I think CA beats VA on that. Berkeley > UVA. But I have a load of UVA alums in the family so I can never say that at home.
I think the case can be made for both states. Virginia has high-caliber state universities (UVA, William & Mary, Va Tech.) and even the schools that are often considered safeties for VA students (JMU, George Mason) are good schools. The UC system is excellent, especially Berkeley, and has a lot of name recognition a la UCLA or UCSB, but I don't know enough about the actual rankings, etc, to comment further.
it cracks me up that you mentioned UC, Santa Barbara in the same breath as UCLA.

Gah - Ahhhh, this girl came from UVA! That's all I hear about. And they may be a good university, but she now works for Cincinnati Children's which is one of the top 3 pediatric hospitals and one of the top pediatric research institutions in the nation. That's nothing to turn your nose up to. I'm not die-hard in loving all things Ohio but goodness gracious, she needs to shut up or go back to UVA. She's seriously been here 6 weeks and everything we do as an institution is backwards or wrong to how UVA does it. I just want to tell her to sit down, shut up and listen. Grrr...
In other news my interviews this morning weren't completely horrible and there is one guy we interviewed who I think would be a great asset to our team and the institution.

I bet in 6 months she'll be a totally different person (let's hope). At 6 weeks she's probably still homesick.
A carries around a notebook and pen (her preferred scribbling tool - lucky us) EVERYWHERE. She recently filled up an entire 1 subject spiral bound one with stickers, scribbles, etc... It's so ratty and coming a part, she's carried it for months. I just went and bought her a new one and I'm so excited to give it to her. It's the little things in life

T decided he absolutely had to go down for his nap without eating lunch first. Was out cold in minutes. Joke's on me, he woke up after less than an hour because he was hungry.
rachydc that is adorable!! Has she been pretty good about keeping the scribbling to the notebook? Or has she occasionally gone for a wall or something?

No walls, yet! We make sure she colors "on paper" but sometimes paper is books, clothes, or her mouth She's usually pretty good!
My H came home on his lunch break and brought me a sandwich and fixed the garage door. Apparently I just knocked it off the track. Phew! Tonight he is going to the Blackhawks game with a subcontractor. I am praying he keeps his word and behaves himself with the drinking. I think I'm going to order Thai and watch pitch perfect with the boys!

Time for another show! I'm rewatching Call the Midwife during MOTN feedings!
I just listed to that on audio last fall! I wonder if I would be into the show. I will give it a try! Thanks.
Omg, watch the show, watch it now. I binged it when I was pregnant. So amazing. The books are good, and you'll recognize some of the stories, but it's good in its own way too.

In my head I was thinking USC but it came out UCSB.

360blessings, I feel your pain! We have a few co-workers who are from Iowa and all you ever hear are blurbs about Iowa!! Ugh!!! Shut up! AND the particular thing she was complaining about was a study that was developed at our institution, by one of our physicians. Girl, bye.
