I wouldn't rule a name out strictly based on meaning unless it had to do with a religion or some other affiliation you didn't want to be associated with.

I don't pay much attention to meanings when picking a name- but after I have names I like, I will look up the meaning out of curiosity. I wouldn't discount a name I really loved based on meaning alone.
I don't think there are many instances where name meaning would come up in conversation as you grow up. I feel like this has come up before, but I would be more worried if the initials spelled something weird than name meaning. Things like that DO come up with kids, but I doubt the meaning of their name would affect them much. If you love the name, go for it!

I also don't consider the meaning - just if I like the name and it sounds good with my last name. I doubt the meanings of those names would cause problems for your LO, so I think you're OK.

If her name was really uncommon, the kid would get asked what her name meant all the time. But these names are not so uncommon. I don't think she'll be asked what her name means very often at all. I wouldn't worry about it if you like the names.
I look at the meaning just because I'm curious but I don't base my decision on naming my child because of the meaning. I'm just looking it up for fun more than anything else.
We were thinking of Mallorie if it was a girl which means unlucky. I felt really uneasy about that. But it was a combo of my mom and my nanas name is why we came up with it. I really wouldn't worry about it but I understand what you're saying.
We look up the meanings of names we're considering, but not really because it has any bearing on what we end up choosing. One of our boy name combos meant "Strong hunter from the shadow lands" which I thought was pretty bad ass.
So, for those of you who have never looked at the meanings of the name and aren't using a family name, what will you tell your LO when they ask why they have that name?

My mom just picked my name because she liked it. That's a perfectly fine reason to pick a name. Because you love it. Because it just fits them.
We look up meanings once we decide we like a name. But by then we are pretty well decided.

people asked us with DD1 who is Lucy Susan if we did it because of the Chronicles of Narnia (The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe) and the truth is we didn't even think about it. We just loved the name Lucy and Susan was a family name. I think that is a perfectly normal reason to choose a name
I definitely don't care about meanings. My DD was named after my grandmother, so I didn't consider any other meaning with her. I can't even remember ever looking up the meaning of my own name.
I looked at meanings of our current top two names in hopes that it might help narrow it down. It really didn't.
FWIW, I don't pay attention to meanings of other people's kids' names. Of all my friends who have had babies in the past few years, I've never even thought to ask or wonder about the meaning of the names they chose.

I do consider the meaning but it wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker if I didn't love what the name meant. DD1's middle name is Marie and it means bitter. We didn't care because the name came from my mom (Maris) and DH's grandma (Mary).
That being said, I've basically vetoed Natalia for this LO because it feels weird to name a baby born in May a name that means Christmas.
I always look up name meanings after I've narrowed it down to a couple names. Then I make sure the one I like doesn't mean something crazy and that's it. If it meant something truly horrible then no, if it was something silly then I would probably bypass it.

I never think to ask people what their name is unless it's something uncommon. My kid'a name meanings winner. I think it's cool, but we didn't choose it because of that.

Dont worry about name meanings. Whose name even means something cool? Hardly anyone. Plus mis-shapen head is hysterical. Your baby will be beautiful so who cares what it means.
There are other ways to get at the meaning of a name besides the literal translation. Yes, "caecus" means "blind" in Latin, but Caecilius/Caecilia were names given to people in then Roman Empire, and they weren't all blind. Were there any famous historical Caecilias from Rome? I'm pretty sure Saint Caecilia is the patron saint of music. If people are into name meanings, you can just say Cecilia is the patron saint of music. I think "music" is a much more relevant association with that name than "blind" anyway.
Due to the "what does your name mean" thread I found out this one means Blind as well (are you considering Cecilia?) I'm sad about that but it will be for dh's grandmother and I LoVE the name I had these books growing up and the heroine's sidekick or BFF was Celia and I loved that. Finding out dh's grandma was Cecilia drove me to ALMOST change DD1's name which id had my heart set on for YEARS.
