Tell me what you! Do you work? Stay at home? Love it or hate it? Take it or leave it? If you could something else, no strings attached, be anything you want, what would it be?

I work full-time at a tiny non-profit that works with individuals in poverty. Most days I like what I do. I will most likely need to resign prior to #2's arrival because I don't have any family leave. I'm a social worker and I do love what I do. Maybe I'd like to be a professional cake taster or something like that.
You read my mind! I was thinking we need one of these about occupations/careers.
I am a teacher. I teach high school Spanish and I mostly love it. I have a pretty sweet gig b/c I am also the dept chair and I teach in an "easy" school in that the kids are pretty well behaved. I get to teach upper-level language so people don't really know/care what I actually do...(don't know b/c they literally can't understand ANY of it and don't care because we aren't tested, except I do teach AP and my scores usually are great). I don't like leaving DS sometimes, like when he is sick or when we've all had a supremely crappy night. So sometimes I cry on my 30 min commute, but all is good when I get there. My co-workers are mostly awesome also. ETA: I highly value my 2 months in the summer, especially now that DS is around!
I would be interested in being an artist. Something like textile design or some 3-d art. I was the kid in high school that embroidered beads on my Chuck Taylors and made my own clothes and stuff like that. Or, totally different than art...some sort of immigrant advocate lawyer, if such a thing exists. #thestruggleisreal and there are so many people that need help.
Currently I'm on maternity leave (but will be going back in about 6 weeks to re-qualify). TBH, I commend SAHMs. It is NOT for me. I've been off for just over 6 months now (went off 5 weeks before DD was born due to a crappy pelvis) and am looking forward to going back to work, albeit for a short time.
I'm an internal medicine RN. I have a sweet gig because I work permanent part time. it allows me to choose how much or how little I want. There is ample opportunity to pick up shifts and I can easily move shifts around to get time off.
I SAH and work very part time at an art museum. I really enjoy it there and it gives me a nice balance in my life. I also make my own art. Nothing professional yet, but I'm working on it!
I have a few dream jobs. Voice over actor, puppet maker for the Jim Henson Company, animator, really anything at Laika, and playground architect are some examples.
I'm a registered nurse. I worked for 3 years on a cardiac/surgical/medical floor but for the last 4 years I've been at a Family Practice clinic. My current role is phone triage and anticoagulation management. I like being a nurse - I like helping people and the critical thinking that's involved. It's annoying though because we're currently understaffed so every day is pretty stressful.
If I could do anything, I'd be a SAHM. I actually love homemaking and I think I would be a better mom. I wonder if this is one of those "the grass is always greener" situations though.
I'm a scientist with a PhD, but I stay at home full time with DS now. It can be really challenging and DS is extremely high energy, but I wouldn't change it for anything in the world. I always knew I wanted to stay home with my kids, so I feel very fortunate that I am able to do it.
I work for the Social Security Administration. I make disability determinations. It's not a dream job, but working for the federal government is a pretty good gig. Great benefits. Lots of leave. A really flexible schedule.
If I could do anything I'd love to own a home decor store and stage houses.
I am also a teacher. I teach middle and high school health. I just switched districts, sadly, over the summer. Adored my last school. This district's not bad but I miss my old school a lot. Right now I'm a split position and did the first semester at a middle school teaching seventh grade and now I'm at a high school teaching mix grade classes.
I love my job. Teaching is rewarding as it is, but the kids love my class because we talk about everything they're curious about, like drugs and sex.
I did a few years as a community educator for a substance abuse agency, but classroom teaching is more my speed. Plus the breaks and being done by 2:50 every day are great perks. Plus I get a pension, score!
I'd love to work for an animal shelter or as a veterinarian. I originally applied to both teaching and vet schools and ultimately went into teaching. From a practical stand point though I'd love to be a nurse. I heavily considered going back to school for nursing many times, but we couldn't afford to not have two incomes and my current salary is more than I'd make as a nurse with much better benefits, so I'll teach forever.

Currently I work in a public defenders office as a legal secretary and working of my paralegal degree at the moment. It was after getting this job that made me realize how much I truly love it and decided to go back to school. Potentially, someday when all of the kids are grown I would consider going to law school.
If I could pick any other job, I would love to own a floral shop and dabble in wedding planning. I already have a knack for it and have put together the flowers for several weddings and helped a few friends and family members plan their weddings. It would be my second passion.
Miss Killjoy, I also am in a very urban, inner city district with a high immigration population. It definitely lends itself to being an interesting dynamic over that of rural or suburban education.

Same.
I teach 5th grade English and history. It's my 10th year in my position, and I love what I do, but we have an incredibly challenging group of students this year. I'm counting down until June. I NEED my summer off this year.

My group of seventh graders this year was one of my toughest groups of middle schoolers I've ever dealt with in my five years of middle school experience. Thank goodness I have a pretty good group of high school kids. I'm definitely counting down to spring break right now, then I'll start yearning for summer.
Before being a SAHM, I worked at a small hospital as a phlebotomist and X-ray assistant. I love being a SAHM, but I do miss working sometimes. If I could have any occupation it would be a surgeon in a trauma center. I love learning about the human body.
I am an attorney. I own a very small general practice firm (just me, my partner and two associates). I deal with mostly transactional matters (real estate, business, probate) and don't go to court very often.
I would love to work in accounts payable or receivable somewhere .... preferably a 9 to 5 sort of job. I did that while in law school and I really loved it

Love reading about everyone's jobs! I'm a nurse on a medical/surgical floor. I work 24 hours a week, so that's 2 12 hour overnight shifts which works well for us. I love what I do and the floor I work on so I'll likely stay there for a while. I've worked as a nurse for 7 years and at the hospital in different positions for 12 years.
I have a few dream jobs. Voice over actor, puppet maker for the Jim Henson Company, animator, really anything at Laika, and playground architect are some examples.
Laika is one of MH's dream employers. He wants to do stop-motion animation one day so badly. Total labour of love. You have some pretty sweet dream jobs here, ha.
Hey, if it's a dream job, go big or go home. Lol
I think my husband would want to marry me all over again if I ever got a job at Laika. He may love their movies even more than I do.

I work in Human Resources for a group of country clubs. I enjoy my job but not where I work. I'm a department of one and it's hard to get things done especially with the amount of hand holding some of my employees need. But I have some flexibility in hours and they've been very good not questioning me needing time off for infertility treatments so I can't complain too much.
As for a dream job I would be a doctor, I originally was pre med when I went to college and switched to business because I didn't think I had the determination to go all the way with medicine.
I am the meeting/event planner and executive assistant at a non-profit lobbying organization. I like my job and the benefits are super but ideally I would like to stay home. It just isn't financially feasible quite yet for us.
If I could pick any jobs I would either be Anthony Bourdain or exec a non-profit that offered arts and skills opportunities for low-income children.

I am in Procurement for a non-profit. I am hoping to stay home once I have this baby, but we will see.
Dream job would be anything food related. Food critic, radio show host, TV show. I always wonder if Guy Fieri knows how lucky he is. I would love to travel and eat the best dishes at all of the best places all over the country.

I do love me some DDD. My H and his guy friends go on trips and will pick restaurants based on whether they've been on DDD, man V. Food, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, etc. I'm always sooo jealous and that's my fav way to pick restaurants whenever we go anywhere too.

Whenever we go somewhere new, we always look up restaurants that have been on Food Network. We've had pretty good luck so far. Our only miss was a Caribbean place in Seattle that was just too spicy for us, and we usually don't mind heat.

Wow, there are so many interesting jobs and careers here in this thread! Great idea for a GTKY discussion!!
I'm currently a stay-at-home mom. It was a difficult decision to leave my field, especially considering I am in no way "domestic," but I really love being at home with DD. I don't cook or do a ton of housekeeping (but I do the laundry at least! 😁), but we go on lots of outings (Disney, beach, aquarium, Mommy & Me classes, play dates, the park, etc.). I'm hoping our adventures (and crafts, books, and singing) make up for my lack of being the Martha Stewart/Betty Crocker type (I wish I had talents like that!). Sometimes I feel like a pretty crummy SAHM since I'm not a classic Pinterest type mom.
Before having DD, I worked as a licensed clinical psychologist. It was pretty exhausting mentally and emotionally, but I really loved my work. No two days were ever alike! As far as a dream job, I would love to work in a college counseling center as well as with collegiate sports teams (I was lucky enough to do this for my pre-doctoral internship!). My doctorate is in clinical psychology, but my master's is in sport psychology, so I'd love to utilize my training in sport and performance as well. I obviously wouldn't turn down a job with a professional sports franchise either. 😜
Once I went to a podiatrist that told me he had taken a class in college called "Psychology of Runners" and I wasn't sure if I should believe him or not...so maybe he did? I'm a marathoner (although running is on the back-burner right now) and I'm the first to admit we're a weird bunch.
Pinterest can suck it. (And I am a crafty type, I just think Pinterest spirals out of control!)

I am so impressed with the accomplished ladies on this board! Wowza.
I'm a registered nurse and my most recent unit was burn/trauma at a level one trauma center. I've been home since DS was born 21 months ago and I'll be home with the kids, probably, until DS and #2 are in school. I miss working a lot and try to keep up my skills by reading and taking online classes. I love being home, though, and I feel very grateful I can stay home with DS.
My dream job would probably be a travel book writer. I love to travel and to have someone pay me to go to cool places would be the best! I also would love to be a midwife, but that may actually happen someday!
I'm a surgical technologist working in Neurosurgery. Essentially I set up all the instruments ahead of time and assist during brain and spine surgery. It's a hard job mentally and physically, but I do love it. I work with some of the best surgeons in the country, so I see some cool shit.
Idk what I'd say my dream job is. I have a lot of different interests and hobbies, but couldn't imagine doing those as a job. I'll have to ponder that one!
