requiressnacks I called back today and it was authorized so I called the MFM to set up an appointment. They're still at lunch so I got a voicemail. I left a message but I'll probably call again shortly to make sure I get an appointment quickly

OMFG no one knows what the hell to do with me. I guess insurance coded the authorization like an NT scan. Uh no. Also the receptionist was like I need to talk to the Dr to see how he wants to handle this so I still don't have an appt. I know this is not common but I think the answer is and should be we will see you ASAP because you're having identical F'ing TRIPLETS. Did I mention that my patience is really lacking right now.

Okay, I'm being an AW but I spoke to the MFM's office and he won't see me till 12 weeks?! I told her my RE said I needed to be seen now and she said he won't do it until I'm 12 weeks. I think I'm gonna need a different doctor which probably means at least another weeks wait for a new authorization. The first MFM we saw for DD's NT scan was a major a-hole so I refuse to go to him. Such a clusterF

fightersince83 I'm so sorry. You shouldn't have to go through all of this just to get the care you need. I hope you can enjoy your weekend and the response everyone has next week is more appropriate like "get you're butt in here we'll make room."

This would annoy me beyond belief. Is the MFM part of his own practice? Or is he a hospital employee?
He's his own practice. I don't even think he has privileges at the hospital that's closest to us with a NICU now that I've looked into it further. Again very frustrating because I'm back to square one. I just want to feel like I have someone that knows what they're doing and has done this before. I've heard a lot of reasons why I should worry and no real reassurance. This is obviously not helping

Ugh I'm so sorry you feel like that. I remember with my first pregnancy feeling like no one cared until things were at least 1/3 of the way done (meaning no one would see me until 12 weeks). It was an awful feeling always wondering if things were ok.
As hopefully a point to make you feel better (and please don't take it as me being crass or dismissive of your stress because I can't even imagine having 3 lives to worry about)- what would or could anyone do now even if something was wrong? I haven't researched triplets but I can't think of any medical interventions you're potentially missing out on. I realize it sounds ridiculous to say and probably impossible for you but try not to worry just yet. I agree you definitely need to get into a MFM (my Ob laid it out nicely for me- a family practice doc should never see twins and an ObGyn should never see triplets) but maybe it's just like all of the Ob's I've encountered who don't see pregnant women until 12 weeks and it's all totally normal and it'll all work out great and you'll meet him and he'll calm all your fears and you'll grow three beautiful healthy babes.
Sorry if I'm rambling. I'm mobile tonight and sometimes my fingers run away without my brain.
Sending hugs because it's real shitty to feel like you're not understood and no one cares. And sending a junk punch to your insurance co. for what sounds like an absurd run around.

DVMmomma basically my RE can't discharge me unless I'm under an MFM's care. We pay 100% OOP for that so it's at least $200/appt with him. Also, a key piece of info to know is if there are membranes separating the babies. Even though they are identical and in the same sac, there's a chance that there are membranes between them which would lower some of my risks. My RE's equipment isn't good enough to pick that up. So basically I'm really in limbo in terms of what to expect. He can't give me any more info than they're identical, on one sac and it's "extremely high risk". I don't know any kinds of odds, what I can expect, or what a general treatment plan would look like for me. How long can I plan on working? What are the risks of different activities? Are there any warning signs I need to look for and what do I do if I notice any? What no I need to be doing from a nutrition standpoint to give myself the best odds with triplets? These are all questions only an MFM can answer & (s)he'd need to know if these membranes are there or not. I'm also a planner & have a loss history so being told extremely high risk and then not being able to be seen for 4 weeks (since this whole week is out now) is just nuts to me. My OB saw me weekly with DD at 8 weeks because of my history. I can't believe 12 weeks is the best they can do for triplets

Oh! I assumed naively that an RE would have all that information for you. I'm actually a bit surprised he couldn't determine if each baby has an amniotic sac. I picked that up on my scan of myself- you don't live in MN right? I'd check for you If you've only got one amniotic sac that would indeed suck. But my understanding is that it's quite unlikely that that's the case. Even if it is the case, there's nothing that can be done other than knowing that yes, you went from high to higher risk. Any chance you can get into an Ob for a scan earlier just to help ease your mind? I realize it's not what you want or need but maybe knowing that one variable is off the table will help a bit? I feel for you!! That's a lot of unanswered questions!!

DVMmomma My OB is going to see me one time, basically to be nice, but won't see me beyond that. His equipment isn't going to be any better than my RE's. Basically my RE said that he couldn't see any membranes but that it was possible that his equipment wasn't good enough to detect it. Sadly I'm not in MN or I'd take you up on that 😂 My OB still won't see me for a week just due to availability. He mainly sounded like he was doing it in case I couldn't see an MFM before then. And I have no idea who would be delivering these babies. My OB said no but it doesn't sound like all MFMs do delivery so I don't know who else I need to get on board.
fightersince83, Forewarning, I'm a complete asshole. Call your RE and your OB and tell them to do whatever it takes to get you into the MFM. Most of the time, they all know each other. 12w is not acceptable, 4w between appointments with trips is not acceptable. Just no.
And if none of the nice things work. I'd just show up at the office and demand to speak with the doctor. Or claim I was bleeding and go to the ER at the hospital where the MFM works- they would at least be called for a consult. But again, I'm a jerk.

I like your style schmella I guess I'm just taken aback because I didn't anticipate finding someone to see me being so difficult. I have great doctors and I just assumed my OB would still do the c-section even though I'd have specialists involved. Plus hormones and stress so it's just all very upsetting. I feel very whiny
fightersince83 I'm really sorry you're experiencing SO much unneeded stress. I don't think you're overeating or being whiny at all. 12 weeks for triplets is insane! I hope some people get their shit together this week for you.

I totes agree. I almost thinking making any pregnant woman wait until 12 weeks is insane. Let alone triplets. It should be easy enough to get an office visit and get to talk to someone about what to expect and restrictions and what not.

LOL @ "overeating!"
I meant overreacting, though I'm sure any overeating you'd be doing is warranted.

Haha! I didn't even see that. I probably should be over eating
I wonder if you can call the MFM department at the hospital with the NICU for a better response?
You are an anomaly. This is super, super rare. 12 weeks isn't acceptable. At all. They need to begin monitoring for so many things like the sacs and transfusion issues, etc.
I had weekly u/s through first tri, then a month break and now every two weeks and that's with di/di twins. I see a MFM directly at a big hospital.
That's a good idea. I called one of the doctor's offices today but they're closed on the weekend. I can try calling the hospital directly and see if they at least know if any of the docs take my insurance

@wineandcupcakes the saga continues. The hospital didn't have a list of perinatologists?! They recommended I call my insurance directly to find out who takes my plan and has privileges. The med group and insurance carrier are both closed. Online search is broken? It keeps saying no results even when I eliminate all criteria except area which is obviously not right

I am sorry to say this and I understand how worried you are but most MFMs will not see you without a referral from your OB and won't see you until 12 weeks; in other words it is a very normal practice. I can tell you that I would have had a four week wait with my triplets between appointments if it weren't for a scan with my OB at 10 weeks due to a bleeding scare. Granted my triplets didn't share sacs and there were two placentas between the three so my risks were not as high. However it is unlikely they will give you much instruction on dietary guidelines except for eat lots if protein and most likely cut caffeine. Also they can't monitor transfusion issues until 16 weeks. I am sorry it is a very stressful situation though and hopefully you can see someone soon.

Side note- who delivered your babies? My OB won't do it. It sounds like some MFMs do deliver. Who did the actual delivery for you? It's nice to find another triplet mom.

Oh and no lifting over 10 pounds my entire pregnancy was my restriction. Bed rest was on the table if my cervix showed signs of shortening too much or swelling got too bad, but neither happened. All my scans were done by my MFM, but I also saw my OB one to two times a month for shots and gd testing. Also with triplets vaginal birth is automatically out and the MFMs only attend the delivery if complications are present before delivery or they are extremely premature in our practice. My OB however does have experience with triplet births as does the second OB that helped with the delivery. My kids had three nurses a piece in the OR and a NICU doctor.

nerdykitten Yikes, I have a DD who is 11 months and I definitely carry her around. I've been trying not to carry her more than necessary but I won't be able to avoid it completely. That worries me that the OB still did the c-section since mine said he won't be involved. I guess I'll have to look for a new OB that will take on a triplet pregnancy? A friend of mine gave me a name but I don't know if he takes my insurance also looking at his website I got turned off because he seems like he's trying to be a jack of all trades vs. sticking to an area of expertise. He advertised himself as performing fertility treatments, liposuction, , laparoscopy, OB Gyn & high risk. That just made me raise my eyebrows. I doubt he's a RE, OB GYN, MFM & plastic surgeon.

fightersince83 It could be the MFMs with privileges at your hospital might do deliveries. If not then hopefully they could guide you to someone they thought was capable of the task.
