Bumblebee nests have to be smothered if you can find it in the ground. You can use a jar.
Well crap. I think they're bumblebees. I wonder if there's a nest in the yard where he was walking when he got stung. We haven't mowed there yet. But I've mostly seen them in the front flying up by the roof. H will have to look around.

All the different bees are out and about now. You can catch me running from any and all of them if they get too close.
My poor kid is traumatized. He's crying because a gnat flew near enough for him to hear the buzz and he thought it was a bee.
DS1 was like this for a few days after he was stung last fall. It'll take a little bit, but he'll be okay. Now DS1 just calls them "naughty bees" and tells them to go away lol
WWYD... I'm to the point where I would like to start making major upgrades to our house. Kitchen and baths are way outdated. Not looking to do this all at once, but want to get started this year. When we moved into the house 3yrs ago we both knew this was the eventual plan. Well, now that it's that time H has decided he would just rather move. He found a house on the market that is literally the same as ours, must be the same builder as the blueprint is near identical, but all updated. Obviously that makes the selling price at a premium to what our house is worth.
WWYD? Buy new or update? I don't think I ever thought this house for be our forever home, so I'm not against moving ... I just didn't think it would be anytime soon.

IIRC you aren't in love with your location bc of school district lines. For that reason I'd probably lean toward moving. If the reno is a 3 year plan, your oldest will be in school by then, and it sucks to do all that work and not get to stay there and enjoy it.

Yes, you do recall correctly. Moving sounds so daunting though. I'm also afraid that the money we have invested in the house, fully fencing the back yard and a semi basement finishing, won't be worth much in increasing the value of our house vs what we paid considering the state of the kitchen and baths. I guess I always thought we would not be able (or at least it wouldn't be smart) to sell before we made the upgrades we knew we needed someday.
bazingaa you could have a realtor come in and give you an idea of what it could sell for with and without the upgrades. And get some quotes for the renovations, and see how the numbers shake out. It's possible a realtor will recommend updating the bathrooms in order to sell, but you'll make different choices if you're renovating to sell as opposed to renovating for yourself to live there.
Unless it's truly a nuisance, don't spray for bees. Even then you can usually have someone come out and relocate a hive.
#savethebees
Depends on what kind. It's the honeybees that need to be saved.
It's honey bees that have a hive as well. Bumblebees are in the ground, not a hive, from my understanding. They may both still pollinate flowers though which is still very important. We don't spray for bees. Hornets on the other hand can GTFO. Wasps as well.

Yes you could renovate very basically just to modernize. New floor and new vanity/ sink may be all you need.
We had a yellow jacket nest by our deck two summers ago. Want to guess how we found it 😫😲 H and I both walked near it, and getting rid of them was suck a pita.

Totally agree on the one bath. That's just lazy on our part. The master bath though is a different story. 😒
We have so many damn bumblebees. I bet we have a nest somewhere. Never looked. They always seem to go away after the flowers around the front of our house go away in late spring.

I would renovate the bath that's easy and leave the master as is. Play up your updates, as I'm sure your realtor will. The house doesn't have to be perfect. You typically recoup some but not all money for renos.

This is good to know. I've never had a lot of flowers bc we had very little sun at our old house. But there's all kinds of stuff blooming here. Hopefully the bee problem will be short-lived for us also.

Yeah, it's mostly this groundcover type stuff that has small purple flowers that bloom in early spring. Once the flowers are gone the bees just go away. It's bad right now... my Easter guests are going to need to sprint into our house! Hopefully it will be the same for you.

Guise, if you have honeybees, please to rehome. All others, do whatever you have to to get rid of them. I'm not kidding that I start running away if I spot one. All those effers stings hurt a lot.
