While I'm listing things I half remember, James Potter was kind of a fuck up in retrospect, wasn't he? Apparently he pre-ruined his future child's relationship with both Snape and Dursley by being kind of a bully to them, and he was such a shit judge of character that he made Peter Pettigrew his secret keeper. Way to drop the ball, James.
James was the fucking worst.
I actually yelled at the tv about that last night while watching Prisoner of Azkaban. When Harry gets mad at Snape and says "My dad did not strut!" B.S. Save
I thought S.P.E.W. was stupid too. I admire Hermione for trying to do right by the House Elves, but hiding knitted hats around the dorm to trick them into freedom was a bit ridiculous.
Spew was annoying AF but had its purpose. One of which was, I think, a commentary on the white saviour complex so often demonstrated by young women with intelligence, big hearts, and an ignorance of the culture they are attempting to help.
Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite book and one of the worst movies.
I have only seen movies up to Order of the Phoenix, but Azkaban was my favorite! I thought Chamber of Secrets was slow. And I've only seen OotP once, but I don't remember loving it either.
I disliked the part in the movie where he calls Harry "James" right before he dies.
It made it seem like Sirius didn't have his own important relationship with Harry outside of James. Obviously Sirius would've had some strong feelings about Harry because he was James' kid. But he wasn't only trying to recapture his lost friendships and youth through Harry. He also loved Harry for Harry.
It made him seem kind of doddering and pathetic. No me gusta.
I thought he was calling to James, like on the other side. Did I misinterpret?
*I only read these for the first time last fall and have only seen the movie once.
Hedwig's death hurt me way more than I expected. I still am full of emotions just thinking about it.
I made H watch all the movies, and now he's reading the books. Not ideal, but I knew I didn't have a chance of getting him to read them otherwise. After we finished the last movie, he curled up in bed and said that nothing would ever be happy ever again because Rowling killed his soul.
UO: I think Snape's payoff story is atrocious. He was an asshole to a kid of a woman he "loved" because his dad was an arse? Yeah, no. And he "loved" Lily? All I get is creepy, stalker vibe from him. I fastforward through his crying/holding Lily's body because I'm just cringing so badly. I think JK Rowling fell down hard there.
I feel meh about the whole Snape/Lily thing but in his defense it is Harry's fault she died. She died protecting him.
It's not Harry's fault. What mother wouldn't protect her child? I think it's beautiful.
Ive never really liked teen James much but I think he matured into a very decent adult. I don't like teen TLex much either but she is a reasonably ok adult 😉

OOtP was my favorite book because I loved psychological, angry, angsty Harry. It was one of the first times I'd read a book where the main character was so unlikeable and yet exactly like a teenage boy. I do like all of them for different reasons, though Chamber of Secrets got eaten by the dog years ago and I haven't replaced it, so I feel like that tells me something...
Okay so this is movie related (don't hate, I love the books too). I LOVE the scene in the tent where Harry and Hermione dance to 'O Children' in DH. It's completely platonic, I just love their friendship.
Me too. This is the one addition in the movies that I really, really love.
Do not get me started on that bullshit with The Burrow though.
I Don't think Harry was that great of a friend to Neville.
Does Harry even try to talk to Neville after seeing his parents at St. Mungo's? I don't remember exactly but I have a vague memory of being disappointed in Harry after that whole thing.
My local symphony just announced they're doing a Harry Potter film concert series this fall and I immediately forwarded the link to my H and blocked the dates on our google calendar. #relevant

In the movie, Sirius says something like "nice shot James!" to Harry after he lands a curse on one of the Death Eaters. Before he's dying.

I went to this. It was ah-mazing.
We went to a showing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone where the Philadelphia Orchestra played the score. It was wonderful!

Sirius saw Harry as an extension of James. I'm not sure he ever saw Harry. I actually found it profoundly sad because Harry loved Sirius. He was a connection to his parents, but not his actual parents. He understood the difference. I don't think Sirius did.
