I do not agree with this list, Fred's death was much more devastating than Cedric's. But still an interesting read.
I think Cedric really hit hard because, even though he wasn't a big character, it was the first time where we realized one of the good guys could die. That there was no getting through this unscathed.
In the movie, Sirius says something like "nice shot James!" to Harry after he lands a curse on one of the Death Eaters. Before he's dying.
Sirius saw Harry as an extension of James. I'm not sure he ever saw Harry. I actually found it profoundly sad because Harry loved Sirius. He was a connection to his parents, but not his actual parents. He understood the difference. I don't think Sirius did.
See this is how I think it comes off in the movie which is what I dislike, it's so depressing and one-note.
I think Sirius loved Harry for himself (in addition to his being James' kid.) He identified with Harry in a way that he didn't even with James. Harry and Sirius had lonely childhoods. They grew up in households where they were openly disliked and, in each other, they had a hope at a home where they were appreciated and welcomed. They gave each other something to look forward to. And then that hope was taken away for Harry, yet again.
UO: I was more sad about Sirius dying than Dumbledore.
I would completely agree with this... except I took the sorting quiz and I'm in Thunderbird, which is fun as hell to say.
Her narrative for it is just awful. White European comes to America and starts a school to educate the native population.
I feel like it was half assed, however, I will give The Queen the benefit of the doubt because it was written and published for a website. I would like to think that if she were putting ink to paper, more thought would have gone into it.
That could all be wishful thinking and I recognize that.

I'm just catching up on this thread. I legit cried when Sirius, Dobby, and Snape died. I liked Dumbledore but his death didn't hold the same level of emotion for me.
The Deathly Hallows movies were my favorite of the series. I loved both parts. I STILL feell sad that the magic of reading one of the books or watching one of the movies for the first time is over.
I Don't think Harry was that great of a friend to Neville.
Does Harry even try to talk to Neville after seeing his parents at St. Mungo's? I don't remember exactly but I have a vague memory of being disappointed in Harry after that whole thing.
Dumbledore told him not to talk to Neville about it when he found out in the Pensive. Then they ran into each other and it was obviously so painful to Neville that he didn't want to bring it up. They both grew up without parents and I don't remember Neville ever saying anything to Harry either

I agree. The death of Sirius was the worst death for me in all the books (and maybe all books I've ever read) in the series. I didn't want Dumbledore to die, but it bothered me a whole lot less than most of the other big deaths.
It's been awhile since I've viewed HBP, did they show the flashback of Merope in the Gaunt cottage?
I don't think they showed any of Voldemort's family or history. This is one of the reasons HBP is my least favorite of the movies. I think all of that stuff is important to show what made him become Voldemort.

I don't think so. I think he talks to Dumbledore & they agree to not mention it unless Neville does.

Apparently I had blocked out the fact that Luna and Neville do not end up together because I did a double take when reading this thread. And I don't understand the "misfits ending up with misfits" mentality because I would say that every character was a misfit in their own way (even, or especially, Harry).
Neville Longbottom Neville is an underdog but he outshines all the other guys in your dating life. He has clumsily stumbled his way into your heart with his kindness and impressive knowledge about plants.
