Last night went slightly better than the night before. DS2 only woke once coughing and congested and was difficult to put back down. He woke at 6:15 again and actually ate, and is still sleeping now. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. He went to bed a little after 8 last night.
DS1 was up at 5:15 because of thunderstorms. In January. In MI.
We're supposed to meet my IRL friend and her kids at a trampoline park today. She text me yesterday afternoon to see if we were still on or if we wanted to "wait and see how the kids and roads are." I got the feeling she was wanting to back out. I text her a little bit ago and am waiting to see what she says.
britta - I'm glad your night went a little better. It sounds like he's started to get better, os I'd let him sleep and get plenty of rest.
We were able to keep DS up until a little past 8pm last night and he woke up at 5:30 (with one wake-up to eat at 2am), so his max total nighttime sleep capacity is officially around 9 hours. He had fallen asleep on the way home from my parents' house, around 5:30, and I woke him up at like 6:50. He was happy as could be for a little while, but still really tired...yawning and rubbing his eyes. I wasn't sure we'd be able to keep him up.
I took DD2 to the orthodontist to get spacers put in, in preparation for the installation of her palate expander in three weeks. Next Tuesday, she has to go get the molds and x-rays taken for it. She already has braces, so hopefully when they install the expander it won't be too bad for her. DD1 had it in 1st grade and had no issues with it at all, and only experienced pain/pressure in her nose when I turned the key the first couple of times and that was it. DD2 is in 2nd grade, but she is a major drama queen, so I'm kind of dreading this.
Oh no @kitchen . I hope it is just a phase... eta: Did I read that wrong? Now after britta's comment I think I did.
britta I hope this thing your DS2 has passes soon Poor kiddo.
jwinct I still remember my mom needing to turn the key in my spacer. One time we stayed at my Aunt's and my mom had to come over just to turn the key. I can't believe they still do that.
* I didn't sleep well last night at all despite everyone else being asleep.
* I was tossing and turning thinking of if it is better to be the oldest or youngest in your class.
* I hate being indecisive.
* Mr. P votes oldest because he was so I think that is what we're going to do.
* I called our college's small business center to ask them how I can continue to make Mom Bags for the mom's staying at The Ronald McDonald House and raise funds, etc. legally without necessarily becoming a non-profit. I just feel moved to keep doing it.

@kitchen, I think I have something in my eye. I can't imagine how thrilled you must have been to see that.
N is at school today, and we brought G to the infant room to meet his teachers. He went right to one of them and probably would have fallen asleep in her arms if we had stayed longer. I know he's going to be fine, but I'm still sad about him starting this week. We're finally talk the tree down today. No other real plans.
jwinct, hopefully she'll surprise you and do okay with it.
penguin129, I struggle with the oldest/youngest thing too. I started kindergarten at 6 (late August birthday) and was one of the oldest. I ended up skipping a grade later on and was one of the youngest. MH missed his cutoff with a late October birthday and was always one of the oldest. The only time being the youngest really bothered me was in college, when all of my friends could go to the bar and I couldn't lol. This is on my mind too with N turning 5 this summer and kindergarten registration coming up soon.
Just me and the miss today! she slept from 1030-430...her longest stretch in a while! Its supposed to be freezing rain later, I have no real plans today but haven't moved off the couch as DD is sleeping on me and I love the snuggles. I do need to clean a bit and stuff diapers.
So DD only eats 4oz bottles. If she eats more she refluxes a lot. i seem to recall DS eating way bigger bottles at this point. DD is 12ish ;bs and eats between 24-30 oz/day. During the day she eats every 2-3 hrs. Normal?

Going to be a busy, but short week at work. Both kids were cool at home yesterday, so I'm hoping the day off with the Friday is good as well.
I don't know what DS2 is up to with his whining and noise making every hour overnight, but it's killing me. As a STM, I feel like I should know what to ignore and what to tend to, but I don't. Last night, he was asleep by 8:30, then I fed him again around midnight. Until 6am, he was noisy and needed the pacifier but didn't cry much or seem awake so I didn't feed him. He (and I) seriously slept better when he was a newborn.

@snuff9861 4 oz every 2-3 hours sounds normal. DS2 takes about that much in the same time frame during the day (plus more in morning/at night, so if guess he's around 32oz daily)
@snuff9861 - It's supposed to be freezing rain or a wintery mix here later and I'm hoping it holds off until I get home. I hate having to drive 10 miles in that crap to get DS and then drive another 10 miles to get home.
penguin129 - The key is different now than it was when I was a kid. It used to look like a key and turn like a key, but now it's like a little stick that you put into the hole and ratchet the thing down. I would imagine it's easier now than it was when my mom was turning the key on mine and my sister's. I only had a problem one time, when I didn't put the key in far enough and started to ratchet it down and the key slipped out and stabbed DD1 in the roof of the mouth. I felt so bad!
I found this picture of what it looks like these days. Maybe it's the same as when you had it... I sometimes forget I'm quite a bit older than some of the other ladies on this board.

@kitchen That is too sweet!
Sleep seems to be regressing here. DS was up twice last night and wanting to chat. He's been eating a lot a lot, so a nice big feed before bed isn't helping at all. He's eating upwards of 30oz a day now. Also refusing to nap this morning - just wants to be carried everywhere, my mom and I can't seem to keep him happy.
Cute thing for DH though - DS is apparently starting to recognize us and disliking when we leave a room, especially DH. It's very gratifying for him.
So I woke DS2 up around 10:15. I just...was having anxiety thinking about how he'll never sleep tonight if he sleeps all day. He was pissed at first because he was all congested, but after I suctioned him and got him upright he gave me some smiles. I tried to feed him around 10:30ish and he took 3ish oz over 40 minutes. Then he promptly puked a bunch of it back up. He wanted back to bed by 12 and is still sleeping now.
My sleep tonight is going to be hit. FML.
ETA: we ended up skipping the trampoline park with my friend. Both of us kind of hemmed and hawed and decided maybe next week would be better. I'm somewhat relieved, but also feel cooped up.
Both boys are October babies and September is the school cut off around here.
For actual school, I plan to keep them in the year they technically should be in and have them be older kids. I wouldn't redshirt a child unless it was clearly necessary, but I'm also not going to push for the boys to be a grade ahead. If they end up skipping a grade at some point, then so be it.
This year at daycare, I did push for DS1 to move up early to the younger preschool group (2-3 year olds). They would have moved him up shortly after he turned 2 in October, but they were starting a new "year" in September, and I didn't want to have DS1 change classrooms right at the same time that DS2 was born. So DS1 is the youngest in his preschool group. It was a little rough at first because he didn't have the language skills of the other kids and would get frustrated and grab toys or hit. But his verbal skills have made leaps and bounds and he's settled in well. And he was better off in the preschool class than in the toddler room. When he was the oldest in the toddler room, he got bored and would get into trouble constantly (trying to escape the room, climbing things he wasn't supposed to climb, etc.).

This is exactly what we did with DD1. She's a late September baby and I didn't want her to have too many transitions at the same time. Being exposed to the older kids is good at this young age I think.
I am an October baby and was older than a lot of my classmates and I think it was an advantage. Both my girls will be the oldest due to the sept 1 cutoff.

I have now officially hit day 21 of my period jwinct. You guys, I am so frustrated that I am about to hulk smash something. I am supposed to start my next period in a week per my birth control but...if it never goes away, does it "start" again?
My acne is out of control. I feel like it has to be related to the period issues.
So I am bleeding, have horrible cystic acne all over my face, am 30 lbs overweight, and just went back to work with like 3 outfits that fit. I am in a GREAT mood.
ksyknelvr73 Sorry for the 21 day period. I hope it ends soon.
Thank you - also I didn't forget about you (the fitbit), I just haven't had a free moment to ship it. It's fully charged and ready to go, I just need to ship it. I think I will get it out to you on Friday b/c I am going to be working from home and will be able to run over to the post office. I'm sorry for the delay!

I'm glad you said something. My mailbox has been open a few days and I couldn't tell if it was falling open or someone was stealing our mail. Good to know it wasn't shipped and taken. I knew you were busy with going back to work. My birthday is next week so your timing is perfect

LT for solidarity. I can't speak to the 21 day period, but +1 to acne and overweight-ness. And the GREAT mood. Hugs.

We had a busy weekend. First time traveling with all 4. Went to my mom's house for my brother's engagement get together and we celebrated my little boy's 2nd birthday. His 2nd year went by so fast since we found out we were pregnant, sold our house, moved to new house and had a baby! He got a ton of trucks/tractors bc he's obsessed with all things with wheels.
I've been busy since we got back bc I finally took the plunge to become an Usborne consultant. I totally nerd out over their books. My kids got so many for Christmas this year. Way better than extra toys IMO. Anyways I've been busy getting things in order for that.
Hoping to catch up with all the comments from the weekend!
TTMA about babies being sick this young. DD had a cold last week, runny nose with green snot but no fever. DS also had a cold so I figured he gave it to her. Now DD has a wet cough, but no runny nose and no fever. Today she was crabby and hasnt eaten as much as she normally does. But still pooped and wetting the appropriate amount of diapers. The cough is what concerns me. What say O'16?
