Now that our babies are older, are any of you still waking them to eat?
For those who bottle feed, do you offer more ounces during the day?
The only time I wake her is if she's been sleeping for 3 hours starting after 3 pm. Generally I buy into the "sleep begets sleep." But DD has shown that she will start her longest stretch of sleep as early as 3:30 if we let her and I don't want that. She doesn't nap that long very often though, so it's rarely an issue.
Is there some sort of 12-week growth spurt/leap/regression, or did someone steal my calm happy babies and replace them with screaming, hungry look-alikes?
Growth spurt and Wonder Week. It's like winning the fussy baby lottery!
We are here too.
I sort of thought winning the lottery would be more fun... :-P

Wow! Yeah, that makes sense.
E started his long sleep at 4:45... it's 9:20 now and he's still going! I decided to just see what would happen, but it is a bit early to start bedtime.
So yeah, I go back to work tomorrow. 😕 I've been off for 15 weeks and it's just flown by.
Are you going back full time?
Part time! I'll be working W Th F, so I think it's actually going to be great. I'm looking forward to being able to eat lunch in peace three days a week! 😝
bocaburgergratefulgirl we are here too. Are yours also not nursing as well or getting Fussy with feeding? Also, not sleeping without being held?
YES!!!! G has been sooo fussy with eating and it makes feeding her so much more difficult. We've been dealing with the no naps if they're not being held for a couple weeks already but the fussiness has super ramped up this week... even for M who has a much calmer disposition in general.
Sorry you're dealing with this too, hope we all get through it quickly!

Distractible eating and demanding to nurse all day here. She naps in the crib, but 20-40 minutes and then she is a mess by late afternoon. I just can't hold her for most naps or I would do she'd sleep. Dinner is fun. Up more at night too.
The 12-week bizarro fest continues in the Boca household. Yesterday evening was a chorus of screaming right up until they passed out... then we actually had a great night with G STTN and only one wakeup for M. They both woke up cheerful and I thought yesterday had been a fluke but in the past hour they proved me wrong! Thankfully both just fell asleep about 5 minutes ago so I am going to sip my coffee and take a breather.
How/when does nap consolidation happen? Up to this point we have not been on any sort of a nap schedule, and we just let them fall asleep whenever and wherever. This morning M went on a complete nap strike and was awake for 3.5 straight hours!!! He is now finally asleep thanks to the swing, wubbanub, lovey, stuffed dinosaur, and music. I'm wondering if this is just temporary or if it means he is starting to phase out his first nap.
bocaburger last night was not great. He cried when starting to nurse everytime (but he did do three hour stretches). He slept okay though. Usually he wakes up for the day during the 8 AM hour, but it's 9 AM and he's still sleeping (on me, ha).
Sorry that your day isn't going too well! It's so frustrating when you think things are back to normal and they're not.
We only have a loose nap schedule (morning, noon, afternoon) for now. It's pretty much based on when the older one naps, but it helps keep our days on track. The afternoon nap is hardest to fit in, but I'll wear her during some outside activity or while I prep dinner if necessary.
To the moms with long hair - O always seems to have strands of my hair clenched in her hands. Today I noticed one was tightly wrapped around her finger. It wasn't turning purple or anything, but when I took it off, she definitely had a dent in her finger. Just something to look out for!
I'm not sure what happened to my kid today. He's usually not a good napper, 15-20 min at a time with the occasional long nap (that would be 45 min). Well today he took a 1 hour nap in the morning, was awake for 50 min and then fell asleep again (during a walk). He stayed asleep for 1 hour 25 min, didn't even wake up when we went inside. I had to wake him to feed him and honestly he was pretty much half asleep during the whole feeding. About 50 min later he was asleep again though only for his usual 15 min. And he took another half hour nap not much later. He's happy kicking and playing with the toys on his play mat now so I know he's ok. But what's up with all the sleeping??
Now I'm worried he won't sleep tonight. I know sleep begets sleep but I feel like there must be a limit to that..?
Sounds like a growth spurt. Let him sleep If it helps, DD always sleeps best the nights following a day of lots of napping. Sleep definitely begets sleep for her.

My first was a terrible napper and I never found on the days she did nap that it meant anything for night time sleep. Meaning it didn't impact it in a bad way. She still slept at night. Your DS could be at the tail end of a growth spurt..the sleeping part.

bocaburger - last night was weird. Bed at 7, up at 8 for a few paci pops (I tried feeding too), up at 1 to eat, but then sleep until 6:45, ate, back down until 8. The second longish stretch was unexpected.
Finishing maternity leave with a bang. Took the little two to the museums downtown with an old college friend and her kids. So fun, though we barely made it back for preschool pick up. Tomorrow is back to uninterrupted lunches, quiet work time, pumping, and insane evenings.

No nap schedule at all here. 1 hour to 1.25 hours after wake up she sleeps again. 4 naps because she short naps.
DD1 went by wake times until almost 18 mo. It was a pain. DD2 followed the Weissbluth nap schedule starting around 6.5 mo. I find my kids short nap until I can push them onto 2 naps and keep them awake for 3 hour stretches, which has been after 6 mo.
I've known for a long time she'll do whatever she wants with her grandkids, she does with my nieces. Like when she gave my then 1 year old niece sips of margarita knowing that SIL and BIL wouldn't be happy about it. And I probably am a controlling FTM but that annoys me and I don't want to let her watch DD until she's older. I don't expect that grandparents will be as strict about things or follow all the same rules as our house, but I don't like the complete disregard for the parents wishes, esp since the recommendations for some things have changed (extended rear-facing, etc.).
Tell me to get over it and my kid will be fine if my ILs watch her occasionally.

I have had to take my parents to task on stuff. I have limits. Safety rules should not be broken (though my mom flakes out and forgets sometimes, sigh). Spoiling is sort of ok. But honestly if my parents followed our rules on sleep better and my mom did not forget things like tightening the car seat they would see my kids more.
I just don't know how to respectfully explain that.
