I just was e-mailed a non-automated e-mail and the person spelled my name wrong. I wouldn't think anything of it if it wasn't like this (fake name, but similar point):
To: sofia.doe@janedoe.com
Dear Sophia,
Blah blah blah. I'm a fucking moron.
Love,
Moron
One of the biggest offenders of this? My own SIL.
ETA: She did start spelling it correctly more often than not sometime in recent history, and I really, really appreciate that.
My daughter's name is Vivienne. We live about 3-4 hours away from most of our family and don't see them frequently. She was nearly 7 mos old at her first Thanksgiving and we were visiting for the first time in several months. My FIL always gives a lengthy prayer before we dine and this year was no exception. I am no longer religious, so I just bow my head and wait for it to be done, this time, holding V in my arms and swaying a bit. He is praying, and praying, thanks for all the blessing, watch over our troops, be with whichever cousin had whatever issue and then he gives thanks for our special, long-awaited blessing of a new family member, little Vanessa.
It was like a record screech as a gasp goes up around the room and everyone looks up at me and I try not to laugh while MIL elbows FIL sharply in the ribs and hisses loudly, "It's Vivienne."
The following year, my BIL & SIL had a baby girl and for Father's Day they gave FIL a picture of his newest grand-daughter with a frame that said "Carys" at the top and "I am not Vanessa" at the bottom.
