After I rearranged my schedule so my nanny could have a day with a visiting family member, she texted in sick this morning. She's pleading a cough/cold. Yet she claims she will be well enough to make up hours by Friday. This smells suspiciously like a mental health/personal day. I look bad to my boss when she flakes out and it makes me so uncomfortable. Bah. Our go-to back up now has a newborn of her own, too. I barely slept last night (thanks housework), and I am going to need some extra grace to get through today.
gratefulgirl sorry about the nanny calling out today, that has to be frustrating!
Nothing much going on, I have to meet with the hematologist today and I took the rest of the day off since my PTO this week is screwed anyway with this extra appointment. I'll probably work on the dresser and then watch Big Brother.
Oh man, so sorry about your nanny calling in sick gratefulgirl. And that sounds like a good plan to me youdontsay!
Nothing too terribly exciting here either today - more nesting Part I of the birthing and labor class last night went well. Can't wait until Part II (which will cover pain management, recovery and post partum). We didn't do Chinese last night youdontsay, b/c a storm passed through and just about every place was out of power. We ended up going to Sonic lol!
Have a great hump day ladies!!!! Getting so excited hearing about these outside babies beginning to make an appearance!!
gratefulgirl, That's so frustrating. I have an understanding boss, but I always feel stressed out when my work schedule gets messed up.
Just working this morning and then I'm done for the week (or 12 weeks hopefully!). It's so interesting to me how each of my pregnancies have been SO different from beginning to end. DD1 and DD2 also have completely different personalities, so it's funny to see how individual they have been since conception! Can't wait to meet this LO and see her personality develop.
Oh and I had a dream last night that I was checking in at the hospital. Their system was down and we had to sign in on a list, there were a lot of people waiting. Then there was about 15 babies swaddled and lined up on the desk and they started going down the list and holding babies up. "Elm, here is your baby girl!" She had big cheeks and reddish blond hair.
So I guess I just show up to the hospital and get handed my baby? Not too bad haha.
I had a terrible night. Apparently I have started snoring (is this a pregnancy thing???) and DH can't sleep, so he went to the guest room in the middle of the night. When I got up to pee I noticed he wasn't there and then got really emotional - I'm SO sorry, YOU can't sleep? I'm the one dealing with being pregnancy, and a little snoring is keeping you up? It's so not fair of me, he should sleep if he can, especially since he has to go to work. So it made me feel like a terrible wife for being so mad.
My doula reminded me last night that her fees are an eligible expense for most FSA/HSA plans. Just a heads up if you have either of those options and HSA expenses can be submitted at anytime- so next year for example to get some tax advantaged money.

gratefulgirl, thats annoying about your nanny, i am sorry!
hannahbear, as far as i know i don't snore at night. But last weekend we went for a nap amd when i decided i was finished i told mh i didn't actually sleep and he just laughted and said he thinks i did since i snored. He said he hasn't noticed it at night though, so i don't know.
Haven't done much today, my girl parts are all sore today, i think from sitting too long waiting at the hospital and in the car. I did manage to iron one shirt though, clearly 2 yesterday was too much! Ha ha!

Its a struggle when the nanny flakes:( im sorry. That is so stressful.
At least you probably take fewer pto days due to sick kids? Maybe? That's at least how it is for me.
I was nesting hardcore last night. A friend dropped off two giant plastic storage containers and one huge bag of baby clothes for us - we weren't home, so she left them on the back stairs in our covered carport. I sort of left them out there for a long time, and one of the boxes wasn't sealed completely, but the clothes were fine and I didn't see any bugs on them. However, my husband is super paranoid about bugs, especially fleas, and was freaking out and scratching himself all night after I brought one of the boxes and the bag in to sort and wash. I stayed up so late washing them and now I really think we have too much stuff, and I need to just donate the second box. And I also really hope I didn't actually bring fleas in the house.
I also have a question for those with 2+ kids - first pregnancy, I was 31 and went into labor on my 32nd birthday. I've been 33 this whole pregnancy and the baby's due the week after my 34th birthday. Back when I was 31, I was in MUCH better shape than I am now - I was still training martial arts, exercising 2-3 times per week and just younger. I *really* don't remember being in as much pain as I am in now, when I was at this same stage in the pregnancy. Everything hurts. Getting up from a chair, sofa or the bed is a huge task. Even changing positions in bed is awful. Is any of this going to make the actual LABOR more difficult/painful, in your opinion?
Ugh, it seems like waking up in the mornings these days just means aching hips and a grinding back... I am a little afraid to get up to see how bad the damage is from my cleaning spree yesterday...
Plus side: my mom is coming by this afternoon, she hasn't gotten a ton of time with DD lately, so it'll be nice for them to see each other, and I have plans to make it to the farmer's market this afternoon, as well! I am weirdly excited about that.
And if I can (finally) finish cleaning up my kitchen (omg the floor needs to be swept and mopped sooooo bad) then I have what sounds to ME like tasty dinner plans. I got a maple sausage to cook up with some onion and the green beans my mom gave me from her garden. I thought I could make a sauce of some kind in it and toss it with some pasta. Not sure what to do for sauce, though.
frodabaggins, That is a really good question! I am curious what those who have some experience have to say! I am there with you about this time seeming more genrally painful and achey. I keep hoping labor will at least go FASTER this time... statistically that is how it goes, right?
I have now officially had a headache for 4 days straight. My doctor was unworried about preecclampsia, since my blood pressure is 100/60 and my urine tested negative for the proteins or whatever. She was like, go ahead and keep taking all the tylenol. I hope it goes away, because I really really don't want to do this for a month.
In other news, my hospital is going to be one of the first in the area to offer nitrous oxide during labor, starting in a week or so! I'm excited about this extra option for pain relief during labor.

boo for the ongoing headache, but yay for the nitrous!
frodabaggins I think it's because everything is stretched out from previous pregnancies. I got epidurals so I did get to rest during labor which made pushing better. With my 2nd and my 4th they were the hardest pregnancies. I just found labor worse because I was mentally spent from lack of sleep and pain. My suggestion would be to take baths, hot showers, use ice packs whatever you need to get comfortable so that you aren't exhausted by the time you do go into labor.

frodabaggins For whatever it's worth, during my first pregnancy, I walked 2 miles almost every night through to the end & did all my Bradley exercises/stretches. I had a fairly easy labor & delivery, 8 hours long. My 2nd pregnancy, I didn't have the time or energy or interest to do all of that. I walked & did my exercises when I could (and binge-walked at the end to try and beat my induction date). Labor and delivery was about the same for me--fairly easy, without complications, and only 3 hours long (if you don't count the 3 weeks of contractions off and on leading up to that).

I've been trying for 2 days to come up with a menu plan & to gear up to grocery shop. In the end, I come up with nothing aside from a desperate hope that I go into labor before its time to cook dinner.
On the bright side, I woke up feeling reasonably refreshed, and with just a mild headache, this morning.
frodabaggins, I was in so much more pain during third tri with DD2 than I ever felt with DD1. I was truly miserable. But my labor with DD2 was so much easier than the first time. I'm hoping it's the same for you!

Ditto all of this. Labor was much much easier/faster with DD2, but even now my 2nd pregnancy remains my most miserable one.
esquette I hope the headache goes away soon! Did they suggest anything other than tylenol?
Re nitrous: I think it's like 50/50 if it works for people. I gave it a shot with DS and it didn't touch anything. But this was also 10 hours into labor and maybe it would have helped more at the earlier stages.
