I know he's just getting used to a completely different space. The only flat surfaces that he has slept on before this were in bed with me or an arms reach cosleeper right next to me. These hard ass crib mattresses are a whole different animal. H and I are taking turns comforting him. Thankfully it's the weekend.
So I just did my first ever dream feed. It's nerve-wracking to wake a sleeping baby to feed them and hope they go right back to sleep.
I had a call with a sleep expert today and we're going to try to get one to two extra hours of sleep at night from A, and 3 consistent naps longer than the 35 minute ones she's been taking. It was a bunch of info to process but I took copious notes. Now to get MH on board...
That's fantastic! RandomName I'm 80% happy for you and only 20% jealous
We seem to be regressing. We were doing sooo well. Over an hour naps, only waking up twice to feed at night, calming down really quickly when we put her down. Now we are back to super short naps, waking up ever hour or two at night, scream fests. I have no idea what has changed so I can fix it. Two steps forward, one step back? I'm ready to go forward again.
zonagirl Sleep training my DS is like you said: two steps forward and one back.
I read a great article that describes this well. It's describes sleep training as a method for getting rid of undesirable behaviour (waking lots and wanting food when not needed). The training diminishes the undesired behaviour slowly over time and the set backs are when the original behaviour suddenly comes back. Each time it comes back, it will be less and less severe until it stops coming back alltogether. It is describes it as a sign the training is working. I'll try and find the article, but it was deep in a late night spiral of "what is wrong with my baby" on Google so it may be a challenge lol.
zonagirl is she teething? When W was cutting teeth his sleep went to crap and we regressed to all the old behaviors. Also, is anything in the schedule different? Are you tracking naps and sleep times?

I don't think she is teething. I think it may be related to my diet. I noticed the change in her sleep about 12 hours after I had dinner with cheese in it for the first time since I moved her from crib to rnp. I am going to go on a super strict diet today and see if that helps. In the meantime, we are going to go buy a crib wedge.
Last night and now tonight have been big steps back. He wakes every 2 hours again and screams. Doesn't cry, won't nurse, just wants to scream. It lasts about 10 mins and then he's out again. Unless of course if I go in then it will last much longer. This is new.

I really don't have any advice, I just feel you. Tonight has been amazing, but I think that is because of our shots. The last several nights have sounded like this. What I don't understand is that she goes dii awake and happy when we first put her down. So it isn't like she is waking in an unfamiliar environment. I think for us it may be reflux related. I don't think you guys struggle with this, though?
W does this too (he did it last night in fact) but it's due to his teeth coming through. He's in pain so he wakes up, screams, I usually nurse him (teething has totally screwed up sleep training) and then he'll fall back asleep. I think it's as the sleep cycle starts to shift so he wakes up a little anyway and then says "hey I'm in pain (hence screaming)" and then goes back to sleep. For us it's about every hour or so. He also does this if his temp is wrong (too cold usually). Fun times trying to figure out why the person who doesn't talk is now screaming like a banshee. Hope you got some sleep.
aydee DS goes down happy too! He'll even put his head down and fall asleep on his own to start the night. We did do reflux meds for about 2 months stopping when he was about 5 months. All the reflux symptoms went away around then. I don't see any symptoms now. I'm glad you had a great night! Shots have always agreed with my kids and made them sleepy and cuddly.
packmomma no signs of teeth yet. No redness, no extra slobber, no fussiness. Maybe he just needs to scream. When he does this he doesn't open his eyes so I'm not even convinced he's even awake? Our night got better around 2:30 when he slept until 6:30. I'm going to try prunes today and cut back on oat cereal. After reading the feeding thread about oatmeal cereal maybe the screaming it's poop related. I think it's like you said, between sleep cycles he wakes a bit.

Ooh maybe it's gas then. W gets super gassy and it can be painful. We usually massage his belly clockwise and do lots of bicycling with his legs before he goes to bed.
packmomma tmi but he had a huge HUGE poop this morning and then napped for almost 3 hours! I bet it was gas the past two nights. MOTY over here...
It's only because W poops every 6 days or so that I know this. He gets so uncomfortable towards the last day or so (and lately he's been going longer in between). I would much rather have a baby who pooped every day than one who gets so uncomfortable he cries in his sleep. It took us a lot of trial and error to figure out it was the gas (and a lot of farting).
packmomma my baby only poops once a week or so too. It's such a drag! Although she seems ok with it. I'm on the fence about starting sleep training right now. I was hoping to wait for her bottom teeth to come through bc they are close but we were sick the last few weeks and I reverted to rock n play and swaddle and now she won't sleep in the crib or without a pacifier. Have there been any folks on here that regret starting their sleep training or would everyone advocate to go for it?
