I'm trying to go through Bill's toys and find the things he doesn't like/doesn't play with to donate and I'm having the hardest time. With the exception of his puzzles, which he has definitely outgrown, I feel like each of the toys can be repurposed... gah! I'm never going to live a clutter free life, am I?
In other news, I had no idea that my kid was strong or dexterous enough to open the fridge and a jar of peanut butter, but he is. Now I just need to figure out how he managed to get peanut butter on the CEILING!
Also, I STILL have not done my taxes... or figured out birthday arrangements for my SO (whose birthday is on the 3rd). If you hear screaming and someone's head banging against the wall, that's just me...

Also: I don't know if we do the language on Wednesdays thing anymore since I haven't seen it in awhile. I don't want to harass @swarly so if anyone knows the answer, I would appreciate your input:
1) When do kids learn to control their volume? I feel like Bill is a really "loud" talker. I know his hearing is normal because we had it tested after his last ear infection, so I'm wondering if this is just a toddler thing or if there's something else going on.
I AM RAGING. I was on the bus *very* quietly chatting to my mom and HH on the phone to see how their day went since HH has been so so sick and some old asshole repeatedly gave me the stink eye. Then he took my picture and started to post it to his Facebook page titled "annoying person on the bus won't shut up". I called him out on that shit and said it was so rude and I was simply quickly checking in with my sick kid. I successfully embarrassed the shit out of him and then he got the side eye from everyone around us. I apologized to the two ladies near me and they kept saying it was NBD and how sorry they were he did that. WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE. ITS A FUCKING BUS NOT A LIBRARY.
@wafflesfriendswork OMG my blood was BOILING as I read that. People taking/sharing my photo without my permission makes me RAGE, and to try to SHAME YOU for that...my god. I'm so glad you called him out.
I'm glad he seems to be feeling better lonegalathome.
This cold I have has made me feel so weird. I've been so out of it all day. I almost drove my car off of the road by accident. Luckily, my kids weren't in it and no other car was nearby for me to hit or piss off. I finally broke down and bought some sudafed. I have zero appetite and now feel nauseous from not eating.
So the magical jeans I found in my closet that fit perfectly? I have now worn a hole in the thigh because my legs are too fat. I want to cry. I now have no more jeans that fit, and this is the 2nd pair I have chub rubbed a hole into.
I may have started taking apart my kitchen cabinets without warning my husband. Hopefully this whole painting thing goes smoothly.
I will be awaiting the results with bated breath. I really want to do ours (we rent but I'm still thinking about doing it) but it seems like such an intimidating job!

@traceyos painting cabinets takes time to make sure it comes out good. You are brave to conquer it with a toddler. I used TSP or trisodium phosphate for mine. I also chose to use an oil based primer and latex high gloss paint. The finish lasted until we eventually were able to replace them (about 5-6 years) with no dings or chips. Ours were white too and had to be scrubbed down often.

yl I just wanted to say that even when I was a string bean teenager, I always wore holes in the thighs of my jeans - not because of chub, but because of the way the crotch was sewn and the way the jeans sat on my hips. It put tension in a weird way on the inner thighs that made it wear out soooo much faster. This story brought to you by my belief that the holes are due to the construction of your jeans, not because your legs are too fat for them. You look beautiful, and shoddy pant construction shouldn't make you feel bad about yourself.

Just now getting caught up. Long day at work. I'm current debating on accepting a shampoo research study I qualified for. It pays $180 to use a shampoo they provide for 3 weeks. It's for a super large company that manufactures all sorts of household items, but you know, I don't want to end up bald. But if I go in the morning to pick up the shampoo, then I can either sleep in a bit or get up and drop kids off at normal time and then have an hour or so to myself for coffee and a bagel or something. I'm leaning towards the hour to myself.
yl - I agree on crappy construction of jeans. Everything seems so cheaply made these days. It's not you, but sorry about your favorite jeans.
Here's an update on the slave chronicles: PDQ My great-great grandmother was naturalized from the British islands to the US islands. My Nana was wise enough to save that document. It has her photo and everything. It lists her parents and husband. Her husband seems to be...the slave owner. Mind. Blown.
@ceci8876 - I hope this doesn't come out wrong, but I'm very fascinated by the lineage of your family. I too only thought of slavery as something that happened because I've never known anyone to have knowledge on their connections with it. So interesting, but so terrible your family lived this.
Second day of state testing done. Now we wait for results and the second round in May. Now my kids think that since they took their math state test, they get movies for the next two months. Uh no. I've got a lot of work to do with them.

I'm totally not caught up- I was actually going to do a language on Wednesday today but I didn't know that lawyers were coming to an IEP meeting and it took the whole day.
But to answer your question- volume can be related to hearing loss as you stated. But when that's ruled out, at this age, the volume they habitually use just becomes their natural speaking volume. If you give cues to "shhh" and whisper, you can help them practice volume modulation. I wouldn't be concerned, albeit as annoying as it can become.
Some people don't even realize that they are speaking very loudly until it gets pointed out. Our day care director's daughter helps out and she screams when she talks. I stopped talking to her it was so bad. I think someone finally told her cause it's gotten much better.
mnj05 don't worry. The stories of slavery are so removed from us. Don't think that's by accident either. That's something I envy about Jewish people. They share their history through generations and make sure that it's not forgotten. Black folks are told that slavery was so long ago and to get over it. I have sooooo many questions. I might need a thread for this!

@ceci8876 - That is interesting. Was there actually a marriage document? I'm fascinated by ancestry stuff and love trying to figure out links and connections.
