erbear they should let you drink water during the 3 hour which helps tremendously. And bring snacks to have right after it's over.
I hope so. I just know that if I spike up, I spike back down really hard. This is why I don't eat super sugary foods or "bad carbs" in the first place!

I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. That double strength glucose drink was probably one of the most disgusting things I have ever have ever consumed. Trying the lime flavor was an error in judgement. I'm just glad they did a finger prick blood draw each time instead of going for the arm - I probably would have passed out.
I just found out that I failed my second one hour test by ONE FLIPPING POINT!!!!!!! I'll be kicking off my spring break on Friday with the three hour fasting test. Boooooooo.

I go for my appointment on Friday which was scheduled to have been my 1 hour test, but I found out recently that I can't drink the drink (sugar spikes are a migraine trigger.. not going there right now!) so my doctor said she'll set me up to get equipment to test at home. Anyone been down this road? I tried to read through the whole thread in search. Im curious if anyone else skipped out on the glucose load and went an alternate route.

Just finished my 3 hour...good God I hope I never have to experience that again! I should find out the results tomorrow hopefully. My Dr. tried to make me feel better by telling me that she had to do the 3 hour also with both of her kids and she passed just fine. She said she failed her 1 hour with higher numbers than I had as well. They 3 hour test for over 130 but everything I read online said 140 and I had a 140 boo

How long did it take for you ladies to get word back? My midwife's office said they'd let me know either way, but last time (with ds) they didn't call cause I passed and they just told me at my next appointment I was good. I did the test on March 11th and haven't heard anything yet. Just wondering if I should be concerned or just assume that I passed...?
Passed the 1 hour! Not sure what my numbers were but I am just excited I passed! However my platelet count was low so I need to up my leafy greens and start taking 12 alfalfa capsules/day or 4Tbl sp of sesame oil/day. Fun fun!
I'm so glad this thread is here! I'm not a reg usually but I'd live to hear more from others who've failed the 3 hour and are in the diet (like me). Is there any interest in weekly check ins?
I failed the 1 hour and the 3 hour by only a little bit and have been on the diet for 2 weeks. I only just met with the endocrinologist this week and got my monitor. It actually hasn't been too bad but I went totally cold turkey on sweets until I got the monitor and I was happy to day to test after half a candy bar and found my levels will fine. So I'm looking forward to a more moderate approach that is safe for baby.
Just got the call that all of my values for the three-hour were normal. YEAHHHHHHH! I have to go pick up DH's birthday cake later today, so that could have been REAL depressing. Fingers crossed for anyone who is still playing the waiting game! It's been stressful.
My Dr. Is requesting that I take the 3 hour right away, so I took the day off of work tomorrow to get through it.
I saw someone mention that they did a special diet a few days before the test. I don't have the luxury of time to do that now since I have to get it done stat. How many hours did you fast before the test? Did any of you eat anything specific the night before hoping that it would not negatively affect your results?
Thanks for any suggestions, I'm really quite terrified for my results as diabetes runs in my family.

clairencub, Some offices make you do a 12 hour fast before the test. My office just told me no food or water after midnight. I ate a normal dinner of protein and veggies. I did not eat dessert. I did pass the 3hr.
Finally heard back today that I passed the three hour GTT. Phew! That was the single most miserable lab test of my life (me = severely blood phobic), so I'm glad they won't add even more poking to my daily regimen. I will have a super sugary and creamy DD decaf to celebrate!!
clairencub, the diet they had me on was high carb, so I wouldn't worry so much about that. I ate a bunch of "bad" stuff in the days prior to hit the carb numbers they wanted, and still passed. I had to fast for 12 hours prior. Good luck!
I have my 3 hour tomorrow and I feel like part of me is already in mourning if I fail. Thankfully it won't make me risk out of my midwife practice like I feared but I just want to get through the rest of this pregnancy without that looming over me. My midwife said to fast 8 hours, but it will end up being closer to 12 since I don't really eat after dinner.
wormgerm, good luck tomorrow! I ended up fasting for 12 hrs, too, from 8 pm to 8 am. One of the other ladies gave a great tip to bring a snack or sandwich with you so you can eat it right after.
In other news, found out yday that I passed the 3 hr GTT!
I had 2 pieces of bacon and 2 eggs with tobasco. Failed by 2 points. That said I'm terrified to do the 3 hour. I started feeling nauseated and a headache toward the end of the 1 hour. Double the sugar and on an empty stomach for hours tomorrow. Woof. Best of luck to you!
I passed my two hour!!!!! I am so beyond relieved, for me it wasn't even the diet that worried me. It was the idea of pricking my fingers...while needles don't scare me they totally gross me out if I see them.

Right there with you! I go in at 8 am. I am not looking forward to it and yes, I'm already mourning the lose of my ice cream too. Fingers crossed for you tomorrow!
Pretty sure I've already failed the 3 hour. My fasting level was 116, which she said was on the boarder and had to make a call. My 1 hour level is supposed to be below 150 and I don't forsee that happening.

@demanda88 if I were to go back in time (and for any future 1 hr tests) I would just drink a ton of water and have some plain almonds more than an hour before the test but no other food.

My favorite part of today was pulling up to the lab while Pour Some Sugar On Me was playing. I was laugh-crying that it was a sign from the baby. Anyway, the first hour took forever but the last hour flew by. Fingers crossed for everyone testing today.
Thanks to all the ladies that gave some great advice. I just got my 2nd draw of 4, it stinks because they can't find a good vein in either arm so they've been drawing from my left hand. Good luck to all those embarking on the test today as well!

Oh I'm sorry! That sucks! I have horrible veins and the nurse was training so she hit a tendon! Hopefully the rest of your draws go better!
