I'm glad you brought this up steph (but sorry that happened). I've been pumping once a day to freeze a little, but I don't really know how I should be freezing. I have mostly 4 oz bags but today I froze a 6oz bag. I have no idea how much he eats in a day/sitting. He hasn't had a bottle since he was 3 days old.
Is it better to freeze in smaller increments like 2-4oz? How much do bf babies typically eat in a day?
I'm so new smh.
My 2-week-olds are taking 1-3oz per feeding during their MOTN bottle feeds. I believe that increases as they get older and their stomachs get bigger. I think my friend with an 11-month-old gives him 4oz/feeding.

Also related to breastmilk safety... if we take a bottle out of the fridge, warm it up, and don't use it all, can we put it back in the fridge and use it the next night?

2 to 4 oz is a good place to start. Because breast milk composition changes over time, babies don't really increase too much in volume. My little guy always took 4 or 6 oz bottles from 4 months to 8 months-ish. Volume didn't really vary until I switched to formula. So freezing in 2 and 4 oz portions gives you the option to just thaw an extra tiny bag if the 4 oz bottle isn't quite enough.
I usually do one 3 oz bag and one 4 oz bag because that's what I tend to pump in a session between feedings. But, if I get 6 or less, I combine and put it in one bag. I figured I'd need to thaw higher volumes in a single day when he starts DC.

I'm pretty sure the rule is that if it's a bottle their mouth was on, you toss it (their mouths introduce bacteria). My understanding is that if it's a container of milk that you warm up, pour some into a bottle but still have some in the container, you can put that back in the fridge. More experienced moms, feel free to correct me!

Checked with the pediatrician today. She said it can be put back in the fridge and stays good for 24 hours but you can only rewarm it once.

This was my understanding too, and what we have done.

I had a super cute PPB pump bag with S1. It was specifically designed to fit the PISA. Anyway, they stopped making it. I loved having a cute bag as opposed to the standard black one that came with the PISA and screamed to those on the metro BREAST PUMP! Now that things have changed w insurance covering pumps but not including the bag I was hoping they started making cute bags again.... And they do! There's the link if anyone is as silly as I am and wants a cute bag for their pump.

Help! We've had such a rough 24 hours and I'm not sure if DS is just cluster feeding or if he's having tummy troubles or what. He was crying and crying last night, except for when I fed him, but although he would mostly quiet down when I tried to feed him, he'd keep unlatching and getting super frustrated.
Eventually, I was able to keep him latched long enough for him to nurse until he was full (I guess?) and he'd unlatch and be pretty much asleep. I'd burp him and he'd still be mostly sleepy, but whenever I tried to put him down in the crib he'd start fussing and then screaming again within minutes. He had been sleeping in his crib since day one without a problem until last night. He's also seemed to really prefer being held upright all day today. He hasn't napped for more than an hour/hour and a half at a time since 8am and I don't know whether im doing the right thing by continuing to try to feed him when nothing else works.

hummingbird125 - any chance he is 4.5 ish weeks after due date and having his first wonder week (mental developmental growth spurt)? One of mine would eat a lot less during those.

He's just under 3.5 weeks after his due date now.
I think it might've just been gas. DH was holding him a few hours ago while I tried to shovel some food into my mouth, and he let out a HUGE burp and then immediately fell asleep for 2.5hrs - the longest stretch we had all day. Since then, I've been able to feed and burp him without him crying when I try to burp him. He's still latching/unlatching but maybe this crazy day just set him back a little. Overall he seems much more settled down since letting out that big burp and I think I get to file this under "mom was right!" since DH thought he was just extra hungry today, and didn't have any has issues.

When can I start to pump? M is 11 days old. engorgement subsided Monday. I'm leaking and gross in the mornings and would love to pump a bit to prevent leaky boobs.
