I personally have no issues at all with CIO, no matter the age. That makes me sound terrible, but I know it works and in the end we will all be sleeping, so that makes it easy for me (and DH) to tough it out.


I'm pretty sure we're in the middle of 4 month wakefuls (5 month wakefuls, in our case). And he acts like he's starving during the night and will suck down 5-6 ounces each time, which is not like him at all. I bought a bunch of stage 2 foods yesterday and am trying to get into a regular routine of feeding him breakfast, lunch and dinner. This kid can eat. I have no idea if this will help at all, but hopefully he won't need to eat as much at night. I've read that eating too much can hinder sleep. But, so can being really hungry. Where's my manual?

The thought is that they fill up during the day and don't wake starving at night- but that's kind of dumb. We learn to fast at night just like we have to learn to hold our pee at night. That process happens naturally for some babies and not for others. Once they learn to fast, there's less liquid, less pee, and less diaper wake ups (that's the thought.)

So I tried something different tonight. I knew he was so tired after hardly not sleeping last night. I didnt let him nap today. I know sleep begets sleep but I wanted him super tired tonight.

We did our usual bedtime routine. While we were reading our stories I told him Mommy was leaving the room. I offered to leave his pikachu on(It's a canvas painting propped in front of his lamp). Cue the water works. I told him I was still leaving, after cuddles and reassurance. I then told him I would leave the door open if he stayed in bed. If he got out even once I was closing it (I have a childproof thing on the INSIDE so if the door is closed he can't open it). He cried but stayed in bed. I went back to him after 1 minute, told him it was ok and that we were just in the living room. I told him I would be back in 2 minutes (no tears) and did the same thing again at 5 minutes. After that I told him I would be back in 10 minutes. He's asleep. I have no idea how long he'll stay asleep for.

MOTN, do I repeat this process?

@snuff9861. You basically did the Ferber method. Yes you would do it again at the wake up. But with longer intervals each time.

So that lasted an hour. But he stayed in his bed. He's asleep again by the 5 minute check in.

@snuff9861 I was just reading the Ferber book and thinking of you. I'm glad the method is helping a bit so far. FX you make some big progress quickly!

His sleep has been messed up almost a year. 
His 18 month sleep regression happened last year in March while I was in Paris. And I was too busy/tired/pregnant to correct it. Dh started the awful idea of sleeping on his floor while I was gone.
