Tried out the milkie for the first time today. I've got 2oz from 2 nursing sessions so far. Hopefully I'll be able to introduce a bottle using what I collect without needing to break out the pump. At least until I have more time and energy.
Since yesterday e has been latching for at least 10 minutes every time I try. Yay I just have no clue if she is getting anything or if it's just a comfort thing. So now I'm putting her to the boob pumping and making formula for bottle feeds it's so exhausting.
Any way you can do a weighed feeding to try and assess how much she's getting at the boob? It's great she's latching and, FWIW, Im incredibly impressed with your comittment.
I guess we could buy a scale. My guess is that she doesn't get much because she still drinks her whole bottle.

That's great! Does it work well in cradle? I might get this still.

It does! I was surprised at how comfortable it was and that it didn't get in the way at all especially as it was a bit bigger than I expected. So far I like it and will probably use it for most at home daytime feeds.

L started to latch consistently yesterday (finally!). He still complains at first but begrudgingly tastes enough milk to make him want to latch. Unfortunately something is awry. He nurses for 25-30 minutes but 15, 20 minutes afterwards he wants to nurse again. He does that over and over until I give up (my nipples are made of skin after all) and finish him on expressed milk.
I emailed the LC but this is getting so frustrating! We solve one issue just to uncover another.

Feeding newborns just sucks I have decided. I went in to this thinking I'll try to breast feed but no fear doing the formula thing. At the hospital I fed him breast all the way but the 1st night home all the stress and worry with M came flooding back. M lost a lot of weight and then was slow to put it back on, dropping from 75th% to 2nd% in weight. So I've mostly gone formula, it means my partner can do the night shift and we spilt shift sleep. F is pretty good on the boob but a jealous brother also adds to the drama in boob feeding. AND F is very slow on the bottle ( hour long feeds for a few oz) I know it will get there though. This too shall pass.
Day 2.5 woohoo. L has a much better latch than his brother did. No blistering or bleeding thank goodness. So far he's an epic snacker though. I can't keep him interested past 5-6 min and he wants to be at the breast every 30-40 min. Hoping this gets better once my milk comes in? I'm thinking today will be the day.

Feeding newborns totally sucks otepoti whether bottle or breast. N can take a bottle now but she's slow and messy
rinny it might get better when your milk comes in. It depends on your boobs and on baby. I have small pores which means my flow is slow and both kids have had latch issues/body issues that make them have to work harder to nurse. But I'm an outlier case. I shouldn't worry you.
Do any of you feel your letdown? With DD I always felt it, even when pumping. So far this time I can't feel it. I'm not sure if that means it's not happening?
Thought id stop in and say hey in here. C has some latch things going on and her very first day started cluster feeding almost immediately. Very sore nips for this ftm but working with an LC who will be stopping in again today. Going to go back and read through for some tips you ladies have come up with.

I don't think you need to feel your letdown for it to be happening. I don't feel mine all the time.

I don't think I felt letdown with my first until like 2 months.

I've never felt it with 6 months of BF DD or this time!
My milk came in yesterday. So sore. Feedings have spaced out to about 1.5-2 hours but are still super quick. He's had a number of pee diapers already and I had a fast letdown with my first. I don't know, we'll see.
I used the last of my Christmas money to order some adapters so my million Medela and Ameda bottles will fit on my Spectra. Right now only 4 bottles fit. (The ones that came with my pump kit).

I do some of the time but not all of the time. I figure as long as he's swallowing he's being milk and it's happened.

ellabee I don't feel letdown this time either. Though I nursed DS for so long, it stopped around 4 months I think.
I'm definitely letting down-I can tell how she gulps and also on the pump
pibblemom have the lc help with position and latch. Don't let C slurp you back in if she falls asleep. If she isn't latching well she might not be transferring well-that might be why she wants back on

It's really only been obvious in the past week or so for me. F was born 1/8

I decided to pump today, and all was good (except for DS1 insisting on helping). F is not so thrilled about actually taking the bottle. I think he drank some, but a lot was spilling out of his mouth too so I'm not sure

It should be here today.

Which ones did you buy? I think I'm going to get some too since I have a whole pile of medela bottles from DD.

Guise I'm so frustrated. Baby has been fussing at the breast and pulling off a lot. I was so frustrated earlier that I ended up giving her an ounce of pumped milk and she sucked it down and fell right to sleep. After she woke up she nursed great. Now at another nursing session she is back to fussing and pulling off. H gave her an ounce and she didn't finish it and is still fussing. I can't imagine she is this gassy but I have no idea what her issue it. Anyone experiencing or experienced anything like this? Kelly mom tells me it can be normal behavior. But I'm so paranoid about baby not getting enough and my supply being affected.

Could it be fast letdown? F is pulling off and fussing as I type this. But also won't take a bottle

Sigh. Took a bath tonight and was checking out my boobs in the mirror. Redness has popped up under the nipple on my sore boob. Guess I'll be making an appointment tomorrow to get it checked out.
