So I enrolled M into a daycare for September. It's pretty popular in my community and they pride themselves in having a strong curriculum. I wasn't sold on them because I'm big on play at the forefront, but after exhausting other options in the neighborhood, I toured there and had a pretty good feeling, so I signed him up. Also, I know a few other people who sent their kids there and were very happy. But again, they say their 3 year olds follow 4 year old learning standards, and the 4 year olds follow K learning standards, since they like to "prep" their 4- year-olds to get into Gifted and Talented in Kindergarten, because, that's what typical Russians care about, being the best of the best.
I had scheduled another daycare tour that has a more play-centered montessori philosophy, but got deterred when they said they admissions had a 3 phase process. First tour and meet with the director, then, on a separate day, bring in your child to participate in a mini lesson, and then meet again a third time, to determine admission. I emailed the admissions coordinator cancelling my tour and they've reached out to me asking if I would share why since they're constantly striving to improve their program. So I told the admissions officer that their admissions process made me anxious, that my child doesn't do well with strangers, and based on that, they'd probably not want him anyway. Last night the director of the school emails me directly asking me to come in, that they want to meet us, and play and just get to know M. It's a much smaller program but also teach Jewish values, which I'm not thrilled about because I'd rather a secular program.
Do you guys want to help me decide? Should I reconsider this program? I can share links lol.
