We're having my H's cousin and family over next Sunday for a little afternoon holiday gathering. I said we would just do finger food, but now I'm blanking on what to make. Any great ideas?
I love baked Brie in pastry with raspberry or other jam. You can either do a big wheel or bite sized individual ones other holiday faces- Bacon wrapped dates, meatballs I do a currant jelly based sauce- nice and tangy, cheese and olive tray, egg rolls, nachos, what about one of those wheels you always see posted on facebook I saw a Philly cheesesteak one that looked easy and amazing. But you could do a pizza one or whatever, along same lines the garlic cheese bread. Oh my Gourd I am so hungry now!!!!
S had to go to school in pajama pants. #momfail the dryer did not dry properly so all of his jeans were still damp after I washed them last night. Which I would've known if I had done the laundry early enough that the dryer was finished before I went to bed.
NellieOleson I always blank on what to make for finger foods. I have tons of ideas on pinterest, but I never plan in advance
Lollipop - We are opposites. I always plan in advance, but am terrible at Pinterest.
The problem is, I pin all of these recipes and then forget to buy the stuff to make them. I need to start remembering to write down the ingredients before going to the store.
kcrkcs - what are these Facebook wheels you speak of? I quit FB about 5 years ago, and now I know nothing about anyone or anything.
Those are all great ideas. Bacon wrapped dates.... yummmmmmmmmmmmmy.
I will see if I can linky but essentially you get a roll of pastry dough like pillsbury spread out in circle and then you put on for philly steak- beef onion green pepper and mozerrella or in the case of pizza- sauce cheese toppings of choice... I am sure you can see how many good directions this could go... and then you fold over the dough and it makes a wreath of yummy, which you then paint with butter (garlic butter would be better) and bake. If it's something you dip you could put a bowl of appropriate dipping sauce in center of caloriedoomwheeloftastebudwonderment.
Super easy and always a winner: spinach dip in a bread bowl. Serve with crudités and extra bread. Also, bruschetta with tomato, garlic and basil or you could do like a pear and blue cheese type one. Other options, mini meatballs with cranberry relish, a good charcuterie board, or even a 7 layer taco dip
DS's first birthday is TOMORROW. WTF?!?!?! I am going to cry. My sweet sweet boy.
We are having some of DH's friends over for food and drinks and cake. I am going to make mixed green salad, fruit salad, snack mix, bagel dogs, crescent rolls, rice, green beans, broccoli, grilled chicken, frozen pizzas, cookie tray, and will pick up a birthday cake. His friends are bringing booze so at least I don't have to worry about that. Should be lots of fun!

Amazing ideas! My inspiration is coming back. Now if dd2 would let me get some sleep, I might actually start planning this thing for reals.
Also, teething can eat my shorts. Seriously. So so tired.
Oh! And I think we need to get a new Christmas tree. Ours is a total dud. We usually go to the farm to get one, but this year my H picked one up at a random tree lot because I was sick and didn't want to go hang out outside while he sawed down a tree. Anyway, this thing is dead already, dropping needles like crazy. I don't think I can stand having it up for another 2+ weeks, but taking it down and buying a new tree also sounds completely crazy.
A female friend of H's from awhile back juts added me on FB. She hated me on sight when we met almost 7 years ago, so I was understandably confused. Turns out her boyfriend (also a friend of H's, who set H and I up in the first place) is missing his buddies, since they hooked up he stopped hanging out with most of them. So it seems that she added me in the hopes that we can all hang out.

NellieOleson, we're doing something similar with my ILs when they come to our house for NYE. My extended family has done finger foods and 2 soups for years for our xmas gatherings and I think it's a great system. I think my ILs will be skeptical, but oh well. My house, my rules. It's just so nice that not everyone has to sit down at exactly the same time to eat. With lots of LOs running around, one parent can eat while the other entertains the kiddos, then a kiddo can nibble a little and come back later and nibble some more.
We're planning 2 soups: vegetable bean soup (it's pureed so creamy yumminess) and probably chicken broccoli cheese soup with wild rice, but I'm trying out that recipe for the first time today to see if it will actually make the cut.
The finger foods we're contributing will be ham/cream cheese/pickle rolls (lay out slice of ham, spread with cream cheese, put pickle in and roll it up, stick in a bunch of toothpicks and cut into slices), spinach/artichoke dip with veggies and crackers, and garlic parmesan baguettes.
NellieOleson - a few favourites in the tartan household include: a seafood dip (shrimp, seafood sauce, shredded cheese, cream cheese/sour cream/mayo base) with crackers, Samosas from East Indian shop, home made jalapeño poppers (jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon and cooked in the oven), pulled pork sandwiches/sliders, black bean dip with salsa and tortilla chips
When we have a crowd, I tend to cook pulled pork since it is very reasonable, easy to prepare and it's delicious!
You all are making me hungry for apps! We have fondue on Christmas Eve and it's just dh and the kids so it's fun. Christmas Day my uncle hosts so I just have to bring a heavy app.

Has anyone done any Gymboree classes? Thinking of signing up the dd's for a music class, but kind of waffling about it. (Seems overpriced and kind of an annoying drive to get there.)

This seems so weird. Why wouldn't she just send a message instead of a friend request? And did she tell you her motivations or did you do some sleuthing through other friends?

Oh my, you ladies are making me hungry! 😋 I want all this food. I haven't eaten anything substantial in a couple days. I haven't talked about this because I have been SO anxiety ridden over it but I had surgery yesterday. I had to have a partial hysterectomy due to some issues I've been having. I have been in complete denial and also scared out of my fucking mind. I thought for sure I'd die in surgery and leave my babies motherless. It's been a rough few weeks.
But the worst is over and I'm glad it's done. Now time for recovery. I'm in quite a bit of pain. I can't lift DD for 2 weeks so that will be interesting. H is done with school for the semester and taking on all the major kid duties. It's been one day and I can tell he is already frustrating which...seriously? He's capable but I really do hope he realizes how hard it is on me when he is buried in school and I'm taking care of everything.
Poor Nolan just can't get over this fever virus. Went to the ped just to make sure it wasn't anything else, and he confirmed what I thought. Just a virus and keep doing what we are doing. So no sleep. I'm exhausted. Luckily the girls haven't caught it yet.

@scopioscuba. I had a hyst in sept. Listen to the restrictions. I was moments away from another surgery due to not listening and lifting etc. I tore all my internal stitches and almost hemmoraged. The first three days were the worst for me. I'll be praying for yall!

I was speculating with my sister, and then mentioned it to a mutual friend of hers and ours and he said that her boyfriend was missing his boyfriend (H). So we put 2 and 2 together. I think she friended me instead of messaging because she figured I wouldn't respond to it. I think she thinks I hated her too.

scorpioscuba - I hope your recovery goes well! Having the surgery sounds scary and stressful, but I'm glad it's behind you and you can work on feeling better.
