This morning I took both kids to a play cafe with friends and the oldest was a nightmare. I knew to put him in pull-ups for that situation and he pooped twice while we were there. Had to haul baby in the bucket seat into the bathroom. And every time I tried to help DS with something, someone else's damn kid was all up in the bucket seat trying to touch the baby and of course other moms aren't watching their kids. I wish I had not gone out. I don't normally say that. But today, yes.
I am just over here trying to get my supply to bounce back from having food poisoning. I ended getting super dehydrated from all the throwing up. My supply is essentially non-existent. I am drinking all the Gatorade, and just finished pumping while nursing DD (which is way harder than it sounds). I hope I can get it back to normal. Probably going to break out the pump a couple more times today, and pump a few more times than normal tomorrow. I have so much to do around the house, and being sick the past two days didn't help!

Normally pumping is good for supply but you may just need to hydrate and rest completely before trying to up supply. You don't want to take any fluid away right now. Just drink drink drink.

That's what I have been trying to do. I have been pounding gatorades and water all day long just to get fully hydrated.
Well nothing currently. I just finished a hat and granny square carseat blanket for a friend's baby shower. I also did a hat for LO. I want to do another carseat sized blanket, but in a ripple pattern which I haven't done before. Today I ended up doing laundry and playing with LO. So maybe I'll start tomorrow. I love picking colors for each new project.
Has anything changed with foods since my first? Are they still saying Bf babies should wait until 6 months for solids? Anyone doing baby led weaning? I would love to skip purees
I was thinking of doing a combo. Or just moving onto soft steamed foods sooner than I did with dd1. I prolly won't wait until 6 months. I think I awarded at like 5 months this with dd1? If sleep goes to shit I know I'll try on the earlier end.

We did blw with DD and I plan to do that again if it works for DS2 (DS1 wouldn't have anything to do with it). I've forgotten how to get started. Like, what foods I started with. I think bananas and avocado?
Anyway, I don't know of any changes in recommendations. I've heard any where from 4-6 months. Because of blw, I'll wait until closer to 6 months. I found solids way more exciting with my first. It was such a chore with #2 so I'm sure I'll be even less motivated with #3! Although we made all our own baby food with DS1 so not having to puree everything for DD was very nice.
We've been purging and organizing our home office this morning. I can't believe how much shit gets accumulated and hoarded. H made me throw away everything in my "nurse bag", which included 10 years worth of notes, inservice, and training materials for work...if you can imagine. He's like, "Have you referenced it? Ever? I think you've been a nurse long enough you don't need all this." Ok but nostalgia!!! And so. many. pens. And hemostats. I'm terrible. I also found my name badge from way back when I was a CNA. We're talking 13+ years ago people. OMG.
It's so rainy and dreary today. All I really wanna do is nap.
Maybe it's a nurse thing. I just got rid of the exact same bag. And i was hoarding about a million pens and hemostats. And old badges. Lol.
I'm around. Busy morning. Everyone in the house is sick except for me. Ds had been down for his nap for almost 3 hours. DD is eating 4 oz every 2-2.5 hrs today. I feel like Ive done nothing but change diapers and feed one or both kids all day long aha.

Purees are the worst. You'll find none in my house unless DS doesn't seem interested in food at 9 months (unlikely). I won't claim to do blw since I haven't read the book... I'll just start letting him eat at 6 months. Probably not before because mess and stinky poops.
I enjoyed making baby food. Except for chicken. Pureed chicken is disgusting.

I bought most of the baby food with DS1 because no time and the thought of meat in a blender grossed me out. But I think I'm too much of a worrier for BLW.

Well this was my question. There's so many rules to blw about how the food is prepared and cut and how hard it has to be so theydont choke. I want to really just be able to give the baby like soft foods but idk if that's dangerous. Like if I just give cooked peas will he choke? Do I have to mash them?

All the Christmas stuff is down and back in the garage. Mr. P put up my pantry, but not the doors because he was done. He says maybe they'll never go on. I will probably put them on at some point if he doesn't. I have to go through my kitchen stuff that has been in boxes since we moved in because I have no storage space in the kitchen.
I'd do bacitracin and warm compresses. Because baby, I'd probably give it 24-48 hours to improve before calling, although I'm not sure they would do anything differently.
If it starts tracking in a line up his toe towards his foot, I'd call ASAP.

becole pretty much ditto britta, soaks and bacitracin. If no improvement or red lines or fever go in. I'd give it like a day. My office atleast is pretty quick to treat it, paronychia, in infants.

I don't know how long it's been that way but I noticed it giving him a bath last night. How would they treat it? I know when I had a toenail like that, they lanced the pus and told me to soak it in epsom. His doesn't really seem to have a pus pocket yet. Just red and swollen on the corner. I did the ointment last night and today. I'll try soaking it again in soapy warm water.

My office does oral antibiotics. I think because infants are so small, infection can travel fast?

So DS2 has a pretty junky cough and is still congested. No fever though. I really hope this is the worst and we have a better night, especially because H is gone to work now. We're also supposed to meet my work friend (and fellow IRL O16 mom) at a trampoline park tomorrow. We'll see how tonight goes I guess.
I started this a couple hours ago and just finished. I don't remember what else I was going to say.

I....fed DS1 Gerber purees. We started them at 4 months and he wasn't a fan, so we waited a couple weeks and tried again. I had/have no desire to make my own. UO?
Truth be told, he wasn't on them long before we just started giving mashed up or small bites of a lot of things we were eating. Nowadays he has a palate that is pretty...not normal for a 3 year old. There are very few things he doesn't care for and actually eats better than I do I think.

We did a lot of that as well. Pretty early on I'd mash up our meals if it was conducive, and she had a diverse range of tastes. Now she's a typical toddler, and I have to coerce her to eat anything besides dairy products and sweets.
I swear he's broken sometimes. He will have nothing to do with mac and cheese, prefers white milk to chocolate any day of the week, and asks for "baby tomatoes" for snacks.
When we're at restaurants, servers are shocked when he asks for broccoli instead of fries. Broken, I tell you.
We did all purees with DS, since I had the new mom phobia of assuming my child would choke on anything except purees. I do regret it. DS has a major issue with textures when eating, and I think it has a lot to do with eating just purees for so long. He also hates veggies, and I fed him way more fruit purees than veggie. I know it could all be coincidental, but it is enough to make me rethink how to introduce solids with DD. I will probably do a combo of some purees as well as mashed bits of our meals, that way she has options and hopefully ends up liking more foods than her brother.
adouces06 our experience could all be coincidental too, but our pediatrician cautioned us against fruit purees early on. He said, to quote, "your moms and grandmas will tell you to start with fruit and mix it in cereal, but you'll find that they then prefer the sweet taste and don't want anything to do with veggies." So, we waited to give fruit until DS1 had tried all the veggies and was eating them consistently. Even after starting fruit, we always gave veggies first. As a toddler we did the same, with lunch he'd get a handful of mixed veggies before he got the other parts of his meal. Of course now at three we can put his whole meal on a plate, and it's still not a fight to get him to eat the veggies.
And FTR, our pedi was right. My mom thought we were nuts, depriving the poor babe of fruit. She doesn't think it's so crazy now. Legit, the only veggie he truly doesn't care for his Lima beans. My sister (who started with fruit with both her kids long before trying veggies) has two kids who will eat corn. That's it.
