DS has decided that sleep is for the weak. He didn't take much in the way of naps all weekend and then last night was up and down ALL night long. To the point that at 3 a.m., I turned to my husband and said, "Why are we having more kids?"

I love him to death and I'm thrilled to have more, but seriously kid, MOM NEEDS SLEEP.

Fingers crossed he naps at daycare and gets back on his regular schedule.

So excited to get my coparent back today! Dh arrives super late tonight. I'm trying to take Thurs and Frid off work so we can hang out. And he'll be able to go with me to my next appt.

kaydee0402, my DS didn't regularly sleep through the night until he was over 2. My husband I legit thought we were going to go insane and were terrible parents and could not fathom how anyone could have more than one kid and then once he started sleeping better we were like "Ohhhhh..." He is still a terrible sleeper and up at least twice a week asking for water, needing to go potty, whatever.

I'm working from home today. Cuddled up with my box of tissues, my computer and my dog.

kaydee0402, this makes me scared for children. How do you cope with the sleep deprivation? I guess you just power through?

Anyone have magic tricks for convincing stubborn 3 year old boys to potty train?

DS knows EXACTLY what he needs to do based on his behavior, and just refuses to do it. Doesn't matter if we offer stickers, m&ms, crackers, cookies, toys, etc. He just doesn't seem to care.

He's the only one in his daycare over 3 and under 4 that isn't potty-trained, and he has to do it before getting bumped up to the next classroom in school. Am I unnecessarily worrying about this?

I don't even know.  You just survive until bedtime I guess!  And I've been known to nap in my car during lunch.

No tips, but solidarity.  Does he know that there is going to be a new baby?  My mom said that we would regress back into diapers when a new baby was born because I guess toddlers see it as a source of comfort?

My sister took a week off of work and had my nephew spend the week (in summer) without diapers. It seemed to kickstart things. Good luck!

kaydee0402, he knows there is a new baby coming, but this is new territory so I don't know that he KNOWS. This has been a constant struggle for the past 6 months for us.

requiressnacks, I might try that the one week we have off over 4th of july week. He's in pull-ups (mostly) at this point to try and get him used to the motions of pulling them up, taking them off, and they are the learning ones so they are supposed to turn cold when he's wet. He just doesn't seem to care :

fikafairy67, does he seem like he is physically unable to hold it? When would he get bumped up to the next classroom at school? Unless you think there's a physical issue I'd probably just keep offering treats/the potty/mentioning that he won't be in the same class as his friends unless he goes pee in the potty. We "trained" DS too early for him (2 years and 9 months) because his school required that he be potty trained by the time he started. Well that just meant that he had a lot of accidents those first few months of school! I think the school finally realized it was developmentally inappropriate to require a kid to be potty trained if they weren't ready and changed their requirements. He's now 3.5 and fully trained (though I do keep him in diapers at nap and night after a few pee accidents) but I know kids who weren't trained until almost four so I wouldn't be really concerned. DS was a late sitter, crawler, walker, everything so I know what it is like to stress about milestone stuff.

legalbeagle, he has woken up in the morning and from naps dry on a number of different occasions (although not consistently) and he always tells us after he goes, but not before. We keep offering treats and telling him how proud we are when he does agree to sit and try for us, but the only time he has been successful in going is right after snack time in the morning at daycare.

He is a mid-late September birthday, so he is technically repeating this classroom year to match him up with kids who would be in school with him once he hits kindergarten. He was the youngest in this room last year, and is now the oldest. Since they are pretty fluid in moving kids up when they are ready, almost all the other kids in his "class" have been able to spend at least a few days up with the next room (he's a "Pony" now, and I think the next room is "Penguins"). I really don't think they would keep

He's SO SMART with everything else, but this one thing seems to be holding him back from moving up. I just get the feeling that he knows exactly what he's supposed to do, but just doesn't want to do it since diapers and pull-ups are "easier" and he doesn't have to stop what he's doing.

fikafairy67, sounds just like my DS. He has an end of Oct birthday and will be moving to a new private school next year so will be oldest in his class rather than youngest, which I'm kind of excited for and think will be good for him. Based on what you are saying I'd do what requiressnacks suggested and have him go diaper less (and pants less!) at home for a while. Pull up all the rugs! We did one weekend of that and by the end he would go regularly at home if he wasn't wearing pants. The transition to underwear was a bit more difficult, but maybe your DS needs to be convinced that it is easier to run to the potty and then come back to play rather than have to stop whatever he is doing because he peed on the floor? These little guys!

THIS! hahah..... being pregnant again I forgot how tired I was with DD in these early weeks.... and having a 11 month old at home I can't really freely nap. I spend my day yawning and trying not to fall asleep during meetings. She's a decent sleeper for the most part, but I think she's getting her first cold and so these last 2 nights she's been awake a lot and ends up just sleeping with us so we can all get a few zzzz's.

My son was so stinking stubborn about potty training. He was 3 before consistently peeing and almost 4 before pooping on the potty. He just didn't care. I wish you luck, fikafairy67 !

Preggie Pops are a gift from God. I picked some up this weekend. They were one of few things that helped keep my nausea at bay with DS and seem to be helping this time around too.

My friend recommended those, but with DS I had the opposite reaction when I tried them .  What keeps my nausea at bay is those wintergreen lifesavers.  I bought a GIANT bag at the store this weekend!

UGH, I have a coworker that does this.  I love her death but always joke with her that she's going to hell for stinking up the office.
