Hi ladies, so many of you have been wonderful offering support during this odd time, and I wanted to thank you for all of your positive thoughts and prayers once more.
I have another update for those who are following along with this:
We had the follow up this morning with the MFM doc, since I had the thoracentisis last week (to remove fluid from the growth in baby's chest). The mass has gained some size/fluid since they drained it. Although not as big as last week (thank goodness) it has grown to about the size it was at our first level 2 ultrasound (almost 2 weeks ago). She’s not happy to see that it gained that much in just 5 days, so she suggested we go ahead with placing a stint into Nuggets chest. Tomorrow.
Since Nugget is in a good position where she can access the chest without going through my anterior placenta, she wants to try and do this right away. Otherwise we may lose the window of opportunity. So, tomorrow I will have the stint placed, and hopefully I can get through it with just local anesthesia, and not have to do the spinal (because that would suck even more). I’m a tough broad; I think I can take it….
Basically the stint will be placed in the chest, and will allow the mass to drain the fluid into the amniotic fluid of the sac. The hope is that Nugget will leave it alone, and that it will stay in place and it can do it’s job and we won’t have to go back in to do anything more. But of course I need to be monitored regularly to be sure it stays in place.
This procedure has a little higher risk than the thorocentisis, more like 3-4% risk, instead of 1%. So I’ll be going home and essentially on bed rest for the rest of the day, but can go back to work on Wednesday, while still taking it easy.
I have a follow up on Thursday this week, and another scheduled for Monday next week to be sure it has stayed in place. Then we'll determine how often I go in for monitoring, because we need to make sure baby doesn't mess with it and pull it out, or that it doesn't fall out on it's own. They'll also monitor to be sure it's doing its job and keeping the mass at a reasonable size.
