I'm going to check in here too
How's it going? Good!
Anything that's still a problem? Wish I felt like I could NIP without a cover. Doesn't bother me, but I feel like it would cause more problems than it's worth... Any advice/experience?
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? I'm really scared about the six week growth spurt coming up (LO is 4.5 weeks). Someone prepare me, what should I expect? He has been doing so well with eating/sleeping....
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? Not going back, but have started pumping occasionally for bottles for date nights. The other morning when DH gave a leftover bottle from date night so I wouldn't have to toss it, I pumped 5 oz in 5 minutes!
Who wants to start this check in every week or so? I've never started a post before, but I would be open to starting this and the first 6 weeks check in if no one else volunteers Just let me know!
How's it going? Fairly well. I have developed a small oversupply, so LO acts like he's drowning sometimes. It's a balancing act between pumping for a small stash and creating an oversupply.
Anything that's still a problem? I am having issues with NIP still. LO doesn't like his head covered, so he screams and won't stay latched, but everyone in my family thinks we have to cover up. When we're out, I usually end up going to hide somewhere so he can eat in peace. I wish they would all calm down and realize that I don't care if someone sees my boob. I feel like I am pretty discreet, so if someone sees something, they were looking for it.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? LO is 8 weeks, so we survived the 6 week one - hooray!
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? I return to work in about 3 weeks. I've started pumping one time in the morning after around 3 weeks, but developed an oversupply so I'm cutting back to about every other morning to try to manage it.
Who wants to start this check in every week or so? I will participate, but don't trust myself to remember to start one every week.
I know how you feel about the NIP thing! I totally show less when nursing than how some women dress all the time... Why does there have to be such a fascination/stigma associated with feeding my baby?

I initially had this problem too. I kept the cover with me, and when family asked me where it was I would hand it to them and tell them they could cover their face if they were that uncomfortable ? I said it in a joking manner, but it only took once for people to stop caring.
Also, in the beginning I felt more comfortable NIP around complete strangers then my family/friends. It only took a few times for me to get over it. DS is almost 13 months and we still NIP where ever and without a cover. Just pretend it doesn't bother you, even if it makes you nervous. I found that when people thought I was confident NIP, no one said anything!
How's it going? It's going pretty good! DD is 12 weeks today.
Anything that's still a problem? I'm always worried about supply even though she's gaining fine and has enough diapers. Lately she's doing this thrashing and getting frustrated while eating. I don't know if its a burp or what but I keep wondering if my supply is dwindling.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? Maybe that's the problem with her lately. Is there one at 12 weeks??
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? Going back to work in May, I'm taking a 6 month leave. I was pumping in the beginning but stopped, I'm not sure when to start up again.
TTC ~ May 2010
Unexplained infertility ~ June 2011
3 IUIs, 1 m/c & 1 IVF = a baby boy on 8.18.12
A surprise after 2 failed FETs = baby girl on 11.24.14
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? I'm really scared about the six week growth spurt coming up (LO is 4.5 weeks). Someone prepare me, what should I expect?
For me, this growth spurt started closer to 5.5 weeks. DDs sleeping stayed mostly the same. The biggest change for me was as we approached the end of the day, she wanted to nurse constantly. She would nurse and be fine, but then 15 minutes later be hungry again. No amount of soothing would help besides the boob. I also remember thinking several times that I couldn't possibly have any more milk for her. My boobs felt so empty, but I just kept switching her back and forth between sides until she was satisfied.
This was also around the time when my boobs adjusted to bf a bit more and felt somewhat deflated compared to the last several weeks. This, combined with the afternoon nursing marathons made me panic about my supply, but we got through it just fine.
How's it going? Good actually! LO is 8 weeks tomorrow.
Anything that's still a problem? I haven't attempted NIP yet. It's so cold here that I don't take the baby out much. I think I'd be ok with it (I'll nurse unapologetically when we have visitors) but my husband is uncomfortable about having me NIP. I just know eight weeks into this I'm so used to whipping out my boob I really don't care. I'm going to visit my work on Wednesday and I know between the drive and visit he'll need to eat. For some reason I'm scared of nursing in front of my co-workers, but I think I'd have no problem around strangers. I can probably just use an empty office if I need to.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? Each one better than the one before.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? I go back in April. I only pump occasionally so that I can leave DH with LO for short outings. A hands free bra and larger flanges makes it even easier. I can pump 1.5-2 feedings in about 10 minutes. I have maybe 15 ounces in the freezer, but I'm not trying for a stash yet.
How's it going? Ok. We had a stomach bug pass through our house last week. I was sick Tues. And didn't have much of an appetite weds-fri and my supply, which I had been working hard to increase and get away from supplementing, took a hit. It's finally starting to get back up I think.
Anything that's still a problem? C's latch still isn't awesome, but I've adjusted his position slightly and that seems to help. F doesn't like slow flowing milk so he has really been tugging at my nipple. With being sick, the boys only gained 1.5 and 2.5 oz in 9 days. Will check again this week.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? Seem to be dealing with the 3 month one now. It's been rough because of the illness/low supply.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? I won't go back until Nov.

Also 5oz in 5 mins - you go mama!
This makes me feel better, I can deal with marathon nursing and fussiness in the evenings. Sometimes LO is like that anyways! LoL I always just say he is filling up for his long sleep

This is my problem too. It doesn't bother me to NIP, but I think DH is uncomfortable with other people looking at me (especially when his friends/family visit). I try to be respectful to him and use a cover, but I am also trying to talk to him about it being no big deal. I figure when it gets hot here this summer, he will just have to deal with it because I'm not going to smother LO while he tries to eat!

How's it going? Ok. Getting better I suppose. We've had a long road, LO is 11 weeks tomorrow. We had my LO's tongue tie clipped at 5 1/2weeks. Then had the rest of the tongue tie and a stage 4 lip tie lasered off at 9 weeks. Since it took so long to figure out what went wrong, my supply took a huge hit. I've been working hard to get it back up. I think it's getting better but not totally there yet, we do have to supplement with formula. My LC (IBCLC) is coming today to check on our progress.
Anything that's still a problem? Not making enough milk for my LO! Also, sometimes, mainly in the evenings, she really thrashes about on the boob (we call it raging against the boob). I usually nurse her to sleep and she hasn't wanted me to the past 2 nights...not sure what to make of that!
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? BF'ing has been so hard that every day has felt like a growth spurt to me. I plan to talk to my LC today for tips on getting through the 12 week spurt while supplementing.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? Yes, March 2 (2 weeks!). I pump after every feed right now. I usually don't get much.
Who wants to start this check in every week or so? I think it's a great idea, but I won't be able to start it.

How's it going? It's good. Baby is 8 weeks old and things have really settled in.
Anything that's still a problem? The biggest problem I have right now is that I scratched myself on the nipple yesterday and it hurts when she latches, but that's my own fault.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? The 3 week one was bad. At 6 weeks she was just extra fussy in the evening for a few days.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? Going back in April. I usually pump one side while baby feeds one time in the morning, and then again I pump at night when DH gives a bottle. I can only get about 2 ounces at night and he usually feeds her 3 so the extra pump in the morning makes up for it.

This is a good question for the LC. When you're already supplementing, it's tempting to just up the amount of supplement, when really you need them at the boob to increase your supply. Let me know what she says because we're dealing with the same thing!

How's it going? It's going much better! She's growing!
Anything that's still a problem? Trying to get LO to take a bottle is proving challenging. I wish we would have started earlier but live and learn. Used my hands free bra today for pumping. For the first time, I need to make some adjustments...
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? I barely noticed them. she nursed more, but she likes the boob anyway.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? today was my first day back. I only pumped twice but was able to get over 16 oz. I'm hoping to pump 3 times, when I get to work at 8, at 1130, and around 2. I leave work at 4.
Who wants to start this check in every week or so? If no one wants to, I could try.
How's it going? DS is 9 weeks old today. Good days seem to completely depend on good naps right now.
Anything that's still a problem? Spit up - so much spit up. We have ruled out reflux with our pediatrician and side nursing and frequent burps have limited success. I am sort of just holding out for my supply to regulate a bit.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? The 6 week growth spurt was a doozy with constant eating and terrible naps. I think he may be having another one? He has been hungry every hour forty five minutes to two hours and not napping well. I was engorged all the time last week and this week I feel like I can barely keep up.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? I go back to work in two weeks. I don't pump extra because I am afraid of increasing my supply but I usually get extra when I pump to replace bottles so I have a decent freezer stash. LO started bottles in the hospital for medical reasons so we have kept up with a bottle a day so that he stays used to them.
How's it going? So much better. I am confident now and comfortable
Anything that's still a problem? I still worry about him getting enough. He is a little guy -5% in height and weight, so I weigh him all the time.
I also worry about pumping. My milk doesn't flow for the entire pumping session. It seems like I can get 3-4 letdowns within 20 min though - is that normal?
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? 3 wk was the hardest for us. He is 12 wk today, so Fongers crossed
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? I go back April 1. I pump in the morning for a freezer stock (150 oz so far!) and in the evening for my H to give a bottle.
somebody tag me tomorrow in this thread k? cause I'm too sleepy to answer tonight, but there are several of the things bothering people that I can try to offer some support about.

It's going pretty good. Baby will be 7 weeks on Saturday!
I'm waiting for the 6 week growth spurt to hit... Anxious about that.
I return to work in 4 weeks. I'm very nervous about supply. I've been pumping in the morning and at night. I'm concerned about how much my LO will need bottle wise. Right now my husband gives him 3 oz abd he still seems hungry... Is this normal @amyg?

It's definitely normal from milk not to flow constantly while pumping. It will come in spurts.

Olivia is 5 weeks.
How's it going? Going ok. Thrush is gone and we are almost done with medicine
Anything that's still a problem? I'm still having nipple pain with blanching and burning. It's not thrush, it's not a bad latch, it's not a clogged duct, and it's not mastitis. I might call the ob and see if I can get apno.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? Not sure she has had one yet.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? I'm not returning to work. I get to be a SAHM I do pump one time a day in the am bc it relieves my fullness pain.
Question: should I still be feeding every 2 hours during the day? Or can I let her set the pace now?
mmheartspb I think at five weeks if your baby is gaining weight well and has plenty of wet diapers, you can go to pin demand feeding during the day. Unless, of course, your pediatrician has a reason to ask you to feed her every two hours? Do you wake her at night as well, or just feed her when she wakes up?
With the regular feedings you've been doing it's possible you didn't notice a growth spurt.

pooky08 She was up two lbs from her birth weight at her one month visit. Pediatrician didn't say anything about feedings just asked how many times a day she was eating. If she isn't up every 5-6 hours at night I wake her up.
I would love to let her sleep longer at night for sure.

How's it going? Good!
Anything that's still a problem? She's still resisting the bottle. We're workingon it.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? No problem there.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? I'm back at work. This is my question. I'm only on day 3. I've been pumping twice at work, yielding 12-14 oz per day. Should I expect my yield to drop and add an extra pump? Or just stick to what I'm doing since im pumping plenty and just add a pump if output drops? I have ~50oz in the freezer. LO is not taking much at daycare, ~4-5oz. When she improves I'd expect 9-12oz/day maybe.

rayray007 Met with my LC yesterday. As we all know, breastfeeding is different for everyone, and every baby is different. My supply had been dwindling because of inefficient transfer due to tongue and lip tie. We got those fixed, and I started pumping after EVERY feed. Baby is now feeding more efficiently, she transferred 2.7 ounces yesterday when the LC was here (versus 1 previously). So I asked about the growth spurt, since I'd been supplementing. Basically, she wants me to get away from supplementing, and just keep the baby on the breast more. That will trigger my supply, and since I'm already producing more than I was, that's the best thing for me right now.
She said if baby gets fussy and wants more milk in the evenings and won't stay latched, try a "bait and switch." Give her a bottle, let her take 5 gulps, and then remove the bottle and try the breast again. We tried this last night, and were unsuccessful. We ended up having to give her a bottle (1 oz of breastmilk, it's all I had). Then we gave her 2 oz of formula. However, this is significantly less than what we'd been supplementing her with, and she was satisfied, so I feel like we are headed in the right direction.
Hope this info helps! :-) Keep that baby on the breast as much as possible, especially in the evenings!

DS is 9 weeks old and has only made it 5 hours at night one time....I think it sounds like she is sleeping great

I'll jump in!
How's it going? Good.
Anything that's still a problem? I'm just starting to get to the point where I can actually enjoy breastfeeding because it's so far from what I know/am used to. But every once in awhile, my anxiety will creep in and I'll start to worry if he's getting enough even though he's gaining weight fine and having plenty of output.
Are you getting thru growth spurts ok? Yes, the first couple were really hard emotionally but now that we're almost to 11 weeks it's beginning to feel manageable.
If you are returning to work when? And have you started pumping yet? I'm currently a SAHM but I do pump once a day so that DH can pitch in and give a bottle at night while I sleep. I built up quite the freezer stash early on and it came in handy when I got sick because all I wanted to do was sleep.
Who wants to start this check in every week or so? I'm not on consistently enough otherwise I would.
