I think we decided on a first name, Henry. If you are bored go to the name board and vote on a middle name to go with it! I had mentioned 1000 name to my husband over the last month with no luck, guess we just had to find the right one.
I really like Henry, and I love Hank as a nickname.

I have a Henrik! (not the same but close enough lol) Hes pretty cool
jabs, no side eye hear. I picture a cute little girl with curly hair for some reason.
bcmomsaysso, I love Adeline! I was considering that or Adelaide as possibilities. I like Adeline Rose better though.
So assuming this is a girl, which I find out today (EEEE), Rowan Genevieve or Genevieve Rowan? Our last name is 2 syllables, very harsh German name.
Hi! Are you the one that was upset because people kept telling you Rowan in a boys name? I don't remember who said it or on what thread, but my friend lent me a baby name book (2007) version, and Rowan is TOTALLY on the girl's name list. you can tell them to look it up! I'd attach a pic, but that requires energy. I LOVE both options you've got. If it were up to me, I would do Rowan Genevieve, just cus it would be easier for your baby to write when she's in kinder

Yup that was me! It's listed as a girl's name/unisex name in my book and almost every website I've seen. It was also the Number 1 unisex name in 2013, soooo we're using it regardless of individual opinions (like my mothers and MIL, ahem). I think we're both leaning towards Rowan Genevieve too! Thanks!
brassyclarinet, kaeguri, I'm so happy you're sticking to your guns! One of the reasons were team green is because I don't want to deal with the nose wrinkling when I tell people my name options. As for us, my keep batting each other's ideas. He likes John, I hate it. I like Henry, he hates it. I love Caleb, he hates it....
What we've managed to agree on are: Nicholas Michael Ariana Rosa Katerina Rosa
I'm not satisfied 100% though, they feel like compromised names.... It's tough when you're a multicultural couple!

I do love what you've come up with so far! I've always loved the name Nicholas. Such a great classic!!
My cousin, Nicholas, goes by the nickname Cole instead of Nick, which I always loved!
OK...I am looking for your wonderful opinions, too!
DH and I have chosen the name Macsen for this little boy. It's pronounced like max-in.
Since it will inevitably be shortened to Max, I'm trying to figure out how I would spell this nick name. Keeping in mind he could change it when he's older, anyway, he's probably more likely to stick with whatever I teach him.
So... Should I spell it Macs or Max?
Macs makes more sense with the spelling, bit does it look too much like a group of Apple computers?
Mac is not an option unless and until he is old enough to make his own decision. I am an avid It's Always Sunny fan, but I just don't like it at all!

Yeah, I think shortening it and changing the spelling to Max makes more sense. I have a friend named Diondra who goes by "Dee", and I had the instinct to spell it "Di", but that would have been utterly confusing for anyone reading it.
(I actually really like Mac though, but for Mac in Veronica Mars! )

If you want it pronounced Max then I would spell it that way. Max and Macs aren't pronounced the same in my accent.
And for what its worth, I would have never pronounced Macsen as Max-in when I first looked at it. Partly that is accent and partly that it isn't a very familiar name, but be prepared to correct people.

I like all three and I particularly like Katerina Rosa.
My son's name was a compromise name - it was both of our second choice and we didn't like the other's first choice. I can't imagine him being called anything else, even my original first choice. Once you put it on a kid it will grow on you so better to pick something you both like. But I know its hard!

mommakc, We had two names for DD1 when we got to the hospital (we were still fighting over boy names, so really glad we had a girl!). I had to go to recovery and didn't see her really up close and personal until she had been scrubbed and hatted and wrapped like a burrito. So they put her in my arms and I think "oh, hello, Name Choice 1!" And then course I do what you do - I unwrap her and take her hat off and want to count fingers and toes and to look at her - and when I took her hat off my arms flew back and I said "oh no!! You aren't a Name Choice 1! Look at you, Name Choice 2!" She still really fits her name, and I can't imagine calling her by the name I thought she would be. We have Name Choice 1 on the list for this baby, but we had a BAM! moment even before we knew girl when we heard the name we want to use for this kid. So again we will head to the hospital with two names, and see what she "looks like" once she's here.

Thanks for the encouraging words! Who would have thought naming a baby was going to be so hard! I do love a good challenge though, and I just cant wait to finally have our baby in our hands with the name that'll match him or her.
I love both Katerina and Katelina, but a lot of my nieces' names end in "ina" (2 out of 5) so I am not sure I want to add to that trend... but dang it I LOVE the names! As nicknames for both they can be Teri or Lina, which to me sound cute.... Ugh!! Decisions, decisions! I LOVE Ariana too, but Im afraid the name seems more forced in English than Spanish. Plus I cant quite get a cute nickname for it. And Nicholas, this is one name my H and I both agree on... Now the middle name, not so sure. Thank you for the feedback ladies, It really helps

Very interesting! My I ask what kind of accent you have? And how your pronunciation of Macs differs from Max? Only curious, since I immediately associate Macs with the Apple computers, or a plural form of "Mac" in general.
Also, curious as to how you naturally pronounced Macsen? We were considering changing the spelling to the more American Maxson (which is a relatively common surname in our area,) but I am a definite "word/name nerd" and enjoy the true Welsh etymology and history. My father's side of the family is straight Welsh, and I love giving a nod to my ancestry with the correct as well.
I've received some feedback on a name forum that some may think Macsen is a "unique" spelling of the popular Mason. While it bothers me a little, it's not a deal breaker. I have a name that is easily pronounced, but very rarely spelled correctly. I have never minded the constant corrections and the necessity to spell it out virtually every day (My name is Kerri)
I'm way behind on this post but I thought I'd try and get your ladies' opinions. We're trying to name girl #3. DD1 is Ryann Elizabeth and DD2 is Elsie Joann. Our current list...
Lila Rae Piper Ann Thea Loraine Arden Dellus Audra Loraine
Middle names are family names. Please tell me your thoughts. My name choices aren't always the most popular but I still like hearing what other people have to say about them.

I love Thea. Piper Ann sounds like Pepperann. Not a very popular TV show but, hey.
So I'm wondering if y'all had BAM! That's the perfect name! moments or if something just grew on you? We have a few we're kicking around but I don't love any of them. Just wondering how people came up with their choices.
I've never had a BAM I know that is the name we should use with any of ours. My husband picked Elsie for our second, and even in the first few days after she was born it was awkward for me to say it. I didn't hate the name and couldn't come up with anything we agreed on other than that so we went with it. Now I love it.

Thea is my favorite, I just can't get DH on board. And I think if we happen to go with Piper, I'm going to have to pick a different middle name. I remember that show now that you mention it.
Our last name is *****back. Hubs is convinced of "Jack" if it's a boy. He thinks it works with our last name instead of against it. Jack *****back. Weird, right?

I'm working on a middle name, and it kind of determines our first name, please help. DH and I were both totally sold on Claire as a first name. DD1 is named Alice, and we felt like they went together. But here's the sticking point- DH wants to use his mother's and grandmother's middle name, Ann. I hate the way that looks and sounds. Claire Ann is terrible. I don't even like "Ann" on its own, I would want to change it to "Anne", which just looks more finished in my brain. But, like I said, I hate that combination of names. So we're thinking about going with Charlotte instead, as a first name.
My family has a tradition of naming the first girl with the middle name "Elizabeth" and we followed that tradition with DD1. I feel like a total ass telling DH that I don't want to use his family's female middle name for DD2. I kinda mentioned my feelings in a roundabout way, and he said "oh, well... we don't have to use it" but I could tell it bothered him. I got my way with #1 ( and I'm feeling like I should just take one for the family here and give him the MN for #2. It just bums me out that we won't use the name we both prefer, Claire, if we stick with Ann.
Also, am I out of line for suggesting something like, "Ok, we can use Ann, but I want it to be spelled Anne instead"? I am kind of tone deaf when it comes to how these things might sound to others, so I appreciate you guys telling me if that would be out of line. I will definitely listen to what you have to say regarding this particular point.

I'm very much of the opinion that your childrens' names are totally your choice, if you don't like Ann, then I wouldn't use it and talk it thru with DH so he feels ok; is there another name you could use as a nod to his family without it having to be Ann? If you do decide to use a family name, than that's a great "bonus" for whichever side you're using it from, but it shouldn't be expected or necessary, in my opinion. I would hate to always think about the name I truly wanted but didn't use for my kid (but again that's just me; I tend to be pretty hard-line when it comes to what I like and don't like!lol)
Claire and Charlotte are both lovely; I do agree with you that for some reason Charlotte Ann/Anne sounds better to the ear tho.

How many syllables is your last name? Just to my ear, if it's two syllables it'll sound "rhyme-y", like "Jack Fablack", if that makes any sense!
First, let me preface this post by saying that DH and I love what I'm assuming most people woudl consider to be "odd" names. DH is Norwegian and Italian, I am Scottish on my mother's side and Russian Jewish on my father's, and we try to pull from our varied backgrounds for names that aren't necessarily family names but are a nod to our different cultures. With DS, he has a family 1st name from my father's side, then an Italian middle name, and any of these names we think would "sound" good with DS'
For girls, we have two names picked out that are neck-and-neck for us; we can't decide 100% on which we would prefer; they're celtic or norse first names with Jewish middle:
Vika Zahava Anya Zahava
For boys, we prefer old norse first names, but unlike with DS, I can't fix on a first name I'm in love with 100% (these are at like the 95% level for me) and the middle name is my Granny's maiden name, which I adore:
Ragnar MacGregor Vladimir MacGregor Siggi MacGregor (honestly, Siggi would be my fave nickname if we had another boy, but the full-length name of Sigurd is not a fave of mine at all)
Any thoughts? Again, I know these names aren't going to be to the style/taste of many, but I'd appreciate any thoughts about which names sound good together, your favourite of the group:)

It IS 2 syllables! Totally too rhymey in my opinion, but that's what he likes about it. Hopefully it's a girl!

laurelita42, IMO my argument to H is the kid is already getting his family's last name. It is only fair to contribute names from both sides. 2:1 isn't exactly fair if you want to use that argument.
