Wow- lots of cloth diaper people here. In theory, I like the idea, but cleaning them sounds really annoying, and kind of gross. I just found a delivery and pick up service though. I may look into it.
I used a service for a while when we lived in an apartment with no washer/dryer hookup. It was really $$$. Can't say I'd spend the money on that again.

We thought about doing cloth diapers with DS but would have had to wait until we moved into our new place when he was almost 3 months old. By that time I'd already gotten into disposables and there was no way I was going to switch since I was already feeling overwhelmed with the extra laundry. I'm so impressed by people who do it though and if you're committed, you can totally do this! People are irritating about all sorts of "more work" baby things- we made our own baby food and people were all sorts of judgy but it worked well for us just like cloth diapers work well for a lot of other people.

As a FTM I wouldn't/didn't like the idea of cloth diapers. But I started my son at age one and now plan on doing it w this LO.
Laundry is my favorite chore, it still sucks but out of everything I don't mind laundry, so an extra couple loads weren't bad. I figured I'm either washing poopy clothes cuz he would shit out of disposables or wash cloth diapers...

I can relate. I really enjoy laundry for some reason. I find it easy and I love the feel of clean clothes. I've considered doing people's laundry for money. Side gig potential. Lol

I always wonder why people get judgey about baby food or cloth diapers, etc. WHY would you care?!

Here, here. People enjoy imparting their "wisdom" during pregnancy and early child stage.
I was interested in cloth but most daycares here won't do them and DH wasn't interested at all. My sister did it and was always washing, drying, stuffing diapers. She didn't mind.
She's a SAHM and it worked for her. Disposables pairing with coupons and Target gift cards work best for us. No judgement!

I suspected I'll be in this boat. I may try cloth while I'm at home, but if we go with daycare I don't think I'd keep it up just for at home. Maybe a nanny would be willing to try, but that's not certain.
I am planning on cloth diapering for the first months when the poo is all liquid. Our laundry is directly outside the room we would use as the nursery, so I feel like it will be easy to toss them in there. Once we get into solid poops I'll reassess. I'll also likely use disposables when we are out and about.
Basically I'm going to try cloth diapering but I'm not going to shame myself if I can't keep up with it.
Question for STM's who needed daycare: when did you start looking for childcare?
Really depends on where you live and what the wait lists are like. We started looking in January / February. Clara was born in May and didn't start daycare until late August!

glb30 while I wound up deciding to SAH our original plan was daycare. DS was born in April, would have gone to daycare when I started university in September. We started looking in January (before he was born) and of all the daycares we checked at only 2 had spots available, everywhere else we were looking at a waitlist or a later start. Where you live makes a big difference as does the age your baby will be when they start as caregiver ratios are dependent on child age.
mosdub , real poop is typically easier because it is ploppable! How's that for a visual / sound effect?
Also that chair sounds amazing. If it is in your budget and gets good reviews I say splurge!
The only downside is it's a fabric that doesn't look like it would be fun to clean. Definitely leaning toward leather or fake-leather for easy wiping. Also I think I want to wait until 20 weeks before I make some big purchases (we already have a crib, stroller and car seat from the last pregnancy, so there aren't a lot of "big" purchases left to make at least!)
Question for STM's who needed daycare: when did you start looking for childcare?
We started looking in January for care in August (May baby) but I ended up switching jobs in May. We didn't have care lined up until late July. We go to an in-home. Infants spots are hard to come by and a center wasn't in our budget at all. It can be stressful!

I just started looking and felt like a weirdo until the first place I went to put me on a wait list and said make sure you have a plan B. Queue me panicking and looking at several other places because all of our family is out of town so we have no option to hold us over and need a spot available when I go back to work. It seems like infant care is specifically a challenge because not all places take babies and have a small cap (8-10 babies).
Day care is also the reason we decided against cloth diapers. We were going back and forth anyways and knowing we can't use them for day care made the decision final.
Thanks, @meggypoo and amandamh2 - I'm calling tomorrow!
Are you leaning towards center or in-home? I've heard in-home you can wait til closer to the date needed.
But I already put down a deposit for my in-home! Only because i inquired about her rates when she posted that she had two openings this August, BC we were trying to figure out a new budget. But when I told her we needed next August, she was thrilled because she has one leaving her care for kindergarten next Aug. So it worked out perfectly, she knows her spot is filled, and I know I'm set with the highest rated in home
May I ask what resources you use to find an in-home? We were considering looking into that but all I can think about is a complete stranger coming into my home and taking care of my baby! Lol need to know where to find reputable, validated people.
sms2524 - our state has a website where you can search by area and includes active licenses, etc. I would start with asking for referrals from people you know and/or calling whoever is in charge of licensing for your state to see if they have a database you can search.

Oh, by in-home I'm talking about in the daycare provider's home. The one I went with came highly recommended by tons of people in my neighborhood and in her neighborhood. She has two assistants, and the people that use her will stay with her until the kids start kindergarten or unless the family moves too far away.
For in your home, like a nanny, I'd suggest posting on neighborhood or city pages, or trying out websites like Care or SitterCity. I've found employment on a nanny at those sites, and I believe you can pay for a background check.
lol oops, my noob is showing! Thanks for the info!
