TV. DH and I are discussing what is the appropriate amount of tv time for Leo. Before it was a non issue, even with the tv on he wouldn't pay attention to it after a while instead play or follow us around. I told dh that last night he watched about an hours worth of tv. Totally tuned me out. I managed to clean the whole kitchen, including stovetop and micro. I didn't think an hr was so bad but dh did.
How do you determine what is an ok tv time for your LO(s)? I guess it's a bigger issue as they get older, or like in my case, once I have #2 and need to distract Leo?

Took lo raspberry picking with my parents this morning. Lo loved having his own basket to carry around. He was so proud of himself every time he picked a berry and put it in the basket. He liked running up and down the rows too. My dad was watching him run and climb and said that he looks like he's got good enough balance and gross motor skills to learn how to ski this winter. My dad is going to teach him. Can't wait to see my little man on teeny tiny skis. Omg. Now I'm sitting here while lo finishes lunch and hoping I'm not getting pink eye. My eye was fine this morning, but now it's all red and feels slightly itchy. I took my contacts out and I'm hoping maybe just sunscreen/bug spray/berry juice irritated it, because fuck pink eye.

ourcrazynavylife I did enjoy some slightly warm coffee. Lol Any fun plans for the weekend? littlelion I don't really know about screen time either. Everything in moderation I suppose. Lo is only interested in tv for a short time, but he's probably play on the tablet all day if we let him.

Sounds like fun! DH doesn't want to take us apple picking. Boo. It's a 2 hr drive so I can understand. I just don't like any orchards in IL that I've been too.
FX it's not pink eye! My eye is still dry and irritated but at least it's no longer shut in the mornings! I have a follow up appt tomorrow.

+1 to Michigan apple orchards!
Was your eye infection pink eye? Or just some random infection? I'm just nervous if mine does turn out to pink eye that lo will catch it, because that shit is so contagious. And putting eye drops in a toddler's eye sounds like misery.
littlelion we're pretty anti TV over here as the AAP recommends no screen time before two so she doesn't really watch TV. Ever. Lol.
Sorry That's not super helpful.
Who is the AAP?
AAP= American Academy of Pediatrics.
As for TV/ screentime over here, I was super strict with my first two. By number three, I entered zero fucks mode. This LO probably watches 20-30 minutes a day, typically while I'm making dinner. I usually make myself feel better by having her color or do a puzzle while it's on. I also try to choose "educational" tv when I can. But, sometimes that doesn't work out. My kids don't seem to care too much about tv, though. For the older ones, there is no digital until homework and chores are finished. I don't have to come down on them about it too often because they know I will just take the chargers away (a dead tablet is useless...and drives the point home better than taking the actual tablet). We all do the best we can. Even my own pediatrician is like "yeah, the people that wrote that stuff don't have kids at home." So mama, you do you and use your best judgment. FWIW, the third one who was allowed screentime before two has the least amount of interest in it now, has the best vocabulary and grades of all of my kids...take from that what you will.

ashlantic, I don't think they can diagnose easily. The eye dr was ready to prescribe steroid+antibiotic drops but when I told her that I was pregnant, she said let's wait it out and see if it goes away on it's own.
ourcrazynavylife, kcrus, LOL. I should've known that (AAP). I still don't think an hour is bad. And my H has some nerve, whenever he picks Leo up from DC I come home to find them watching a cartoon or something.

We have a hard and fast rule (that came into being after #2) that one parent doesn't get to tell the other parent how to survive an evening as long as everyone is alive at the end. I totally would have told him to STFU. You are a better woman than I am!
ourcrazynavylife How organized! We have friends who have entire wall in their garage dedicated to their hockey gear. (Husband and wife both play.) It's so... neat lol littlelion, I have the same problem. I'm too unsure of the apple orchards out here in CO. Probably a product of growing up in WA state lol. I'm making a thing out of going pumpkin patch picking every year with LO, so I choose my battles. ashlantic, We have a raspberry patch in our backyard. After every nap, we go out and pick berries and she eats them right then and there. She's going to be so disappointed when it starts snowing and no more raspberries. Hope it's not pink eye. That shit sucks! Also, my dad was a huge rock climber/mtn backpacker growing up. (He's scaled Mt. Whitney over 20 times, all four sides, and climbed El Capitan in Yosemite more than once.) Now that LO is climbing all over everything, he's super excited to try and get her into indoor climbing class. It's so adorable, and I know she would love it. As for TV, she doesn't really pay attention to it. If she does, it's only for 10 minutes because there is surely something way more fascinating to do outside. I watch news in the morning, but not for very long, usually the start of the Wendy Williams show (It's on after the news. She likes the music and dances, sings, and claps along), and then after her nap, it's strictly PBS kids if the TV is on (I'm a sucker for Arthur). She really doesn't pay attention to it, so I'm sorry I'm probably no help either. lol

Womp womp. It's pink eye. Cancelling my plans for the weekend and Clorox wiping everything I can get my hands on.
raven that's awesome! Do you think you and YH will teach lo how to skate/play hockey when she's big enough? Even though sometimes I'm sad that lo isn't my little squish anymore, I'm so excited about being able to share our hobbies with him. We already booked our annual ski trip to Colorado for late February and I can't wait to see lo out on the mountain!
ashlantic Yes we will. She likes to play with my hockey stick already. I think all the gear scares her right now. Mommy and daddy are not recognizable with all that padding and helmet.
littlelion Sorry you had a rough week As for the TV question, we were also told no screens until 2 by our local health unit here in Canada. We were pretty strict about it until 18 months (with the exception of restaurants, she never watched TV and still doesn't use tablets or play with our phones) but after going back to work and struggling to prep, mark, clean, cook, etc. we relaxed a bit. She still only watches maybe 20 minutes twice a week and I prefer old-school shows with real kids (not cartoons) like Barney. I agree with others who said you should do whatever you think is right, and I definitely don't think your DH should have been critical, especially considering you were cleaning, no sitting on your butt!
I had a super shitty end to my week. I'm at a new school this year, and so far everything has been okay; however, today in last period four of my grade 11s were being completely rude and defiant. I called them on their crap and told them at this rate they won't be earning the credit so they better suck it up and do some work (not in those words lol). Then I turn around to help another kid and they run out of the room. So I ended my Friday by staying late to meet with admin and call all of their parents. One of them is high every single day and tested just above school to community, two are diagnosed with ODD and the fourth just follows along with whatever they do. So now I need to make an action plan for next week and all I want to do is drink a bottle of wine I'm a little hesitant though since I haven't gotten my period yet this month....I haven't been tracking closely since we're not TTC but I swear I should have gotten it by now. Maybe I'll limit myself to a glass and call it a night.
I'm super late. ashlantic, boo for pink eye megpie5, sorry for the rough end to the week!
On the topic of TV, LO doesn't watch any. He's just not interested. On Sundays when football is on we will bring his high chair into the living room and he'll watch football with us til he's done eating, and no longer. I don't really mind and love that he prefers to be activeand curious about his workd.
That said, to me it wouldn't be the worst thing if he decided he wanted to watch a show here and there once his little sibling is born, to give me a little respite.
I would also add littlelion that your H shouldn't have criticized you for that hour. Doesn't seem excessive to me at all, plus you were super productive with it! I'm impressed. I wouldn't have blamed you if you had just wanted to rest your pregnant self!

How my husband ate cereal twice and didn't realize the milk was bad is beyond me. I told him last weekend it was tasting funny but not sure. He said it was fine and even had some last night. I serve myself a nice bowl of cereal just now, take a big spoonful and spew it out into the sink. Luckily I was standing right next to it. Yuk.

In better news, I'm having lunch with my cousin today! W/o leo. Dh is home. It's been too long since I've had me time. We have a birthday party later this evening. My only other goal today is to find the newborn & 0-3 baby clothes. And double check that there aren't any 3T clothes stored away.
megpie5 I'm sorry your students were such shits yesterday. Hope you're able to relax and not think about work for a little bit this weekend! ourcrazynavylife that wig is adorable! littlelion have fun today!
