Oh britta so sorry about the crap napping from both kids. It makes me so ragey when I don't get even a halfway decent nap from the toddler. I hope at the very least everyone simmers down and behaves the rest of the day if they're gonna be awake.
Took DS and DD to get their haircut this morning. First time for DD. She was awesome. Not one "owie" as she got her hair combed and no whining. Such a big girl.
We went to the local cosmetology school. Neither student cut very much off their hair. I kept saying to the stylist for DD that I wanted to even out all the "baby layers" and I wasn't afraid of going too short because it grows fast. She still only took a quarter of an inch off. Oh well, it still looks cleaner.
And the stylist for DS was definitely new. Very slow and methodical. Also didn't cut very much off despite telling her it had been 6-7 weeks since his last haircut. Thankfully the instructor came in and trimmed more off the front so we're not heading back for another cut in two weeks.
Not sure if we'll go back based on this experience. Or I've learned my lesson and I'll be more assertive about how short I want it. If we do go back, we'll likely go on a Monday for $5 kids' cuts:)

Thanks. Got them both down. DS2 woke up screaming after less than a half hour. DS1 slept for an hour. That's par for the course for him. If he misses out on a good night's sleep for some reason, he usually doesn't play catch up until day 2. I suspect he'll either "sleep in" tomorrow or take a really good nap. That's fine. MMCH is parenting him right because I don't know what to do with the baby. This is awful.
No snow here. Just cold. Although highs are in the teens today instead of single digits like the last few days. Feels like a heat wave. If it's going to be cold, I'd like some snow so it's pretty too.
DD2 is watching this Girl Meets World special where they answer questions and interact with an audience full of fans and it's giving me all the feels. I should not be tearing up over this. LOL
I just tried putting together the Fisher Price Bright Beats Touch Play Space toy that DS got for Christmas. Once I got to where you have to start using screws and I said "Screw this." I can't get the screws to go in and the screwdriver is hurting my hand. DH can do it. I'm drinking my beer.
I'm so glad we don't have anywhere we need to go today. I'm seeing reports of accidents all over the place, including an at least 25 car pile-up.
At what age can we start giving Tylenol? I thought it was 4 months?
I don't know what to do for DS2. He's been crying all day. I've tried gas drops and Gripe water. He's dry. I've fed him anytime he acts hungry and on his normal schedule. He hasn't slept more than an hour total he woke up. He doesn't seem sick or febrile. I'm at a loss here. Suggestions?

britta, I'm so sorry! We were given the okay for Tylenol after his shots at his 6 week appointment. If you need the dosing, let me know. Our pedi put a chart in the book they give for new patients. I hope it helps. Poor little guy and poor mama!

Does he like bath time? A bath helps calm DD down when she's a crazy pants. And yes, you can give Tylenol. I gave it to DD after her 2m visit with her vaccines.

Still snowing here. I have a ton of laundry to fold and no desire to do it. N did not nap but he played quietly in his room. G set in the swing and on me for a while. I'm about to get a frozen pizza intheboven for dinner in hopes that I can eat before G needs to eat again.

I have a dosing chart too, thank though. I just couldn't remember when it was ok to start giving. I didn't think to ask at his 2 month and he was fine after his vaccines so I didn't think about it.
adouces06 he's hit or miss with it. I'm trying to save it for later, hoping it relaxes him and he can pass out for the night.
britta - If you haven't already, strip him naked and check every inch of him, especially for hair tourniquets on his penis and toes. DS was taking Tylenol in the hospital after his circumcision, so you're good to go! I hope he feels better, whatever is going on.
DD2 is in a foul, foul mood right now. But, I cannot stop laughing at the things she is saying. I'm trying really hard not to let her see me, but now DH is having trouble not laughing because he can see me hiding behind my laptop. It's time to escape into the kitchen and finish making dinner.
jwinct I thought about that just a little bit ago, actually. Fingers and toes are good. I'll have to give a good look over next time I change his diaper.
He's semi-chill in his bouncy seat right now, I think in a little bit (or the next time he starts freaking out) I'm going to give Tylenol and a bath and try to get him to sleep.
Thanks everyone.
ETA: I txt my mom. She thinks teething is a possibility. DS1's first tooth broke through the skin on the day he was 4 months, so maybe not too far fetched? I don't know what to think at this point. Unless 3 month growth spurt maybe.
ETA #2: Would it be in poor form to have a beer while solo parenting with 2 kids? Asking for a friend, of course.
britta I've already given Tylenol to baby. Maybe I'm an a-hole, but I'd definitely try a dose if he would not settle down at all. And I would DEFINITELY have a beer or wine. Just one, but I would enjoy the F out of it.
britta tell your friend a beer is a must, especially on days when you are exposed to excessive crying/fussiness.
And I don't think teething is crazy. DD has been chomping on her hands and fussier lately. I've been checking her gums daily and I can feel a bump growing!

Same. And drooling like crazy.
Thanks all. My friend said she's about to enjoy an ice *cold beer.
I'm not solo parenting today, but I've had 3 icy cold beers so far. And I'm about to get another.
My girls both teethed very early (and then started losing teeth really early), so it would not surprise me if DS does, too. He's been drooling and chomping on everything like crazy, so I do wonder.

britta do you have a swing? Try that if you do. The swing can work wonders. Based on my experience with #1 who was a hot mess for her first three months, crap naps cause crappier naps. She would do those horrible 30 minute naps and then just get more and more mad. Also check out preciouslittlesleep.com and see if there is any advice on there that helps.
ETA: I just looked back and saw what you said about crying in the swing. With #1 she acted like she hated the swing for weeks and then one day I just kept her in it and kept giving her the paci and she all of a sudden loved it and would sleep forever in it.
britta I still swaddle DD during the day When she seems like a hot mess, especially if she hasn't slept well. She'll act like she hates it for a good 10 minutes but when she gets all toasty and bounced around from walking around, she usually passes out. Baby boys can also get hair tourniquets around their penis too. Hope he settled for you.

He loves the swing. LOVES. Like, I have to remind myself to take him out of it because he's content to sit in it for hours. He was not feeling it today.

Thanks. I gave him a bath, some Tylenol, and a top off bottle and he's been sleeping in his crib for 40 minutes so far. I really hope he's down for the night.
ETA: We haven't swaddled in a long time. He sleeps spread eagle with his arms above his head and gets pissed when they're held down by anything.
I've been extremely productive today all on 3ish hours of sleep. HL woke up at 4 ate and went to sleep. She woke up AG and AG was up until a little after 6 am. I decided to stay awake because I had a feeling HL would be up soon. Yup... she was up at 730. I wrote my second blog post ever and shared it on Facebook to make it public. I'm so nervous to have my stories out there, but at the same time very excited.
We got 8" of snow here in VA! My girls played for a while in it but my toddler lasted 2 mins bc he immediately took off his mittens to touch the snow. Horrible idea dude but he doesn't listen. At least I didn't have to worry about him wanting to go back outside. Every time he went by a door or window he said 'snow cold brrr!' The exhaustion finally caught up to me last night and I felt yucky all night and had to get my H up to deal with the baby after I fed her at 530. Slept til 8 and tried eating some toast and took a Motrin. Got a nap while the toddler napped at 1 and then finally felt better. Got invited to neighbors for 'informal tea' with some of the women in our neighborhood. Nice no kid time .
So. I had DS1 in bed by 7. He came out of his room twice talking about being scared of the dark and his belly hurting (read: playing games). The last time I heard him was 7:45. He slept until 7. DS2 slept from 7:30ish until 6, ate and went back down, and is still sleeping now. A good night's sleep did well for me.
